Yes—Cities: Skylines II has in-game mod support. Map and Code Mods first launched through Paradox Mods on March 25, 2024; Asset Mods arrived later as a beta Editor implementation in December 2025. Some further Editor and launcher changes were still described as in progress in August 2026, with no release date given.
Does Cities: Skylines 2 have mods?
Yes. The official mod platform is Paradox Mods, integrated into the game. The first release offered Map and Code Mods, with browsing and Playsets for organizing content. Paradox said it chose the service with the aim of offering players on PC and console the same possibilities, but that design goal does not establish that every mod type is available on every platform today.
Paradox’s March 19, 2024 developer diary explains the platform choice and original Playsets concept. The publisher announced the first in-game modding options on March 25, 2024.
What kinds of mods are available?
| Type | Status and timing | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Map Mods | Included in the first in-game modding options, March 25, 2024 | Maps were part of the initial Paradox Mods release. |
| Code Mods | Included in the first in-game modding options, March 25, 2024 | Code Mods were part of the initial release alongside maps. |
| Asset Mods | First beta Editor implementation in patch 1.5.2f1, December 4, 2025 | This was described as the first iteration, not a claim that the feature had reached a final state. |
At the initial launch, Paradox said asset modding and improvements to the toolset would follow. Its December 4, 2025 Asset Mods patch notes introduced the first beta implementation in the Editor and said creators could begin sharing assets. It also warned that asset submissions might take time to appear in the mod library.

How do I install mods in Cities: Skylines II?
Use the in-game Paradox Mods integration to discover and manage online mods. The precise menu labels and layout may change between game updates, so follow the current in-game interface rather than relying on an older path. Paradox’s original launch description put mod discovery and Playsets in the game; it described Playsets as collections players could curate and toggle.
- Open the game and go to its Paradox Mods area from the main menu.
- Browse the available mod listings and select the content you want.
- Add the selected mods to a Playset, then activate the Playset you want to use.
- For Asset Mods using the December 2025 beta implementation, update the base game and all installed DLC, then restart before downloading assets. That was the specific guidance for that update, not necessarily a permanent requirement for every later version.
Paradox’s March 2024 diary said the platform could resolve a mod’s dependency tree when it was added to a Playset. It also described managing online mods and Playsets in-game or on the Paradox Mods website, with website changes syncing to the game. These details describe the original implementation; check the current interface and listing for present behavior.
What are Playsets, and do local mods sync?
A Playset is a group of mods you can manage together, making it easier to switch between different mod collections. Paradox said online Playsets were stored in its backend and could replicate across devices. The same 2024 diary said local mods from other sources could be included in Playsets, but local mods were not cloud-synced and could be lost if the computer failed. That does not guarantee compatibility with every outside mod source.

Does Cities: Skylines 2 have Steam Workshop support?
The official mod channel identified in the launch announcement is Paradox Mods, not Steam Workshop. The game’s first in-game Map and Code Mods were distributed through Paradox’s own service. Do not assume a Workshop listing or subscription will install or update a mod through the official in-game system.
Can Cities: Skylines II use custom assets?
Yes. Asset Mods entered the game through a beta Editor update in patch 1.5.2f1 on December 4, 2025. Paradox’s patch notes advised players to bring the base game and every DLC fully up to date and restart before downloading new assets; attempting to use assets before updating could cause unexpected issues. Because this advice accompanied that specific beta update, consult the notes for your current game version before troubleshooting later asset downloads.

In an August 11, 2026 update, Paradox described additional Asset Editor improvements, including streamlined inspection and search workflows, localization tools, and prop placement overrides. It also outlined planned launcher features for managing Playsets before starting the game, warning about corrupt or outdated Playsets, and attempting to update mods installed from the PDX Mods backend.

Paradox said this work was in progress and gave no exact release date. The August update is therefore not confirmation that the launcher features have shipped. Check newer official patch notes for their current status.
Are Cities: Skylines II mods available on console?
Paradox’s 2024 explanation says it selected Paradox Mods to give PC and console players the same possibilities. That states the goal behind the platform, but it does not verify current console availability for each category of mod, including Code Mods and Asset Mods. Check the mod listing and platform-specific game information for the version you play.
