“The program can’t start because igdumdim32.dll is missing from your computer.” The igdumdim32.dll error usually means an Intel graphics-driver installation is incomplete, damaged, mismatched, or blocked.
Which fix applies to you
- The error appeared after Windows Update, a driver update, or a rollback: reinstall the graphics driver, starting with the computer manufacturer’s package.
- The error appeared after antivirus action: check Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
- Only one older game or application fails: repair the Intel driver first, then verify or reinstall that application.
- The dialog says “not designed to run on Windows,” shows error
0xc000007b, or mentions an entry point: suspect architecture mismatch, incompatible driver files, or corruption. - The file exists but the program still crashes: do not copy another DLL over it. Check the file path, digital signature, related driver files, and Event Viewer.
- The issue began immediately after a system change: System Restore may be appropriate.
The safest general route is to reinstall the complete, architecture-matched Intel graphics package rather than downloading igdumdim32.dll separately.

What igdumdim32.dll is
igdumdim32.dll is an Intel user-mode graphics-driver component used by Windows graphics APIs and applications. Its file description is “User Mode Driver for Intel(R) Graphics Technology.” It belongs to Intel HD Graphics and related Intel Graphics Technology packages, not to the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX, .NET, or Windows as an independent runtime.
Intel graphics packages can contain both 32-bit and 64-bit components. The 32 in the filename identifies the 32-bit component. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit system components normally appear under:
#1 Best Overall
- Next-Gen Intel Arc Graphics: Powered by Intel Arc A580 GPU with Intel Xe HPG microarchitecture, featuring 384 XMX engines for enhanced AI acceleration and content creation.
- High-Performance Memory: 8GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit interface running at 16 Gbps, delivering excellent bandwidth for 1440p gaming and creative workloads.
- Factory Overclocked: Engine clock set at 2000 MHz out of the box, providing optimized performance for smooth gameplay and multimedia tasks.
- Advanced Dual-Fan Cooling: Features a dual-fan design with striped axial fans and an ultra-fit heatpipe for efficient thermal management. 0dB Silent Cooling stops fans completely at low temperatures for silent operation.
- Durable Construction: Includes a stylish metal backplate for enhanced PCB rigidity and a premium aesthetic, backed by ASRock's Super Alloy components for long-term reliability.
%WinDir%SysWOW64
Native 64-bit files normally appear under:
%WinDir%System32
That naming is counterintuitive, but it is normal Windows file-system behavior. Driver packages may also keep copies in a Windows DriverStore path similar to:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository
The exact active location varies by Windows version, Intel graphics generation, and OEM driver package. A known record for version 10.18.10.4276 is a genuine older 32-bit build, but it is not a universal current version.
Error messages and what they mean
You may see any of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because igdumdim32.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “igdumdim32.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading igdumdim32.dll.”
- “igdumdim32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in igdumdim32.dll.”
- “Cannot find igdumdim32.dll.”
- An application crash report naming
igdumdim32.dllas the faulting module.
A missing-file message usually points to an incomplete driver installation, quarantine, or damaged driver files. “Not designed to run on Windows,” 0xc000007b, and entry-point errors more often indicate incompatible architecture, mismatched Intel driver generations, or a damaged group of related files.
A crash naming this DLL does not prove that the DLL itself is defective. It may simply be the point where an application, old game, remote session, or graphics stack fault became visible.
Fix 1: Install the correct OEM Intel graphics driver
For laptops and branded desktop computers, use the manufacturer’s support page first. OEM graphics packages can include hardware-specific customizations, power settings, display behavior, and firmware assumptions that a generic Intel package does not include.
- Identify the exact computer model or service tag.
- Open the manufacturer’s support application or support page.
- Download the Intel graphics driver for your model and Windows version.
- Close games and graphics applications.
- Run the installer as administrator.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Launch the affected program again.
If the computer manufacturer no longer provides a suitable package, use Intel’s Driver & Support Assistant or its graphics-driver download process for the detected GPU. Do not select a driver merely because its version number is newer. Confirm that it supports the installed Intel graphics hardware.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through multiple hardware-driver pages: its free scan shows which drivers are stale, while the repair or driver installation is done by the full version. It is optional, and the OEM driver remains the preferred choice when the manufacturer has customized the graphics package.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →How to tell whether it worked
Open the application that produced the error. If it starts normally and Device Manager no longer shows a warning on the Intel graphics adapter, the driver repair addressed the likely cause.
If the error remains, continue with a clean installation rather than copying a loose DLL.
Fix 2: Perform a clean graphics-driver installation
Use this when a normal reinstall does not replace the damaged files, when Windows keeps restoring an incompatible driver, or when the error began after a failed rollback.

