This guide covers the Dagger Duchess 1v1/2v2 event, which ran April 1–8, 2024, and its challenge, April 5–8. It does not cover the separate Duchess Draft event, which followed April 8–15, with its own challenge from April 12–15. Supercell’s April 2024 schedule distinguishes them.

How to play against Dagger Duchess
Build your push around the tower’s burst-then-reload pattern. Start with one or two units that can take hits, prompting the Duchess to use her opening knives. Once that reserve is spent, add the units that deal your main tower damage. The aim is to make her defend through the reload window rather than send a fragile damage dealer into her full burst.
That timing is the common thread in the event-era deck advice: durable pressure first, damage second. It works best when your deck can keep the attack going after the initial tank reaches the tower or is removed.

Best Dagger Duchess event decks: three complete examples
These lists were published by GosuNoob in a guide updated April 8, 2024. The guide marks an Evolution slot in each list; treat that as its listed deck configuration, not a requirement that every player has the same card levels or Evolution unlocks. The source provides no comparative win rates, so the decks below are not ranked against one another. See the event-era deck guide.
X-Bow cycle
- Archers (Evolution slot in the guide)

This siege option can use Knight to absorb pressure before placing X-Bow as the main damage threat. Its low-cost cycle cards support repeated pressure, but you still need to time the X-Bow push so it is not exposed to the Duchess’s full reserve.

P.E.K.K.A bridge spam
- Zap (Evolution slot in the guide)

This list threatens at the bridge with several attackers and has P.E.K.K.A as a durable front-line unit. Use the larger unit to draw the burst, then layer a bridge threat behind or in another lane while the tower’s reserve is depleted.
Lava Hound/Balloon

- Lava Hound
- Balloon
- Miner
- Inferno Dragon
- Skeleton Dragons
- Arrows
- Zap
This air beatdown list puts a large tank in front of high-threat air units. A Lava Hound can draw the tower’s attention while Balloon supplies the direct tower pressure; avoid committing the damage units before the Duchess has spent much of her opening burst.

Other event-era recommendations
Orange Juice Gaming’s April 5, 2024 video description says its creator won the 12-win challenge undefeated and recommends Graveyard and large tanks such as Lava Hound or Golem. That is the creator’s reported experience and advice, not an independently verified event ranking. Read the video description.
Those suggestions follow the same strategic idea: provide something substantial for the tower to attack, then put damage on the board while it recovers. Choose Graveyard or a large-tank plan if those cards and your support options fit your collection; the source does not provide a complete Graveyard deck list.

What the Duchess’s mechanics meant in April 2024
RoyaleAPI’s March 30, 2024 analysis described Dagger Duchess as holding up to eight knives, releasing them quickly, and then recovering them slowly. Its period figures were 437 DPS during the initial burst at a 0.35-second hit time, 306 DPS for the last knife at 0.5 seconds, and 93 DPS during reload-plus-throw at 1.65 seconds. RoyaleAPI also listed 3,204 HP for Duchess, compared with 3,052 for Tower Princess and 2,616 for Cannoneer. These are historical April 2024 values, not current card stats. RoyaleAPI’s dated mechanics analysis reproduces the card description: “This Royal throws low Damage daggers until she is fully charged, when she will throw all of her daggers at one target for high Damage!” It continues: “Oh, one more thing. Don’t call her a Princess.”
The tactical implication in that analysis was that the initial burst punished small pushes, while a heavy push or large swarm was harder for the tower to handle after the reserve ran down. That supports using a sturdy opener and maintaining pressure, rather than treating the Duchess as equally dangerous at every moment.

Why these are historical event decks, not current recommendations
Supercell changed Dagger Duchess’s dagger charge from 0.8 to 0.9 seconds and hit speed from 0.35 to 0.45 seconds in its July 2, 2024 balance changes. That change came after the event, so April’s mechanic figures and deck context should not be presented as current. Supercell’s July 2024 balance notes.
A live RoyaleAPI deck-filter page checked on October 8, 2026 shows a one-day Normal Battle view; it cannot establish which decks won the April 2024 event. The cited sources also do not provide an event-wide ranked sample, controlled deck comparison, or official best-deck list. How to choose among the lists
- Prefer siege and repeatable cycle pressure? Start with X-Bow cycle and use Knight to help draw the burst before committing your win condition.
- Prefer quick ground attacks? Try P.E.K.K.A bridge spam, letting a durable unit lead before adding bridge threats.
- Prefer air beatdown? Use Lava Hound/Balloon to place a large tank ahead of the damage dealers.
- Missing a card, Evolution, or suitable levels? Adapt the list to the cards you actually have. The sources do not establish a universally superior replacement or a ranking by collection level.
