The game in the 2025 “next week” announcement was Chibi-Robo!, and it is now available through Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics on Nintendo Switch 2. To play it through Nintendo’s official library, you need a Switch 2 and an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
What happened to the “next week” announcement?
On August 13, 2025, Engadget reported that Chibi-Robo! would join the Switch 2 GameCube library on August 21. Nintendo confirmed the game’s addition in an update dated August 21, 2025. The announcement is no longer upcoming news: the game is in the library now. Engadget’s August 13, 2025 report and Nintendo’s announcement document the release.

What kind of game is Chibi-Robo!?
Nintendo describes Chibi-Robo as a four-inch-tall robot who arrives at the Sanderson house to help the family and bring happiness. You take on household tasks, clean, search for lost items, collect Happy Points and Moolah, and try to climb the Chibi-Rankings. Engadget characterizes it as a platform-adventure game built around housework missions and encounters with the family’s animals and toys.
The original release year varies by source. Engadget gives 2005, while Nintendo’s US page says 2006; Nintendo Japan’s announcement calls it a 2005 GameCube game. It is safest to describe it as a GameCube-era original unless the regional release history is the point of discussion. Nintendo Japan’s announcement provides the 2005 date.
#1 Best Overall
- The living room can be a dangerous place when you're a robot less than a foot tall; team up with the native toys to overcome obstacles, rack up points and keep the family happy
- Find special costumes throughout the game to enable Chibi to take on a new personality
- Explore different areas of the home and encounter several interesting characters on Chibi's journey
- Use Chibi's several tools and accessories creatively to help him reach his goals
- Don't forget to charge Chibi's battery -- plug into power outlets with his built-in cord when he runs low on juice
How to play it on Switch 2
- Use a Nintendo Switch 2 console.
- Make sure your Nintendo Switch Online membership is at the + Expansion Pack tier.
- Open the GameCube – Nintendo Classics library and select Chibi-Robo!.
Nintendo lists the game in that library and states the hardware and membership requirements. Its Expansion Pack membership page and support guide to accessing Nintendo Classics libraries describe access to the classic-game libraries. You do not need to buy an original GameCube disc to use this official route.
Is the original GameCube game rare or expensive?
Engadget described the physical game as increasingly hard to play and reported in August 2025 that a second-hand copy could cost up to $200. That is a dated price observation in one article, not a current quote, average, or verified measure of the game’s rarity. Current listings and prices have not been established here, and no verified sales total or print run is available in the cited sources.
Rank #2
A physical copy remains a collector’s route; Switch 2’s GameCube library is a separate way to play, subject to Nintendo’s hardware and membership requirements. Nintendo Japan also mentioned a wireless GameCube-style controller with a C button for Switch Online members, but did not make it a requirement for Chibi-Robo!.
