Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before copying or downloading anything, record:
- Which program shows the error: note its name, shortcut, launcher, and installation folder.
- When it fails: during startup, after an update, after antivirus activity, or only when opening one feature.
- The exact message: “missing,” “not found,” “specified module could not be found,” “entry point not found,” “not designed to run on Windows,” and error
0xc000007bpoint to different causes. - The process architecture: determine whether the affected application is 64-bit or 32-bit. A 64-bit Windows installation can run either kind.
- The file location: check whether
chilkatdelphi64.dllis beside the executable that actually launches the program.

The safest first action is to repair or reinstall the affected application using its original installer, vendor launcher, or official update mechanism. Do not begin by downloading a loose DLL or putting one in System32.
What chilkatdelphi64.dll is
chilkatdelphi64.dll is the 64-bit native implementation of Chilkat’s Delphi library. Chilkat Software supplies it in the official Chilkat Delphi DLL package for Delphi and Embarcadero RAD Studio applications.

It is an application library, not a Windows system file, driver, .NET runtime component, or DirectX file. There is no authoritative basis for assigning it to a particular game or consumer application. The program that displays the error is the important clue because that program owns the copy Windows needs.

Chilkat’s documented deployment method is app-local: place the matching DLL in the same folder as the application’s output .exe. Windows searches the application directory early in its normal DLL search order.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the affected application
This is the most likely fix when the file was deleted, omitted from an update, or never deployed correctly.
If the program has its own launcher
- Close the program and its launcher.
- Reopen the launcher from the Start menu.
- Look for Verify, Repair, Scan and repair, Check files, or a similar command.
- Run that operation and allow it to replace missing files.
- Start the program again.
A launcher’s repair function is preferable to replacing one DLL manually because it restores the executable, libraries, configuration, and version combination that belong together.
If the program is listed in Windows
- Press Win+I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the application and choose Advanced options where available.
- Choose Repair if it is offered.
- Test the program.
- If the error remains, return to the same screen and choose Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data and settings.
For classic desktop programs, open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features, select the application, and choose Change, Repair, or Modify if the installer provides that option. Microsoft also documents these Windows app repair procedures.
If repair does not work
Uninstall the affected application, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the original vendor installer or the vendor’s official launcher. Keep a copy of saved settings or project data first if the program stores them in its installation folder.
After reinstalling, confirm that the application starts before restoring custom plugins or manually copied files. A failed update can leave an old executable beside a newer DLL, or the reverse. Reinstalling the complete application corrects that mismatch.
Fix 2: Confirm 32-bit versus 64-bit compatibility
A chilkatdelphi64.dll error does not mean that every program on 64-bit Windows should use this file. The process architecture determines which Chilkat DLL is correct.

To check a running application:
- Start Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and select Select columns.
- Enable Platform if your Windows version provides that column.
- Check whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.
On some systems, a 32-bit process is marked with “32-bit” or appears as a 32-bit application. You can also check the application vendor’s documentation or ask the developer which build was installed.
- A 64-bit application requires
ChilkatDelphi64.dll. - A 32-bit application requires
ChilkatDelphi32.dll. - The bitness of Windows alone does not decide the correct file.
If a 32-bit executable is trying to load the 64-bit DLL, reinstall the correct application build or restore ChilkatDelphi32.dll from the program’s official package. Do not rename one architecture to look like the other. That cannot convert the binary and can produce “not designed to run on Windows” or 0xc000007b.
Fix 3: Restore the official DLL beside the actual executable
This step is mainly for a Delphi application you maintain or administer, rather than an application that should be repaired through its own installer.
- Open Chilkat’s official Delphi DLL API and download page.
- Download the current Chilkat Delphi DLL package that matches the application’s requirements. Do not rely on old third-party version or size listings.
- Extract the package completely to a temporary folder.
- Locate
ChilkatDelphi64.dll. - Find the real application executable. Right-click the program shortcut, select Properties, and inspect Target. The DLL belongs beside that target
.exe, not necessarily beside the shortcut, installer, or launcher. - Back up the existing file if one is present.
- Copy the matching official DLL beside the 64-bit executable.
- Start the application.
If the package includes a 32-bit executable, use ChilkatDelphi32.dll beside that executable instead. Keep the DLL version aligned with the application and its Pascal interface units. A newer standalone DLL is not automatically compatible with an older executable.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not copy this file to C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or a global PATH directory. App-local deployment avoids conflicts between applications that require different Chilkat versions.
Do not download chilkatdelphi64.dll from random DLL download sites. A loose file can contain malware, be the wrong architecture, be incompatible with the application, or hide the real problem. Use the application’s original installer or Chilkat’s official package instead.
Fix 4: Investigate dependencies and load errors
If the message says “The specified module could not be found” while chilkatdelphi64.dll is visibly beside the .exe, Windows may be unable to find a dependency of that DLL. The named file is not always the missing file.

