cnb_0339.dll is associated with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Canon driver for the exact printer model. Do not download a loose copy of cnb_0339.dll; the correct package depends on the printer, Windows version, and system architecture.
What this file actually does
Public file records identify cnb_0339.dll as a Canon printer-driver component developed by CANON INC. It is a hardware-driver DLL, not a general Windows runtime such as Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.

The exact Canon printer model that supplied this filename is not established. Canon distributes software by product model and operating system through its official Software and Drivers portal. Search for your printer model there rather than searching for the DLL itself.
The file may be stored inside a Canon driver installation or the Windows Driver Store. There is no safe universal instruction to place it in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or a printer application folder.

Public records also describe more than one possible variant, including both 32-bit and 64-bit records with different reported versions and sizes. Those records are not Canon documentation. The filename alone cannot tell you which architecture or package belongs on your computer.
Common messages include:
- “The program can’t start because cnb_0339.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “cnb_0339.dll was not found.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load CNB_0339.DLL.”
- “The file CNB_0339.DLL is missing or corrupt.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library cnb_0339.dll.”
- “cnb_0339.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
A message saying “the specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency used by the Canon DLL is missing. It does not always prove that the named file itself has been deleted.
Cause-by-symptom guide
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| Error appears after installing or updating a Canon printer | Incomplete or mismatched driver package | Remove the printer and reinstall the exact Canon package |
| Error begins after uninstalling a printer | Stale Canon software or driver remains | Remove the old printer and clean up its driver through Windows |
| File was detected or quarantined | Antivirus action or a damaged replacement | Check Protection History, then prefer a clean Canon reinstall |
| Error appears during startup with no printer connected | Stale Canon utility or startup entry | Identify and remove the old Canon software |
| Several Canon printers or old packages are installed | Conflicting driver versions | Remove unused devices and reinstall one matching package |
| Several Windows components also malfunction | Broader Windows corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Error began immediately after a driver change | Bad update or system-setting change | Use System Restore if an appropriate restore point exists |
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon printer driver
This is the most likely solution because cnb_0339.dll belongs to a Canon printer-driver package.
Before starting, note:
- The exact printer model shown on the device or in Windows.
- Whether you use Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- The complete error message.
- Any file path shown in the error.
To check the Windows architecture, open Settings > System > About and look at System type. A 64-bit Windows installation can still use a 32-bit Canon utility, so do not choose a package based only on the DLL filename.
Remove the printer
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices in Windows 11, or Devices in some Windows 10 layouts.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
If more than one Canon printer is listed, remove only devices you no longer use or the device associated with the error. Do not delete unrelated printers without checking their names.
Remove old Canon software if necessary
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10. Look for Canon printer software, utilities, or packages associated with the removed device. Uninstall only software you recognize as belonging to that printer.
Do not remove a Canon camera, scanner, or other device package merely because it contains the Canon name.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Download and install the replacement
- Open Canon’s official Software and Drivers portal.
- Search for the exact printer model.
- Select your Windows version.
- Select the applicable architecture when Canon offers that choice.
- Download the complete printer driver or setup package.
- Run the installer as an administrator if Windows requests permission.
- Follow the connection instructions for USB or network setup.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Print a test page from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your Canon printer > Printer properties.
Success means the Canon printer appears normally, the error no longer appears during startup or application launch, and a test page prints. If the installer says that a newer driver is already present, remove the old printer first and choose Replace the current driver if Windows presents that option during a deliberate repair.
When the error appears in a Canon utility rather than during printing, reinstall the utility together with the printer package. Installing a generic Windows printer driver may restore basic printing but may not restore scanning, maintenance, or Canon-specific features.
If manually identifying old packages, open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers, select Print server properties, and review the Drivers tab. Remove a driver only when you are certain it belongs to the obsolete Canon printer. Exact cleanup behavior varies by Windows version, so do not remove every Canon entry blindly.

