cdrtxt.dll is a Corel file, not a normal Windows system DLL. If cdrtxt.dll is missing, CorelDRAW or another Corel Graphics Suite component usually needs its installation repaired rather than a DLL copied from the internet.
Before changing anything, note:
- Which program shows the error: CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, or another Corel application
- The complete error message and file path
- Whether the problem began after an update, reinstall, antivirus alert, cleanup, or crash
- Whether you use a 32-bit or 64-bit Corel release
- Whether the error affects every Windows account or only one
The safest repair path is to repair the exact Corel product named in the error.

What is cdrtxt.dll?
cdrtxt.dll is described as the Corel Text Manager DLL. Its internal name is CdrTxt, and it belongs to Corel Common Framework software developed by Corel Corporation.
It is an application DLL used by Corel software. It is not a Windows component, and there is no reliable evidence that it ships with Windows 10 or Windows 11.

The file normally belongs inside the Corel installation directory, beside the program files that load it. It should not normally be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
The correct directory varies by Corel release and installation type. Older versions can also use different Corel text-component filenames. Do not substitute a similarly named file from another release.
What the error means
You may see messages such as:
cdrtxt.dll was not foundcdrtxt.dll could not be locatedFailed to load cdrtxt.dllThe application has failed to start because cdrtxt.dll was not foundThe file cdrtxt.dll is missing or corruptcdrtxt.dll is not designed to run on Windows
These messages usually mean that Windows could not load the copy required by the Corel application. Common causes include:
- A damaged or incomplete Corel installation
- An update that did not finish correctly
- Antivirus quarantine
- Manual deletion or cleanup software
- A mismatched Corel version or architecture
- A missing dependency next to the DLL
- Storage or broader Windows corruption
The “not designed to run on Windows” wording is a generic loader message. It does not mean that cdrtxt.dll belongs to Windows.
Fix 1: Repair the Corel installation
Repair is the best first step because it restores the complete, matching set of Corel files.
- Close CorelDRAW and every other Corel application.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
text
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Find the installed CorelDRAW Graphics Suite or other Corel product.
- Select it and choose Change, Modify, or double-click the entry.
- In the Corel installer, select Repair.
- Follow the prompts to complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the same Corel application again.
The wording differs between Corel releases, but the option should be part of the installed-program maintenance process.
How to tell whether Repair worked
Repair worked if the application opens without the cdrtxt.dll message and its normal tools and text features load correctly.

- Run Repair again while signed in with an administrator account.
- Check whether the installer reports that it could not access source files.
- Repair the exact Corel version named in the error path.
- Continue with the antivirus and version checks below.
Do not repair one Corel release and then copy files into another installed release.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
An antivirus product can quarantine a Corel DLL after an update or after detecting suspicious behavior from the application. Do not restore a file solely because its filename matches.
To check Microsoft Defender:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand a detection related to Corel or
cdrtxt.dll. - Verify that the detection refers to the Corel installation and not an unrelated file.
If you are certain the quarantined item is an authentic Corel installation file, use Actions and then Restore only when Windows Security provides that option. If the alert identifies malware, leave it quarantined and run a full scan.
After restoring a verified file, run Corel Repair. Restoring one DLL may not restore related files or correct a damaged installation. Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat makes it active again, so uncertainty should be resolved before restoring anything.
Fix 3: Reinstall the exact Corel product
Use a reinstall when Repair is unavailable, stops with an error, or cannot restore the file.
First identify the installed product:
- Open Corel if it still starts.
- Select Help.
- Choose About.
- Record the product name and release information.
If Corel will not start, check the name and version in Apps and features or Programs and Features.
Then:
- Back up personal Corel documents and custom templates.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings → Apps → Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Locate the Corel product.
- Choose Uninstall only if Repair cannot be used.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from Corel’s official support or account portal.
- Install the same product edition and, where possible, the same update level.
- Restart Windows again.
- Test Corel before adding extensions or changing security exclusions.
Do not install a newer or older DLL by itself. A newer cdrtxt.dll may require other files that an older Corel release does not have.
Fix 4: Check for a 32-bit or 64-bit mismatch
A DLL must match the application and its dependencies. A 32-bit Corel program cannot use an arbitrary 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit program cannot use an arbitrary 32-bit replacement.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → About.
- Look at System type.
To check a running Corel executable:
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select the Details tab.
- Find the Corel process.
- Check its properties or the installation directory.
Do not assume that every Corel release uses the same architecture. The architecture and location can vary between editions and versions. The installer for the exact product is the reliable way to obtain the matching copy.
Fix 5: Confirm that the file path belongs to Corel
If the error displays a path, read it carefully. A legitimate path should lead into the Corel installation directory, not a temporary folder, a browser download directory, or an unrelated program folder.
You can inspect the location without copying anything:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the Corel installation directory.
- Search that folder for
cdrtxt.dll. - If the file exists, right-click it and select Properties.
- Review the Digital Signatures and Details tabs when available.
If the file exists but Corel still cannot load it, the file may be corrupt, incompatible, blocked, or dependent on another missing component. Repair the complete suite rather than replacing only that file.

