What Hotfix 2.8.1 fixed
Torn Banner Studios released Hotfix 2.8.1 on 15 May 2023 as a minor hotfix for issues following the Raiding Party update. Its notes describe several fixes, including:
- Crash fixes for PS4.
- An Xbox crash related to friends and parties.
- A crash caused by accepting two party invitations in quick succession.
The studio said it was still looking into more crash fixes and cheat prevention. That statement identifies ongoing work, not a finding that anti-cheat authentication caused the listed crashes. Torn Banner Studios’ Hotfix 2.8.1 notes
What the developers said before and after the hotfix
Before release: several issues were being prioritized
In a 11 May 2023 follow-up, Torn Banner said it was prioritizing multiple crashes, purchasing issues, votekicks, constructable placement, and exploits. After release: “Invalid Join Data” affected some queues
On 23 May 2023, the studio discussed “Invalid Join Data” as a problem affecting some matchmaking queues. It said there was no reliable workaround and suggested trying matchmaking again; if that failed, restarting the game might help temporarily. The post also covered cross-platform party invitations, but did not attribute either issue to anti-cheat authentication. Torn Banner Studios’ 23 May development update
Does the official record acknowledge an anti-cheat authentication issue?
Not in the official posts cited here. The 15 May notes mention continuing work on cheat prevention, while the crash fixes are described separately. The 23 May update discusses matchmaking and party invitations without naming anti-cheat authentication as their cause.
A UMATechnology article published on 16 May 2026 makes the anti-cheat authentication connection, but that is a third-party claim, not confirmation from Torn Banner in the official posts above. What to try if matchmaking shows “Invalid Join Data”
- Try matchmaking again.
- If another attempt fails, restart Chivalry 2 and try again. Torn Banner described restarting as a measure that might help temporarily, not a reliable fix.
This advice comes from the studio’s May 2023 update and concerns the matchmaking error it described. It does not establish a remedy for every crash or for an anti-cheat authentication problem.