- Download the correct OEM or Intel graphics installer before removing the existing driver.
- Temporarily disconnect from the internet so Windows is less likely to install a different driver automatically.
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel graphics device and choose Uninstall device.
- Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device or Delete the driver software for this device, if offered.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
The display may temporarily use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. That is expected while the Intel package is absent.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Run the downloaded graphics-driver installer.
- Choose clean installation if the installer offers that option.
- Restart again.
- Reconnect the internet.
A clean installation removes old driver files and restores Intel graphics settings to defaults. If the computer manufacturer warns against using Intel’s generic package, return to the OEM installer.
Fix 3: Check Windows Update and Device Manager
Windows Update may have replaced a validated OEM driver, but it can also provide a compatible repair.
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install pending updates, including optional driver updates when they clearly refer to Intel graphics.
- Restart.
Then inspect Device Manager:
- Press Win + X > Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Double-click the Intel adapter.
- Read the Device status message under General.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider, date, and version.
- If Roll Back Driver is available and the problem started after an update, use it and restart.
Do not repeatedly switch between generic Intel and OEM packages without recording which one was installed. That can make it harder to identify an OEM compatibility problem.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when Windows component corruption is also suspected. They do not guarantee restoration of an Intel graphics-driver file, because SFC primarily repairs protected Windows components.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Intel graphics driver if
igdumdim32.dllis still missing.
DISM should run before SFC. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, do not download a replacement DLL. Review the result, restart, and focus on the complete graphics-driver package.
If repeating these commands without knowing what changed is becoming unproductive, Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual diagnosis easier: its free scan identifies reported Windows problems, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional and does not replace reinstalling the correct Intel driver.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine a driver component after an update or repair.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Review detections involving
igdumdim32.dll. - Check the original file path and detection name.
Restore a quarantined file only when its origin and digital signature are trusted. If the file came from the official OEM or Intel driver package, reinstalling that package is usually safer than restoring an isolated file. If the detection is unclear, leave the file quarantined and investigate the driver source.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after a graphics-driver update, application installation, or other system change.
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Recovery.
- Choose Open System Restore.
- Select a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Start the restore and restart Windows.
You can also press Win + R, enter:
rstrui.exe
and press Enter.
System Restore does not replace personal files, but it can undo driver and software changes. Afterward, avoid reinstalling the same problematic driver until you have confirmed which package is appropriate.
Fix 7: Repair the affected application or game
If the Intel driver is installed correctly and only one program fails, the application may have damaged files or an old compatibility problem.
Use the application’s launcher to find Verify, Scan and repair, or Repair files. If no repair option exists, uninstall and reinstall the application from its trusted installer.
Do not place igdumdim32.dll in the game folder as a substitute for driver repair. The application may need matching Intel libraries, INF metadata, catalogs, and hardware-specific components that a single DLL cannot provide.
Do not download or register the DLL manually
Random DLL download sites sites can provide malware, the wrong Intel generation, a mismatched architecture, or a file with missing dependencies. A 32-bit DLL copied into System32 is not automatically correct on 64-bit Windows, and a file copied from another computer may have a different build, language, or driver relationship.
Use the OEM driver package, Intel’s official driver resources, Windows Update, or Device Manager instead.

regsvr32 is also not the right repair. It registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly for ActiveX or COM components. A graphics-driver runtime DLL is loaded by the graphics stack and is not normally repaired by registering it. Running regsvr32 igdumdim32.dll may produce another error without fixing the driver.
Windows Features are not normally relevant either. Enabling or disabling .NET, DirectPlay, or other optional features will not restore an Intel graphics-driver component unless a separate error specifically identifies that feature.

Verify the file safely
If the file is present:
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab.
- Open Details and inspect the publisher and certificate.
- Record the full path.
- Compare the path with the installed Intel driver and DriverStore entries.
The filename alone is not proof that the file is safe. A file in an unexpected application folder, without a valid trusted signature, deserves further investigation rather than replacement.
If the error still remains
Collect these details before making more changes:
- Windows edition and build
- Intel GPU model
- Computer manufacturer and model
- Application or game name
- Complete error text and error code
- Intel driver version
- Full path of
igdumdim32.dll - Digital-signature status
- Event Viewer entry and faulting module
Open Event Viewer with Win + X > Event Viewer, then check Windows Logs > Application around the crash time.
Older Intel graphics hardware may require an archived OEM or Microsoft-provided driver rather than the newest Intel package. If every official reinstall fails, test with a new Windows user profile, check disk health, and contact the computer manufacturer. A persistent crash can involve hardware, a broader graphics-stack incompatibility, or an application defect.
FAQ
Is igdumdim32.dll a Windows file?
It is installed into Windows-managed driver locations, but it is an Intel graphics-driver component rather than a standalone Windows runtime file.
Is igdumdim32.dll malware?
Not by filename alone. Check its path, digital signature, and origin. A signed file from the installed Intel driver package is different from an unsigned copy found in an unrelated folder.
Do I need the 32-bit or 64-bit version?
The application and driver package must be compatible. Do not choose based only on the Windows edition or copy a 32-bit DLL into System32. Reinstall the complete matching graphics package.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWill Visual C++ Redistributable or DirectX fix it?
Usually not. Those packages are not the normal source of this Intel graphics-driver DLL. Repair them only when another error specifically identifies a missing runtime dependency.
Should I delete or rename igdumdim32.dll?
No. Deleting or renaming it can create additional graphics failures. Repair the Intel driver package instead.
Why does the error remain after reinstalling the game?
The game may be exposing a damaged or incompatible Intel driver. Repair the graphics driver first, then verify or reinstall the game if it is the only application still failing.