First, fully extract the official application package and confirm the filename is exactly:
ChilkatDelphi64.dll
Check for common deployment mistakes such as:
ChilkatDelphi64.dll.dllcaused by hidden file extensions- a DLL left inside the downloaded ZIP instead of extracted
- a copy beside a launcher rather than the executable it starts
- an old DLL beside a newly updated executable
- a 32-bit DLL renamed as the 64-bit file
If the application vendor lists Microsoft Visual C++ runtime prerequisites, install the architecture it requires from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable page. Use vc_redist.x64.exe for a 64-bit application and vc_redist.x86.exe for a 32-bit application. This is a conditional dependency repair, not a replacement for ChilkatDelphi64.dll; Chilkat’s Delphi page does not define one universal Visual C++ prerequisite for every build.
If the message is “entry point not found,” restore the DLL shipped with the application or reinstall the complete application. That error commonly indicates an incompatible executable and library pair rather than a simple missing file.
If the message says the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or shows 0xc000007b, check architecture and integrity before installing more runtimes. Reinstall the application from a trusted source if the file is damaged.
Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have removed or quarantined the application’s copy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving the affected application or
ChilkatDelphi64.dll. - Confirm the file came from the legitimate application installer or Chilkat’s official package.
- If you are certain it is legitimate, follow Windows Security’s restore or allow instructions.
- Repair or reinstall the application afterward if the file is not restored correctly.
Do not restore a file merely because its name matches the error. Microsoft explains the risks and decisions in its guide to Protection History. If the file came from an unofficial download, delete it and reinstall from a trusted source instead.

SFC and DISM do not normally restore a third-party Chilkat DLL. They are appropriate when several unrelated applications are failing, Windows itself is unstable, or system component corruption is suspected.

- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker instructions. If both commands report repairs but the same application still cannot load, return to that application’s installer. These commands are not a direct replacement for its missing third-party library.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slower. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows problems and show what it finds before repair, while the full version performs the repair; reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix when its own DLL is missing.
Fix 7: Consider System Restore after a recent change
Use System Restore when the failure began immediately after an installation, update, or system change and earlier restore points exist.
- Press Win+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the list.
- Select Finish to begin the restore.
System Restore rolls back system settings, installed programs, and drivers, but it does not normally remove personal files. Microsoft describes the process in its System Restore guide. If the issue is limited to one application, reinstalling that application is usually more targeted.
Should you reinstall drivers or use Device Manager
No official source identifies ChilkatDelphi64.dll as a driver component, so driver reinstall is not a normal first-line remedy. Use Device Manager only when the same incident includes a separate hardware or driver problem.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the category for the affected hardware.
- Right-click the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- If the problem began after a driver update, open Properties → Driver and use Roll Back Driver when available.
- Restart Windows and retest the application.
Do not uninstall unrelated devices simply because a DLL error appeared. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale driver versions and identify what needs attention, while the full version performs the driver installation; it is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns chilkatdelphi64.dll.

Do not run:
regsvr32 chilkatdelphi64.dll
Chilkat identifies its Delphi DLL as a non-ActiveX library that does not require registration. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose the required COM registration entry points. Running it on this file will not repair a missing dependency, architecture mismatch, or incompatible version, and may only produce another error.
Final diagnostic checklist
If the error remains, collect these details before replacing anything else:
- The exact application name and executable path.
- Whether the failure occurs at startup or during a specific operation.
- The complete error text and code.
- Whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether
ChilkatDelphi64.dllis beside the actual launching.exe. - The file’s source and version information.
- Whether Windows Security quarantined it.
- Whether the application was recently updated or partially reinstalled.
- Whether other applications fail in the same way.
The correct resolution is usually to restore the matching vendor-supplied DLL beside the correct executable, not to install a random system-wide copy.
