If a co-op guest joins your Conan Exiles session and appears to control the host’s character, that symptom was reported on PS4 in April 2021. Funcom’s community response at the time said it was investigating related co-op issues around update 2.3. That historical report does not establish whether the problem affects the current build or whether it was later fixed. First determine whether the problem is your PS4 connection, online server access, or only a guest joining a local single-player/co-op session.
Is the PS4 co-op control bug a known issue?
A PS4 player reported on April 21, 2021, that a friend joined successfully but “joins playing as me,” while the host was left with a “floating/frozen screen.” In the same discussion, a Funcom community response said it was aware of “a couple of issues introduced with 2.3 regarding the coop mode” and was looking into them. Read the dated Funcom forum thread.
This confirms that the symptom was reported and that Funcom acknowledged related issues at that time. It does not show how common the issue is now, whether it remains in the current PS4 build, or whether a fix was released. Phrases such as “guest joins playing as me,” “co-op not allowing friends to join,” and “co-op broken after update” describe player reports, not evidence of current prevalence.
First identify which kind of connection is failing
Conan Exiles distinguishes single-player/co-op sessions from online play. Use this triage to narrow down where the failure occurs; it is a practical way to organize checks, not a diagnosis confirmed by Funcom. The Funcom Technical Manual, version 1.6, revised September 15, 2020, describes the modes separately.

- PS4 internet access fails: Start with the console’s network setup and connection test.
- PS4 internet works, but other online features do not: Check the console connection and software before treating this as a Conan Exiles co-op bug.
- Other online features work, but Conan Exiles online servers do not: Note whether you are trying to access an Official or private server; the reporting route differs.
- Online servers work, but a guest joining your local session triggers the problem: Record the co-op steps and the exact control behavior so it can be reported as a game-session bug.
Check the PS4 connection and system software
- On PS4, open Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection and follow the prompts for your connection. PlayStation’s connectivity support covers Wi-Fi setup and notes that the latest system software is required for online features.
- Run the PS4’s internet connection test and note whether it succeeds. Funcom’s May 28, 2021, connection troubleshooting post recommends testing the connection and, if practical, comparing it with a wired connection.
- If you can, try the same game activity after the connection check. A wired comparison may help isolate a general network problem, but Funcom’s guidance does not say that using a cable fixes a co-op control takeover.
Document a guest-join or control takeover bug
When the issue occurs only as another player joins, record enough detail for someone else to reproduce it. Funcom’s PS4 bug report guidelines ask players to post in the correct platform section and provide information that helps reproduce the problem; screenshots or video can help when available.
- Which player hosted, and which player joined?
- Was this a single-player/co-op session or an online server?
- What region and approximate time did it happen?
- What exact steps did each player take to join?
- Did the guest control the host’s character, and what did the host see?
- Could both players reproduce the problem, and did it happen again after leaving and rejoining?
Report the issue to the right place
Choose the channel based on where the failure occurs, not just the fact that it happened while playing with another person.

Local co-op and online servers are different play arrangements
A local single-player/co-op session and an online server have different hosting arrangements, so the useful first question is whether the guest-join symptom appears only in the local session or also when accessing online play. The available Funcom materials provide separate support routes for PlayStation game bugs, Official servers, and privately administered servers; they do not establish that changing server type improves control behavior or connection reliability.
Funcom’s 2018 FAQ said console split-screen co-op was not planned. That is a dated statement, not confirmation of current plans. The same FAQ mentioned PS4 private-server rental through G-Portal, but renting a server is a hosting option—not a demonstrated fix for a control bug or connectivity trouble.
