What “cheapest but still good” means for an Unturned server
The lowest headline price is not automatically the lowest usable cost. An Unturned server can become impractical when it has too few player slots, insufficient memory for a Workshop map, no workable backup, an inconvenient region or billing terms that make testing expensive. Compare the complete configuration rather than a promotional number alone.

On the evidence available for October 13, 2026, GTX Gaming is the clearest low-entry managed choice. It should be understood as the lowest verified offer found here, not proof that no cheaper host exists in every country or currency.
The lowest clearly verified managed plan
GTX Gaming: £6.00 per month for 20 slots
GTX Gaming lists a 20-slot plan at £6.00 per month. The advertised package includes 5GB of RAM and up to 100GB of NVMe storage. The page says slots can be changed and that each additional slot costs £0.30 per month. Published monthly billing is described as having no contract or setup fee, and the provider advertises a 24-hour refund guarantee. Confirm the applicable currency, tax, refund conditions and final total for your country before paying.
The same offer advertises free Workshop and plugin support, Rocket (LDM) and OpenMod compatibility, daily backups with restore controls, DDoS protection, instant setup, 24/7 support and 19 global locations. These are provider claims and plan features; no independent uptime, latency or load test establishes how they perform for your group.

GTX’s published memory guidance
GTX says its included 5GB is suitable for up to 40 players on official maps. Its guidance suggests 8GB for 50 or more players, or for a large Workshop map with mods, and 12GB for a full 100-slot server with a large modpack. GTX also reports that a fresh demo installation used about 1GB of RAM with nobody connected. Those figures are the provider’s sizing advice and observation, not official Unturned requirements or universal thresholds. Treat them as a starting point, then leave headroom for your actual map, plugins and player count.
How the known options compare
| Option | Advertised configuration or evidence | What is established | Important uncertainty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Godlike.Host | Unturned server hosting with a free server card (1-2 GB) for trying the panel; see the current plans for slots and RAM | 10 locations, free DDoS protection, a personal firewall, up to three free backups a day with restore, a Pterodactyl-based panel with task scheduler, sub-users and SFTP/FTP access, and 24/7 live chat or ticket support are listed. | The free server must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features and one location; no independent performance testing here, so check the current plans for your slot count. |
| GTX Gaming | £6.00/month; 20 slots; 5GB RAM; up to 100GB NVMe | Workshop and plugin support, Rocket (LDM), OpenMod, daily backups, DDoS protection and 19 locations are advertised. | No independent performance testing; verify region, taxes and checkout terms. |
| Nitrado | 4-, 10- and 20-slot configurations; 30-day subscription option; selectable locations | The offer page exposes those configurations and location choices. | Rendered price evidence conflicts with the search result, including for the 4-slot tier. Check the final configured price at checkout. |
| Pingperfect | A September 2026 comparison reports $5.44/month for 10 slots and 9GB | Only the secondary report establishes that figure. | The amount was not confirmed against an accessible official offer page, so it is not a verified cheapest verdict. |
| Self-hosting | No hosting subscription; run the Unturned Dedicated Server tool yourself | Official documentation describes SteamCMD installation and internet-server requirements. | You provide the machine, network access, updates, backups, security and troubleshooting. |
The reported $5.44 figure may be attractive, but it is not comparable until the same slot count, memory, storage, location, billing period and included features are confirmed on the provider’s own checkout. A small-memory budget tier can be cheaper while being unsuitable for a large map or modpack.
Choose the right size before comparing prices
Small vanilla or official-map group
If your group is limited to a few friends and uses an official map with light configuration changes, prioritize a low monthly minimum and reliable access to backups. A 20-slot plan can still be economical because you are paying for a published package rather than buying exactly the number of players you expect each night.

Workshop maps and plugins
Workshop maps, Rocket or OpenMod plugins and larger asset collections increase memory and storage pressure. Start with the provider’s stated 8GB guidance for a large Workshop map with mods, but monitor actual usage after installation. Keep a backup before adding or updating a large mod collection so that a failed update can be reversed.

Large communities
A 100-slot target is a different class of service. GTX’s own guidance points to 12GB for a full 100-slot server with a large modpack. You should also confirm CPU allocation, player-count limits, map support and administrative controls; the £6 entry package is not evidence that the base tier is appropriate for that workload.
Managed hosting versus running the server yourself
| Decision factor | Managed host | Self-hosted dedicated server |
|---|---|---|
| Recurring cost | Monthly subscription; GTX’s documented entry is £6 for 20 slots. | No hosting subscription, but you pay in hardware, electricity, bandwidth and your own time. |
| Setup | Instant setup and a control panel are advertised by GTX. | Install and update the dedicated-server tool through SteamCMD. |
| Internet access | The host supplies the public service and location. | Configure a GSLT and either Fake IP or port forwarding. |
| Backups | GTX advertises daily backups and restore controls. | You must create, verify and store backups yourself. |
| Maintenance | The provider handles the machine and platform; you still manage the game, mods and permissions. | You handle operating-system updates, SteamCMD updates, security, crashes and hardware failures. |
| Control | Convenient panel controls, but subject to the provider’s limits and policies. | Maximum control over files and automation, with maximum responsibility. |
Self-hosting is therefore a way to remove a hosting bill, not a free equivalent of managed hosting. It makes sense when someone in the group can keep a machine online and is willing to administer it.

