cnb_0335.dll is a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver component, not a normal Windows system file. If Windows says it is missing, could not be loaded, or is not designed to run on Windows, the safest fix is to remove the damaged Canon printer software and reinstall the package for the exact printer model.
Do not download a loose copy of the DLL and place it in System32. A complete Canon driver installation also includes INF files, dependencies, services, registry entries, and the correct 32-bit or 64-bit components.

cnb_0335.dll at a glance
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| File | cnb_0335.dll |
| Category | Hardware driver component |
| Associated software | Canon Inkjet Printer Driver, often an MP Drivers package |
| Windows component | No evidence that it belongs to Windows itself |
| Exact printer models | Not established; do not assume every Canon printer uses it |
| Version and architecture | Public catalogs report a 32-bit copy and version 0.3.1536.1, but these are catalog details rather than a Canon-certified specification |
| Correct source | The Canon driver package for your exact printer model and Windows version |
The file is usually found on older Windows installations that contain Canon inkjet software. It is not a general-purpose Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime file, so installing one of those packages is not the primary repair.
Errors associated with cnb_0335.dll
Reported error variants include:
- “The program can’t start because cnb_0335.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cnb_0335.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading cnb_0335.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “cnb_0335.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library cnb_0335.dll.”
These messages do not all mean the same thing. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that the named DLL is missing, or that a dependency required by the DLL is missing. An invalid or mismatched Canon package can also produce a “not designed to run on Windows” message.

The problem commonly appears after an incomplete driver installation, a Windows upgrade, a Canon driver update, antivirus quarantine, cleanup software, or removal of the printer while an old Canon utility remains configured to start with Windows.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Canon printer package
This is the most likely fix. Identify the printer model first, then remove the old Canon software and reinstall the matching package.
1. Identify the printer
Check the label on the printer or open:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Note the exact Canon model name.
Do not use a driver for a similar model. Canon packages can share names while containing different files and installation rules.
2. Download the correct Canon driver
Open Canon’s official Support download page and search for the exact printer model. Select the Windows version installed on the computer and download the package usually labelled MP Drivers, Printer Driver, or a similar model-specific name.
Use the package supplied by Canon rather than a loose DLL. If Canon does not list a package for the current Windows version, check whether the printer supports a Windows class driver or an older supported Canon package before proceeding.
3. Remove the printer and Canon software
First remove the printer object:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
Then remove the related Canon applications:
- Return to Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Canon, MP Drivers, or the printer model.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the matching entry.
- Select Uninstall.
- Complete the uninstall wizard.
On Windows 10, use Settings > Apps > Apps & features if the menu is labelled differently. You can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and remove the Canon printer software there.
4. Restart and reinstall
Restart Windows after the uninstall finishes. Then run the Canon installer you downloaded.
Keep the printer disconnected by USB until the installer requests it. For a network printer, connect it only when the setup program asks you to select or configure the device. Restart again if the installer requests it.
Test the result by opening Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, selecting the Canon printer, and printing a test page. If the error no longer appears and the test page prints, the missing DLL was part of the damaged driver installation.
If the installer fails, disconnect the printer, restart Windows, remove the old driver package as described below, and run the Canon installer again.

Optional driver-update assistance
Finding the correct driver among old Canon packages can involve checking the model, Windows edition, architecture, and existing driver entries manually. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and identify update candidates; its free scan shows what it found, while the repair or driver installation requires the full version. For this specific file, the exact Canon installer remains the preferred source.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFix 2: Remove an old Canon driver package
Removing the printer from Settings does not always remove its driver package. Old Canon packages can remain in the Windows driver store and continue to be called by a startup utility or a new printer installation.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Select Print server properties from the toolbar. You may need to select an empty area of the window first.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the Canon driver associated with the affected printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that choice.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the correct Canon package.
Do not remove every Canon entry automatically. Multiple printers can share components, and deleting an unrelated package can create another printing problem.
For a driver-store check, open Command Prompt as administrator:
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
pnputil /enum-drivers
Review the listed providers and published names for Canon packages. pnputil is useful for inspecting and managing complete driver packages. It should not be used to install a loose DLL.
Recommended Free Tools
If you have a verified Canon INF package and know that it belongs to the exact printer, the supported command is:
pnputil /add-driver "C:PathToCanonDriver.inf" /install
Replace the path with the actual location of the Canon INF file. Do not point this command at cnb_0335.dll.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus protection may have removed a Canon driver file. Check before repeatedly reinstalling the same package.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined items.
- Select an item to see its path, detection, and action options.
Restore a file only if you can confirm that it came from a Canon installation package and its publisher or digital signature is trustworthy. Microsoft recommends allowing a quarantined item only when you are confident it is safe.

