Petanks are optional, quick-to-flee encounters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Prioritize Speed and Break actions, and be ready to use the encounter’s specific mechanic rather than relying on ordinary attacks. Locations below are reported leads, not a verified complete roster: available guides conflict or provide only partial directions.
How to catch a Petank before it escapes
DTG Reviews advises prioritizing Speed and Break actions because Petanks can escape quickly. Treat this as guide advice, not a universal turn-by-turn strategy: the Monolith green Petank, for example, requires free-aim shots at its exposed core. Check the individual encounter notes below before committing to a damage plan.

Where are the Petanks?
DTG Reviews names Petank encounters in the following areas. Its list is not independently confirmed as exhaustive, and its directions are generally too broad to serve as a complete route.
- Ancient Sanctuary
- Esquie’s Nest
- Stone Wave Cliffs
- Forgotten Battlefield
- Sirene, where the guide reports two encounters
- The Monolith
- Isle of the Eyes
- Endless Night Sanctuary
- The Reacher
- Flying Manor, where the guide reports multiple encounters
- A Chromatic Petank on the world map
These are location leads, not a definitive count. DTG Reviews also makes claims about spawn timing and respawning that are not corroborated here. Its overview is dated April 28, 2025, and updated March 22, 2026: DTG Reviews’ Petank locations and rewards guide.

Partial route clues from other guides
Search-result snippets offer a few more precise landmarks, but the underlying Game8 and Neoseeker pages were unavailable for review. Use these as tentative pointers rather than verified directions:
- Isle of the Eyes: Game8’s snippet says to proceed forward and up stairs beneath a mannequin with an eye in its chest.
- Sirene: Game8’s snippet places a blue Petank to the left of the Glissando boss area.
- Flying Manor: Game8’s snippet points to a lower floor reached by a winding ramp.
Game8’s accessible result is at How to Catch Petanks. Neoseeker’s accessible result lists reward examples for Sirène and Isle of the Eyes, but the article itself returned an access error: Neoseeker Petank Locations.

Where is the green Petank in the Monolith?
Gamepressure places the green Petank roughly halfway through the Monolith, in the section modeled on Stone Wave Cliffs. In that guide’s account, you first guide the creature into a nearby runic circle to start the fight.
How to defeat it
- Use free-aim ranged shots on the green core. Gamepressure reports that ordinary attacks deal greatly reduced damage.
- After the first hit, watch for the core to disappear and briefly reappear in random locations.
- Aim and fire single shots while the core is visible. The guide says the Petank flees after three turns, so avoid wasting turns on attacks that cannot meaningfully damage it.
Gamepressure’s guide, updated May 29, 2025, reports these encounter rewards:

What does the Chromatic Petank drop?
Millenium places the Chromatic Petank in an outdoor area in the southeast of the world map, reachable by flying in Act 3. To trigger the fight, push it along a long route through water to its marked base.

- Engaging Storyline: Dive into a rich, narrative-driven adventure with unexpected twists.
- Complex Puzzles: Test your problem-solving skills with challenging puzzles.
- Immersive World: Explore a visually stunning alien planet with breathtaking details and treacherous terrain.
How to handle the fight
Millenium says the Chromatic Petank can summon smaller Petanks that heal it. If damage to the main target is not keeping pace with that healing, defeat the smaller enemies instead of ignoring them. The guide also reports roughly 700,000 HP and particular vulnerability to parries; those are guide-reported combat details, not independently tested figures.
Millenium reports the following rewards:
- 1,471,770 XP
- Anti-Stun Picto, described by the guide as granting immunity to stun
- Grandiose Chroma Catalyst ×2
- Lumicolor ×5
- “Carreau Parfait” achievement, rendered as “Perfect Shot” in the guide’s English translation
See Millenium’s Chromatic Petank guide, published May 2, 2025, for its encounter and reward report.

How complete are the location and reward lists?
The available sources do not establish a definitive Petank count or a fully verified list of locations and drops. DTG Reviews supplies the broadest roster, while Game8 and Neoseeker add only snippet-level route and reward clues. The detailed Monolith and Chromatic encounter reports are more specific, but their reward amounts remain reports from those individual guides, not a complete rewards catalogue.
For basic game context, the official site lists Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as released April 24, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic. It describes combat as turn-based with real-time actions and free-aim: official game overview.
