What causes a cclgui.dll error
The error may appear as one of these Windows loader messages:

- “The program can’t start because cclgui.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cclgui.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting cclgui.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading cclgui.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “cclgui.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The file ‘cclgui.dll’ could not be loaded or is corrupt.”
These messages do not all mean the same thing. The file may genuinely be absent, Windows Security may have quarantined it, or cclgui.dll may be present while one of its dependencies is missing.
The most common triggers are an interrupted update, a failed reinstall, antivirus detection, disk cleanup, moving the application folder, mixed files from different releases, or damage to a Windows runtime or graphics dependency.

A crash report that merely names cclgui.dll is different from a startup error. A faulting module report does not prove that the DLL is missing or defective.
1. Identify the PreSonus application first
Before changing Windows files, identify which program displays the error.
Check the title bar and message around the error. If it mentions Studio One, repair Studio One. If it mentions Capture, repair Capture 2. Hardware utilities and AudioBox-related software may also use components from the same framework.

- Press Windows key + S.
- Search for the affected PreSonus product.
- Right-click it and select Open file location.
- Right-click the shortcut and select Open file location again if it points to a shortcut.
- Look in that application directory for
cclgui.dll.
A Studio One installation may contain the file beside other CCL components, such as cclsystem.dll, ccltext.dll, cclnet.dll, and cclsecurity.dll. The exact folder varies by product and installation choice.
Do not treat a missing file in System32 as evidence of a Windows problem. cclgui.dll is expected to remain in the PreSonus application directory. Windows commonly searches an application’s own directory for its private DLLs before searching other locations, as described in Microsoft’s DLL search order documentation.
2. Repair or reinstall the affected PreSonus application
This is the safest and most likely fix.
For Studio One, use the installer associated with your registered PreSonus software:
- Close Studio One and any related PreSonus applications.
- Sign in to your PreSonus software account.
- Open your registered products or software list.
- Download the Windows installer for the affected product.
- When the download finishes, right-click the installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup prompts and allow the installer to replace the existing installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the PreSonus application from its normal shortcut.
The installer should restore the correct copy of cclgui.dll and the other files that must match it. It also avoids mixing a DLL from one product or release with executables from another.
Test the result by opening the application normally. If it starts without the loader message, the repair worked. If the same error returns immediately, continue with the quarantine check before performing another reinstall.
Perform a clean reinstall only when repair fails
If the installer cannot replace the existing installation, remove the application and install it again:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Find the affected PreSonus product.
- Select the three-dot menu or the product entry.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the official installer as administrator.
- Restart again and test the application.
You can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the PreSonus product, and choose Uninstall. Some products provide their own uninstaller in the installation folder.

A clean reset may leave configuration data under C:ProgramDataPreSonus or %AppData%PreSonus. Back up presets, templates, and other personal settings before removing residual folders. Delete them only when the normal reinstall does not resolve the problem and you are prepared to rebuild the application configuration.

Security software can remove an application DLL even when the original installation was legitimate.
In Windows Security:
- Press Windows key + S.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for the PreSonus installation folder or
cclgui.dll. - Open a matching detection to inspect its path and action.
Restore the file only if you have verified that it came from the genuine PreSonus installation and the detection is not valid. Do not blindly allow or restore a DLL simply because its name matches the error.
After reviewing the detection, repair or reinstall the PreSonus application again. If antivirus software repeatedly quarantines the restored file, leave it quarantined, run a complete security scan, and contact PreSonus support or your security vendor. A recurring quarantine can indicate a false positive, a damaged installer, or another process modifying the application.
4. Check whether the DLL is present but cannot load
A “specified module could not be found” message can mean that Windows found cclgui.dll but could not find a dependency required by it.
First check the application directory:
- Open the PreSonus installation folder.
- Confirm whether
cclgui.dllis present. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Use the Digital Signatures or Details tab when available to review its publisher and file information.
- Compare the file’s location with the application that produced the error.
Do not use an arbitrary DLL utility to replace the file. If it exists but fails to load, install pending Windows updates, repair the affected PreSonus application, and check the required runtime.
Repair the Visual C++ runtime
A PreSonus program may depend on Microsoft runtime libraries. The correct architecture must match the application:
- Use x64 for a 64-bit application.
- Use x86 for a 32-bit application, even on 64-bit Windows.
- When the application architecture is uncertain, the official x86 and x64 packages can both be installed.
Download the supported Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages from Microsoft, then:
- Run the installer for the required architecture.
- Choose Repair if that option appears.
- If repair is unavailable, complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the PreSonus application again.
Visual C++ is a possible dependency issue, not a proven universal cause of cclgui.dll errors. If the error persists, reinstall the PreSonus product so its application files and dependencies are restored together.

