Capcom confirmed unauthorized access to customer information linked to CAPCOM ID in October 2026. The widely reported figure of 11,774,247 refers to affected records—mostly email addresses and account metadata—not proof that every account was taken over. Capcom separately reported 196 accounts whose passwords were changed without authorization, while saying customer-set passwords had not been confirmed compromised and that credit-card data was not included. Capcom’s October 22, 2026 notice is the controlling source.

What happened in the Capcom ID breach?

Capcom determined that a third party gained unauthorized access to certain customer information associated with CAPCOM ID, the unified account used for Capcom web services and some online games. The company detected suspicious activity and confirmed unauthorized access on October 19, 2026. It notified the Osaka Prefectural Police and Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission on October 21, then published its customer notice on October 22.

“Capcom has determined that certain customer information associated with CAPCOM ID, an online membership account service operated by the company, was subject to unauthorized access by a third party.”

Capcom said the incident did not prevent players from signing in to or playing games, and the services using CAPCOM ID remained available.

Is the 11.7 million figure real, and what does it count?

Yes, Capcom reported 11,774,247 affected records. That number counts records in the information accessed; it does not mean 11,774,247 people were confirmed to have lost control of their accounts.

Scope Capcom reported Count Information involved What the number does—and does not—show
Main affected set 11,774,247 records Email address, account-creation time, last-login time, login count and the client IP used at last login Shows exposure of account information and activity metadata; it is not a count of confirmed takeovers.
Additional profile fields 43 records Date of birth, gender, country or region and nickname A smaller subset contained these extra personal fields.
Unauthorized password changes 196 accounts Login passwords changed without authorization These accounts required intervention; Capcom reset the affected passwords.

Capcom has not published a country-by-country breakdown of the records. The notice therefore does not establish how many affected customers live in any particular region.

Were CAPCOM ID accounts actually taken over?

Capcom confirmed unauthorized password changes on 196 accounts, but it did not say that all affected records represented account takeover. It also said it had not confirmed compromise of passwords originally set by customers. The safest reading is that unauthorized access to information is confirmed, while the scale of successful account control is not known beyond the 196 password-change cases.

A password-change notification, an unexpected sign-in alert or an inability to log in should be treated as a possible account-security event. Do not infer that an account is safe solely because it was not among the cases Capcom publicly described.

Did Capcom leak passwords or credit-card details?

Capcom did not confirm that customer-set passwords were compromised, and it said credit-card information was not among the affected information. That does not eliminate risk: exposed email addresses and login-related metadata can support convincing impersonation attempts, password-reset scams and credential-testing against other services.

Because the notice does not describe the intruder’s method or provide a forensic account of every accessed system, readers should not assume that unconfirmed data was either stolen or safe. The confirmed facts are limited to the fields and cases Capcom listed.

What should Capcom ID users do now?

  1. Be skeptical of unexpected messages. Capcom warned that exposed email addresses could be used in fraudulent emails or other communications impersonating Capcom or related parties. Avoid links and attachments in unsolicited messages, even when they use familiar logos or urgent language.
  2. Sign in through a trusted route. Open the Capcom website or game launcher from a bookmark or a manually entered address rather than a message link. Check the domain and certificate before entering credentials.
  3. Replace reused passwords elsewhere. If the password used for CAPCOM ID was also used on another service, change it there immediately and make each account’s password unique. Capcom’s statement about unconfirmed original passwords is not a reason to keep a reused credential.
  4. Use stronger sign-in protection when offered. Turn on multifactor authentication or a passkey if the relevant Capcom service presents that option. Capcom’s notice does not confirm support for FIDO2 security keys specifically, so verify compatibility in the account’s current security settings.
  5. Review account activity and recovery details. Look for unfamiliar email, password, profile or login changes. Secure the email account tied to CAPCOM ID as well, since control of that mailbox can enable password resets.
  6. Contact Capcom through an official regional support channel. Use a support address reached from Capcom’s own site, not contact details supplied in a suspicious message. Ask for help if you cannot sign in or see an unauthorized change.

What remains unknown about the breach?

  • Capcom has not disclosed the attack method or the identity of the third party.
  • There is no public list identifying individual affected customers.
  • The notice does not provide a geographic breakdown of the 11,774,247 records.
  • Capcom has not reported a confirmed compromise of customer-set passwords beyond the unauthorized changes it identified.
  • No credit-card information was included in the affected information Capcom described.

Those limits matter when interpreting headlines. “Affected records” is a data-exposure measure; “passwords changed” is a narrower account-security measure. Neither term, by itself, proves that every listed account was taken over.

Frequently Asked Questions

Could a fake Capcom email be dangerous if my password was never changed?

Yes. An exposed email address, combined with login-related details, can make an impersonation message look credible even when there is no confirmed password compromise. Treat unexpected reset notices, prize offers and account warnings as untrusted until you verify them through a manually opened Capcom page.

What are the clearest signs that a message is phishing?

Urgency, requests for a password or payment, a sender address that does not match the claimed organization, mismatched link destinations and unexpected attachments are warning signs. On a phone, press and hold a link to inspect its destination rather than opening it.

Does Capcom say which countries were affected?

No. Capcom’s notice gives aggregate counts but no country-by-country or regional breakdown, so a reader cannot determine exposure from nationality alone.

How can I find out whether my own account was one of the affected cases?

Capcom has not published an individual lookup list. Sign in through an official route to check for unexpected changes, and contact Capcom’s regional support team if you cannot access the account or need case-specific confirmation.