If hunting through several driver versions is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its repair or driver installation requires the full version, and the exact Canon package remains the definitive fix for this printer-specific DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A security product can quarantine a driver file after an update, cleanup operation, or false positive. Do not restore the file automatically.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Open any recent event connected with Canon software or
cnb_0339.dll. - Review the detected file path and action.
Microsoft explains the available actions in its Protection History documentation. Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- It came from the Canon installer or a plausible Canon driver directory.
- The printer model and driver package match your computer.
- The file has a valid, plausible digital signature where one is expected.
- Your security software does not identify it as an active threat.
A safer approach is usually to remove the incomplete Canon installation and reinstall it from Canon. If the file is outside a Canon driver directory, scan it before taking any action.
For a broader concern, open Virus & threat protection > Scan options and run a Full scan. If suspicious behavior continues, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan. Do not add the DLL to an antivirus exclusion merely to suppress the error.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and SFC are useful when Windows has broader corruption, update failures, or damaged protected system files. They are not guaranteed to restore a third-party Canon driver DLL.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
DISM success means the operation completes without an unrepaired error. SFC may report that it found no integrity violations, repaired corrupted files, or found corruption it could not repair. Restart Windows after either repair and test the printer again.
If SFC reports repairs but cnb_0339.dll is still missing, reinstall the Canon driver. SFC normally repairs protected Windows files, not every file delivered by a printer manufacturer.
If repeating DISM and SFC is becoming guesswork, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what needs attention; its repair work requires the full version, and it does not replace the Canon package reinstall when the missing file is printer-specific.
Fix 4: Use System Restore after a recent driver change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a Canon driver update, printer removal, or other system change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error started.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
Microsoft describes the feature in its System Restore documentation. System Restore normally does not remove personal files, but it can reverse drivers, applications, and system settings installed after the selected restore point.

Fix 5: Check the driver in Device Manager
Device Manager can reveal a failed printer driver, although it may not show cnb_0339.dll by name.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, where present, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon printer or a device with a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the message under the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab to view the provider, date, and version.
- Use Update Driver only when you already have the correct Canon package or Windows can find an appropriate driver.
- If the driver is clearly damaged, select Uninstall Device, restart, and reinstall the Canon package.
Do not assume that the newest generic driver is correct. Printer features often depend on a model-specific package.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is for registering DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general command for replacing, repairing, or locating missing DLLs.
There is no verified evidence that cnb_0339.dll should be registered manually. Running:
Recommended Free Tools
regsvr32 cnb_0339.dll
may produce an error stating that the module loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. Even if the command completes, it does not repair a missing Canon driver installation.
Do not copy a downloaded DLL into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder. That can create an architecture mismatch, bypass driver installation metadata, and introduce an untrusted file.
Windows Features are also not the normal repair path. Do not enable or disable .NET, legacy components, or media features just because a Canon DLL error appears. Those features do not supply this printer-driver file.
32-bit, 64-bit, and legacy-driver problems
The filename is insufficient to select a package. A reported 32-bit variant and a separate 64-bit record both exist in public file databases, but those records are not authoritative Canon specifications.
Use the Canon installer matched to:
- Your exact printer model.
- Your Windows release.
- The architecture offered for that package.
- The connection method, if the installer distinguishes USB and network setup.
An old printer may not have a current Canon package for your Windows version. In that case, use Windows’ built-in printer class driver where it supports the model, or consult Canon’s model-specific compatibility information. Basic printing may work while scanning or maintenance features remain unavailable.

FAQ
Is cnb_0339.dll a Windows file?
No evidence identifies it as a general Windows component. Public records associate it with Canon Inkjet Printer Driver software.
Does every Canon printer use it?
That is not established. The exact printer model and official package containing this filename are not publicly confirmed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I put it in System32 or SysWOW64?
No. Install the complete Canon package instead. The correct location depends on the driver and architecture.
Will Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
Usually not. This is identified as a Canon printer-driver DLL, not one of those runtime components.
Can SFC restore it?
SFC repairs protected Windows files. It may help with broader system corruption but should not be expected to restore a missing third-party Canon driver file.
Is the file malware?
The filename alone does not prove that. Verify the location, signature, antivirus result, and Canon installation source. A file outside a Canon driver directory deserves a security scan.