5. Update Windows and repair protected components
Run Windows Update before using repair commands:
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows, even if Windows does not require an immediate restart.
- Test the PreSonus application.
If the message suggests broader Windows corruption, open an elevated Command Prompt:

- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. These commands repair protected Windows components; they do not normally restore a missing private PreSonus DLL. Use them when Windows dependencies or system corruption are also suspected, not as a replacement for reinstalling the application.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting tedious. 6. Correct architecture and mixed installations
A 32-bit application needs compatible 32-bit components, while a 64-bit application needs compatible 64-bit components. Installing a DLL from another architecture may produce a bad-image error rather than fixing the original problem.
Check the application’s executable:
- Open the PreSonus installation folder.
- Right-click the main executable.
- Select Properties and open Details.
- Check the product information available there.
- If the architecture is not clear, use the installer supplied for the installed product rather than guessing.
Do not copy cclgui.dll from another Studio One release, another PreSonus product, another computer, or a different installation directory. A matching executable, framework library, runtime, and dependency set is more important than obtaining a file with the same name.
7. Update graphics and audio drivers when the error is a crash
If PreSonus starts but crashes and the crash report names cclgui.dll, update the graphics and audio drivers rather than assuming the DLL is corrupt.
For Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Repeat under Sound, video and game controllers for the relevant audio device.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Install drivers from the hardware manufacturer when Device Manager finds nothing newer. Also update Studio One or the affected PreSonus application, temporarily disable recently added plug-ins, and follow PreSonus’s documented preference-reset procedure if the crash began after a configuration change.
Manually hunting through several driver packages can be slow and makes it easy to install the wrong branch. What not to do
Do not download cclgui.dll separately
Random DLL download sites sites can provide malware, an altered file, the wrong architecture, or a version that does not match the PreSonus executable. Even a clean file may not fix a missing dependency, damaged installation, or recurring quarantine.
Use the official PreSonus installer obtained through the registered software account or the product’s legitimate installation media. No standalone cclgui.dll download is needed for normal recovery.
Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
cclgui.dll is an application-private component. Copying it into a Windows system directory can create version conflicts and does not repair the application’s dependency chain.
Do not run regsvr32 on it
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide the registration entry points used by COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that cclgui.dll is a registerable COM DLL, so commands such as these are not a general repair:

Do not use registry cleaners or DLL fixers
Registry cleaning does not restore the correct PreSonus installation. It can remove unrelated configuration data and make diagnosis harder.

When to use System Restore or contact support
Use System Restore only when the failure clearly began after a system change and a suitable restore point exists:
- Press Windows key + S.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it and select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point created before the failure.
- Review affected programs before confirming.
System Restore should not replace a normal PreSonus reinstall.
Contact PreSonus support if the installer completes but the error returns, the application crashes repeatedly, or antivirus repeatedly removes the file. Include:
- The exact error text
- The full path shown in the message
- The PreSonus product and version
- Your Windows version
- Whether
cclgui.dllexists - Any Windows Security detection
- The relevant Event Viewer entry or crash report
- Whether the problem began after an update, reinstall, restore, cleanup, or folder move
FAQ
Is cclgui.dll a Windows file?
No. Available evidence identifies it as a PreSonus application component from the CCL framework. It should not normally be installed in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Which program uses cclgui.dll?
Public installation inventories associate it with PreSonus Studio One, Capture 2, and some PreSonus hardware/software packages. Identify the product named in the error before repairing anything.
Should I register cclgui.dll?
Usually no. It is an application-private DLL, not a DLL known to require COM registration.
Why does Windows say the specified module is missing when the file exists?

Normally no. SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. The correct way to restore this third-party application DLL is to repair or reinstall the PreSonus product.
What if the error occurs in Wine?
Windows repair steps may not apply under Wine or another compatibility layer. Compatibility-layer reports can involve missing Windows graphics components or unsupported behavior, so troubleshoot that environment separately and provide its diagnostic output to the relevant project or PreSonus support.
