The cnb_0324.dll error usually points to an incomplete, damaged, or partly removed Canon Inkjet Printer Driver installation. The practical fix is to identify the Canon printer software involved and reinstall the complete, model-specific driver from Canon, not to download this DLL by itself.
The 60-second answer
- Note the Canon printer model installed on the PC.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and remove the affected printer.
- Uninstall related Canon printer software from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the driver for the exact printer model and Windows version from Canon’s official support portal.
- Install it, restart again, and test printing or the Canon utility that produced the error.
If you no longer use the Canon printer, remove its obsolete printer entry and startup utility instead. A missing DLL error from an unused Canon component can be caused by a leftover startup reference rather than an actively needed driver.
What cnb_0324.dll is
CNB_0324.DLL is associated with an older Canon Inkjet Printer Driver component published by CANON INC. Public file records commonly identify it as a 32-bit driver file and list version 0.3.1536.1, but other records describe a different build inside a 64-bit Windows driver-store package.

That difference matters. There is no single universally safe copy of this file for every Canon printer or Windows installation. Reported sizes, hashes, paths, and builds differ, and the exact Canon printer models that use the file have not been publicly confirmed by Canon.
This is not established as a Microsoft Windows component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or .NET file. Installing a Visual C++ Redistributable is therefore not the normal solution.
The file may appear in a Canon driver directory or within Windows’ driver store. Do not create a reported driver-store path manually, and do not assume that a file with the same name outside a Canon installation directory is genuine.
Why the error happens
The most likely causes are:
- A Canon driver installation was interrupted or damaged.
- A Canon driver was removed while a startup utility remained.
- Windows Update replaced or disrupted an older printer driver.
- Antivirus software quarantined part of the Canon package.
- A 32-bit or legacy driver is incompatible with the current Windows installation.
- A disk cleanup, system restore, cloning operation, or migration left an incomplete driver reference.
- Another dependency used by the Canon utility is missing, even though the error names
cnb_0324.dll. - The file belongs to an obsolete Canon printer that is no longer connected.
The program named in the error is important. It may be a Canon utility, a printer-status monitor, or a startup item. Public records do not establish one particular Canon application that always loads this DLL.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Canon driver
This is the best first fix because printer-driver DLLs work as part of a package. Replacing one file does not recreate the driver registration, dependencies, print processor, services, or Windows printer association.
Remove the printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the Canon printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
- Disconnect the printer’s USB cable if it is connected.
For a network printer, removal only deletes the Windows printer association. It does not erase the driver package, so continue with the next section.
Remove Canon software
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for
Canon. - Uninstall the matching printer driver utilities, status monitors, and maintenance software.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove unrelated Canon camera or scanner software unless you have identified it as the source of the error. If the Canon printer is still listed after uninstalling the software, return to Printers & scanners and remove it.

Download the correct package
Use Canon’s official support portal. Search for the exact printer model, then select the installed Windows release and architecture shown by Canon.

A driver for a similar-looking printer may install successfully but still leave the old utility unable to load.
To check Windows architecture:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System > About.
- Read System type.
A 64-bit Windows installation may contain older 32-bit printer components, but that does not make arbitrary 32-bit DLL downloads safe. Use the package Canon provides for the selected printer and Windows version.
Run the downloaded installer as an administrator if necessary:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Show more options if present.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installer’s connection instructions.
- Reconnect the printer only when the installer requests it.
Restart Windows after installation. Then open Printers & scanners, select the Canon printer, and choose Print a test page. Also launch the Canon utility that previously produced the error. If both work without the message returning, the package repair succeeded.

Fix 2: Check for a stale startup entry
If you no longer own or use the Canon printer, reinstalling the driver may be unnecessary. Windows could be trying to launch an orphaned Canon monitor at sign-in.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for a Canon printer monitor or utility.
- Select it and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
If the error disappears, the startup entry was likely pointing to a removed Canon component. You can uninstall the related Canon software from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
For more detail:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
eventvwr.mscand press Enter. - Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time the message appeared.
- Note the executable or application name.
Do not delete random registry entries based only on the DLL filename. If the startup item cannot be identified safely, reinstalling the original Canon package and then removing it cleanly is safer.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove a driver file or block part of an installation. Do not disable antivirus protection just to obtain a replacement DLL.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any Canon-related detection and inspect its path and details.
Restore a quarantined file only when you recognize the Canon installation, the location is appropriate, and the file’s digital signature is trustworthy. The safer repair is usually to remove the incomplete package and reinstall it from Canon’s official support portal.

If the file is found in an unrelated download directory, a temporary folder, or a user profile location, do not assume it is legitimate merely because its name matches the missing file. Run a full Windows Security scan and investigate the program that attempted to load it.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows components are also malfunctioning, Windows Update is failing, or system files may have been damaged. They are not a guaranteed way to restore a third-party Canon DLL.

- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to complete successfully.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component source used by system-file repair, while SFC checks protected Windows files.
Restart when SFC finishes. If it reports that it repaired files, test the Canon application again. If it reports that it could not repair everything, repeat the Canon driver installation rather than copying cnb_0324.dll into a Windows folder.

Fix 5: Check Device Manager for driver leftovers
Device Manager can reveal a printer or USB device that Windows still sees as incomplete.

- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon device or a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only when you are removing the obsolete Canon driver.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current model-specific Canon package.
Do not uninstall unrelated chipset, storage, display, or audio devices. If the printer is shared over a network, the device may not appear under USB.
Windows Update can also supply printer drivers. If the problem began immediately after an update, install pending Windows updates, restart, and then install Canon’s current compatible package. Avoid forcing an older driver unless Canon specifically provides it for that printer and Windows release.

Downloading cnb_0324.dll from a random DLL repository can give you:
- The wrong printer-driver build.
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- A file with altered contents.
- A file missing its dependent modules.
- A version incompatible with the Canon utility or Windows print system.
Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can also create version conflicts and leave the driver store inconsistent. It does not repair the Canon printer registration.
A “specified module could not be found” message does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may have found the file but failed to load one of its dependencies. Reinstalling the complete driver package addresses that relationship.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
Do not routinely run:
regsvr32 cnb_0324.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the expected self-registration entry point. Printer-driver components are normally installed through the Canon package and Windows print-driver system. Forcing registration can produce an entry-point or architecture error and will not rebuild a missing printer installation.
Use the Canon installer instead. If a Canon support technician provides a specific registration command for a particular package, follow that package’s instructions rather than guessing.
When System Restore makes sense
System Restore is a fallback when the error began immediately after a known driver change and a suitable restore point exists.

rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Choose a restore point from before the Canon driver change.
- Review affected programs.
- Start the restore.
This does not replace the correct Canon installer and may remove other applications or updates installed after the selected restore point.
FAQ
Is cnb_0324.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
It is associated with a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver component. It should not be treated as a general Windows DLL. Whether it arrived through an older bundled driver package depends on the printer installation.
Is it a Visual C++ or DirectX file?
There is no reliable evidence connecting it to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Reinstalling those runtimes is not the normal fix.
Is cnb_0324.dll always 32-bit?

That information distinguishes a damaged driver from a stale startup entry or a broader Windows problem.