How to start with a managed host
- Define the workload. Write down the maximum simultaneous players, map type, Workshop items, plugins and desired region.
- Compare the complete checkout. Check the slot count, RAM, storage, billing period, currency, taxes, renewal price and refund terms—not just the advertised starting figure.
- Select a nearby location. GTX advertises 19 locations and a ping test. Use the test as an indication only; actual in-game latency varies by player ISP and route.
- Install the game content. Add the map and Workshop items in the host panel, then verify that every player has matching versions.
- Set administration and recovery. Create operator permissions, schedule or confirm backups, and perform a restore test before inviting a large group.
- Measure real usage. Watch memory, crashes, tick behavior and connection quality during a busy session. Upgrade RAM or slots only when observed demand justifies it.
How to self-host an Unturned server
Official Unturned guidance uses the Unturned Dedicated Server tool, installed and updated through Valve’s SteamCMD. A new server starts as LAN by default. To make it visible and reachable over the public internet, the documentation requires a valid Game Server Login Token (GSLT) and either Fake IP or conventional port forwarding. The documentation describes Fake IP as easier and adequate for most servers.
- Prepare an always-on machine. Use a wired connection where possible and ensure the machine has enough memory for the map and mods you intend to run.
- Install SteamCMD and the Unturned Dedicated Server tool. Keep the tool updated through SteamCMD rather than copying an old server directory indefinitely.
- Configure the server. Set the name, map, player limit, password, permissions and Workshop content in the server files or commands provided by the game.
- Create and apply a GSLT. Without a valid token, the server may not appear in the public server list.
- Choose Fake IP or port forwarding. Fake IP avoids much of the router configuration. Port forwarding requires forwarding the game’s required ports to the server machine and allowing them through the local firewall.
- Test from outside your home network. A local connection can work while public players remain blocked. Have a friend connect externally and confirm listing, joining and moderation controls.
- Automate maintenance. Schedule restarts, copy world saves to another disk, update mods deliberately and keep a rollback copy before major changes.
Costs that can make a “cheap” plan expensive
- Memory upgrades: the lowest tier may require an 8GB or 12GB upgrade once you add a large Workshop collection.
- Slot expansion: GTX states that each additional slot costs £0.30 per month, so calculate the total rather than assuming the base price remains unchanged.
- Billing period: monthly billing is easier to test; longer commitments can alter the effective rate and refund rights.
- Currency and tax: a UK-listed £6 price may not equal the amount charged to a buyer elsewhere.
- Backups: confirm retention, restore access and whether backups are included or an add-on.
- Location: a cheaper distant region can produce worse play for your group than a slightly more expensive nearby one.
Common problems and practical fixes
The server runs out of memory
Reduce Workshop content, remove unused plugins, lower the slot target or move to the next memory tier. Do not infer that a fresh empty server’s reported 1GB usage will represent a populated modded world.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPlayers cannot see or join a self-hosted server
Check the GSLT first, then confirm whether you selected Fake IP or correctly forwarded the required ports. Test from an external connection, because joining from the same LAN can hide public-network errors.

A mod update breaks the world
Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup, then update one Workshop item at a time. Keep a copy of the world save before changing the collection.
Players report lag despite a nearby location
Location reduces one part of network distance but does not guarantee low latency. Compare several players’ routes, check server resource usage during the incident and distinguish network delay from simulation overload.
The checkout price does not match an article or search result
Use the configured checkout as the controlling figure. Plans, currencies, locations and promotions change; the conflicting Nitrado price evidence is a specific example of why an old comparison number should not be treated as current.
Verdict: which option is best for most budget groups?
For a managed Unturned server, our top pick is Godlike.Host: it offers a free Unturned server to try the panel (extended every 3 hours, limited panel features, one location), 10 locations, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and 24/7 support; see the current plans for slots and RAM. On price alone, GTX Gaming’s documented £6 per month, 20-slot plan with 5GB RAM and up to 100GB NVMe is the lowest clearly verified low-entry offer in this comparison. It becomes less obviously cheap when your map collection needs more memory, when your region changes the checkout price or when you need more slots. The advertised backups, mod support and multiple locations address the practical requirements that make a low-cost server usable, but they remain vendor claims rather than independent performance guarantees.
If your group can administer a machine, the Unturned Dedicated Server tool can eliminate the hosting subscription. In exchange, you take responsibility for SteamCMD updates, GSLT setup, Fake IP or port forwarding, security, backups and every outage. The reported lower price for Pingperfect is worth checking independently, but the figure available here is a secondary report and should not be called a verified bargain until its official checkout details match your required slots, RAM, region and billing terms.
