If CODE VEIN II crashes or returns to the Steam library on your Steam Deck, start with SteamOS and game updates, then verify the files and test Proton settings one at a time. Steam currently labels the game Unsupported for Steam Deck, so these are general troubleshooting checks—not seven confirmed, game-specific fixes or a promise that the game will run.
What Steam Deck compatibility means for CODE VEIN II
Steam’s CODE VEIN II listing marks the game Unsupported. Valve’s Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide uses that label for games it does not currently consider playable on Deck; it is a compatibility warning, not a diagnosis of why a particular session crashes. SteamDB also labels the game Unsupported and recommends Proton stable in its configuration record, tested August 25, 2026, but that third-party information is not a Valve guarantee: SteamDB’s CODE VEIN II configuration.
The listed PC requirements are for Windows, not Steam Deck. Steam specifies Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, 70 GB of storage, and a GTX 1660 Super, RX 5700, or Intel Arc B570 as minimum graphics hardware; its minimum-spec estimate is 1080p at 30 fps on Low. Those figures do not establish Deck performance or compatibility.
Try these seven checks in order
After each step, launch the game and see whether anything changed. Change one thing at a time, and note whether the game closes to the library, freezes the whole Deck, or causes a reboot. Valve’s recommendations are general Steam Deck troubleshooting, not CODE VEIN II-specific tested fixes.

Update SteamOS and restart
Install any available SteamOS update, then restart the Deck before launching the game again. Valve recommends updating and restarting when troubleshooting system instability. See the Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide.

Install the latest game update
Check for a CODE VEIN II update in Steam and install it. Bandai Namco’s official news page lists Ver. 2.0.3, dated September 24, 2026, as the newest update at the time reflected by that page, and tells players to install the latest update before playing. Update availability can change, so use Steam’s current download status rather than assuming that version remains the latest.

Verify the installed game files
In Steam, open the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Steam’s failed-launch guidance includes file verification. If Steam finds files that need replacement, it may need to download them again.

Test the latest Proton version
Open the game’s Properties and go to Compatibility. Enable the option to force a Steam Play compatibility tool and choose the latest Proton version available. Valve recommends trying the latest version for Steam apps, while SteamDB’s configuration record recommends Proton stable; neither establishes a confirmed CODE VEIN II crash fix. If you already use the latest version, one comparison with another official Proton option can be a diagnostic test for a possible regression, not a guaranteed remedy. Close third-party apps and overlays
Exit non-essential third-party applications or overlays installed through Desktop Mode, then restart the Deck and try again. Valve recommends disabling or exiting such applications when Steam apps are unstable; see its Steam Deck troubleshooting guidance.

Lower graphics settings
Reduce the graphics preset or individual settings, then check whether the game becomes more stable. Valve suggests lowering graphics load as a general troubleshooting measure. It may help if instability is related to performance, but it does not address every possible compatibility issue or game bug. Steam’s 1080p/30 fps estimate applies to minimum Windows PC specifications, not to the Deck.

Report persistent crashes with useful details
If the game still fails, contact Steam Support or Bandai Namco through its official CODE VEIN II site. Include your Deck model, SteamOS and game versions, Proton choice, whether the game is installed internally or on a card, when the crash happens, and whether the game alone closes or the Deck freezes or reboots. These details help distinguish a game launch failure from a device-level problem.
What the available fixes do—and do not—show
The steps above are a sensible sequence of reversible checks: updates and closing apps are low-effort first moves; file verification checks the installation; Proton selection tests compatibility; and lower settings reduce rendering load. There is no authoritative evidence here of a specific CODE VEIN II Steam Deck crash signature, a Proton version proven to fix it, or a reliable crash rate. Avoid treating any step as a guaranteed solution.

Bandai Namco’s older Ver. 1.0.7 patch notes describe changes related to loading and stutter, including collision data, enemy initialization and spawning, partner outfits, certain attack effects, and motorcycle stutter. They do not establish that a later update fixes Steam Deck crashes. The notes also do not justify assuming that a current crash is caused by those issues.
As a first response, avoid factory-resetting the Deck, deleting the game’s Proton prefix, or installing community patches. The official guidance cited above does not establish those as safe, title-specific crash remedies.