If the source is unclear, do not restore it. Remove the Canon software and reinstall it from Canon instead. If the DLL is located outside a Canon installation directory, scan it and verify its digital signature before treating it as genuine.
Fix 4: Update Windows and repair system components
Windows component corruption can interfere with driver installation, although DISM and SFC are not targeted tools for obtaining a Canon DLL.

- Seamless Multi-Page Handling - Tackle multi-page documents with ease using the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) for quick scanning and copying
First install pending updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then repair the Windows component store:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to complete. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands finish and retry the Canon installer.
The DISM command repairs the Windows image, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command guarantees restoration of a third-party Canon file. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the Canon driver cleanup and reinstall rather than copying cnb_0335.dll manually.

Fix 5: Check Device Manager for a broken printer
Device Manager may reveal that Windows still has an incomplete Canon device installation.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon printer, an unknown device, or a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected entry.
- Select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
If the device is clearly the affected Canon printer, right-click it and select Uninstall device. If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only when you have identified the correct Canon device. Restart Windows, then run the Canon installer again.
Do not uninstall unrelated audio, graphics, chipset, or USB devices merely because they have similar warning symbols.

If printing works but the error appears at every boot, an old Canon utility may still be starting after the printer or driver was removed.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for a Canon entry associated with the removed printer.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
You can also check Settings > Apps > Startup. Disable only the Canon item you have identified. Do not delete cnb_0335.dll first, because the startup entry may belong to a broader Canon package that should be uninstalled cleanly.
If the error disappears at startup but printing is still unavailable, reinstall the printer package rather than leaving a partially removed driver in place.
Fix 7: Use System Restore only as a last resort
System Restore can help when a recent driver update or Windows change caused the failure and a suitable restore point exists.

- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Select Finish.
System Restore changes system files, registry settings, and installed programs, but does not normally remove personal files. Use it only when the restore point is suitable and reinstalling the Canon driver has failed.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
A loose download can contain malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible version, or a modified file. Even an authentic-looking copy may not fix the missing dependency or damaged Canon installation that caused the message.
Use the Canon support page and the driver package for the exact printer instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
A 32-bit Canon component can be required on 64-bit Windows, and the names of System32 and SysWOW64 are counterintuitive. The correct location depends on the installer and the driver architecture. Let Canon’s installer place the file.
Do not run regsvr32 blindly
Do not run:
regsvr32 cnb_0335.dll
A printer-driver DLL is not automatically a self-registering COM or ActiveX library. regsvr32 works only when a DLL exposes the required registration entry point, such as DllRegisterServer. Otherwise it can produce an entry-point or “not self-registerable” error and will not repair the driver.
Frequently asked questions
Is cnb_0335.dll a Windows file?
No evidence shows that it is a standard Windows component. It is associated with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software, often installed through an MP Drivers package.
Does every Canon printer use this DLL?
No. The exact printer models using the file have not been established. Install the package for your own model instead of assuming that a file from another Canon printer is compatible.
Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?
Not as the primary fix. There is no reliable evidence tying this filename to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Rebuild the Canon printer driver first.
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found?
The named DLL may be missing, or one of its dependencies may be missing. A complete Canon driver reinstall addresses both possibilities more reliably than replacing one file.
Can a 32-bit DLL work on 64-bit Windows?
Yes, a 32-bit Canon component may be required by a 32-bit printer utility on 64-bit Windows. Do not choose a folder manually. Use the Canon installer that matches the printer and Windows version.
What if the Canon installer still fails?
Disconnect the printer, remove the printer object and related Canon software, remove the matching driver package from Print server properties, restart, install Windows updates, and retry the Canon package. If Canon provides no compatible package for the current Windows version, use a supported Windows class driver or Canon’s documented compatibility guidance.
What if the file keeps appearing outside a Canon folder?
Treat it cautiously. Verify its digital signature, scan it with Windows Security, and do not restore or execute it solely because its filename matches. A matching filename does not prove that the file is authentic.