If the error affects only one Windows account, the installation may be intact and the problem may be in that account’s Corel preferences.
Corel applications can reset their workspace during startup:
- Close all Corel programs.
- Press and hold F8.
- While holding it, launch the affected Corel application.
- Confirm the reset when prompted.
This resets preferences and workspace customizations. It does not replace cdrtxt.dll, so use it only when the file exists and other Windows accounts can open the program.
If resetting the workspace does not help, return to Corel Repair.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when other symptoms exist
SFC and DISM repair Windows components. They do not download or reconstruct a proprietary Corel DLL, so they are not the primary fix for an isolated cdrtxt.dll error.
Use them when other applications also fail, Windows reports damaged components, or the problem began with broader system corruption.

If DISM or SFC reports that it could not complete the repair, restart Windows and repeat the commands from an elevated terminal. Persistent errors indicate a Windows servicing or storage problem, not proof that the Corel DLL itself is a Windows file.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhen manually checking Windows components, hunting through repair logs and repeating SFC/DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems, while its repair functions require the full version; reinstalling Corel remains the definitive fix for a missing Corel DLL.
Fix 8: Install pending Windows updates
Windows Update is not a source for cdrtxt.dll, but pending updates can matter when the computer has broader servicing or compatibility problems.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Run Corel Repair after Windows finishes updating.
If the error began immediately after a major system change and Corel Repair cannot run, System Restore may help:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
text
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore changes programs, drivers, system files, and settings but is designed to preserve personal files.
Fix 9: Update or reinstall drivers only for a driver-related failure
A graphics driver update can affect Corel startup, but it is not a normal source of cdrtxt.dll. Use Device Manager only when the failure began with display problems, graphics crashes, or a device error.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Corel.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, open the device’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver when available. For a clean reinstall, obtain the driver from the computer or graphics-device manufacturer.
Finding the correct driver manually can mean checking hardware IDs, Windows versions, and several driver packages. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers, while driver installation through its full version is optional; it does not replace repairing or reinstalling Corel when cdrtxt.dll is the missing component.
Do not download cdrtxt.dll from a random DLL site
A standalone DLL download is a poor fix because it can be:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The wrong Corel release
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Modified or infected
- Missing required companion files
- Incompatible with the installed Corel update
- Placed in a directory Corel does not use
Never copy a downloaded cdrtxt.dll into System32 or SysWOW64 to bypass the error. The safe sources are the original Corel installer, a verified organizational backup, or Corel’s own repair process.
A controlled enterprise or forensic repair can use an extracted DLL when its authenticity, hash, architecture, Corel release, and dependencies are already known. That is not a suitable shortcut for normal troubleshooting.
Does regsvr32 fix cdrtxt.dll?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A private Corel runtime DLL generally does not need to be registered.
Running this command:
regsvr32 CdrTxt.dll
may produce:
The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
That message does not prove that the file is missing. It means the DLL is not a self-registering component. Do not register it unless documentation for the exact Corel product explicitly instructs you to do so.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What about Windows Features or Visual C++?
Windows Features are not normally involved in restoring cdrtxt.dll. Enabling random features such as legacy components can add unrelated system files and will not recreate the Corel Text Manager DLL.
Likewise, reinstalling Visual C++ is relevant only when the error specifically names a Microsoft runtime such as:
VCRUNTIME140.dll
MSVCP140.dll
If the only missing file is cdrtxt.dll, repair Corel first.
When Repair succeeds but another DLL is missing
A Corel installation can have more than one damaged component. If Repair changes the error to a different missing DLL:

- Do not download it separately.
- Run Repair again if the installer offers it.
- Check antivirus quarantine for the new filename.
- Reinstall the complete Corel suite if Repair cannot restore the component.
The new error often shows that the first missing file was only the earliest failure Windows reported.
Frequently asked questions
Is cdrtxt.dll part of Windows?
No. It is identified as a Corel Text Manager DLL associated with Corel Common Framework. It should normally be supplied by the Corel installer.
Which Corel program uses it?
It can be involved in Corel Graphics Suite components, including the installation that provides CorelDRAW and related applications. Use the error path and the installed product information to identify the exact release.
Where should cdrtxt.dll be located?
It should normally be in the relevant Corel program directory. The exact folder differs by Corel release, edition, installation choice, and architecture.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can I copy it from another computer?
Only if the other computer has the identical Corel release, update level, architecture, and dependency set, and the file’s authenticity is known. Repairing or reinstalling from the original Corel installer is safer.
Why did it disappear after an update?
An update may have failed or installed only part of its files. Antivirus quarantine, a crash, disk cleanup, manual deletion, and an interrupted uninstall can produce the same result.
Should I run SFC first?
Not for an isolated cdrtxt.dll error. Repair Corel first. Use DISM and SFC when other Windows components or applications also show corruption.
What if only an old Corel version fails?
Repair the old version named in the error path. Do not copy a DLL from a newer installation into it. If the old version is no longer needed, uninstall it completely instead of replacing individual files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
