Dylan May Cry, a free player-made overhaul for Remedy’s CONTROL Resonant, turns the game’s attacks and abilities into configurable character-action strings. Version 0.8.0, updated 15 October 2026, adds its biggest feature yet: Trick, a set of Devil May Cry-inspired teleport inputs that let Dylan close distance, escape downward or launch himself upward during combat.
The comparison to Capcom’s series is useful at the level of input design and movement, not as proof that the mod reproduces Devil May Cry’s complete combat system. Its documented strengths are six-input custom strings, directional motion inputs, lock-on teleports, frame information and a training room.

What is CONTROL Resonant?
CONTROL Resonant is Remedy Entertainment’s action-adventure/action-RPG starring Dylan Faden. Remedy describes it as a fight for Dylan’s humanity and survival against a reality-bending cosmic threat. The game launched on 24 September 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store; a Mac version is planned for later in 2026 through Steam and the App Store, and the game is listed for GeForce NOW.
PlayStation’s description places Dylan after years of confinement by the Federal Bureau of Control in a warped Manhattan. Steam highlights gravity anomalies that distort both vertical and horizontal space, making positioning a central combat decision. Remedy announced a standard-edition price of €59.99, £49.99 or $59.99 in 2026; regional pricing and later retail prices can differ.

What the Dylan May Cry mod adds
The Nexus Mods release is version 0.8.0 by atomicbentobox. Its core system lets you assign light and heavy inputs to attacks and build strings of up to six presses. A string can finish with another weapon hit, a dodge attack, a heavy finisher, a light finisher or a combat ability. The system can swap weapons as needed and can optionally cut an attack as soon as the swing connects. Controller and keyboard input are supported.
Trick teleports in version 0.8.0
The update adds three movement options. The exact conditions matter: each one uses a modifier-and-dodge combination or a directional motion, and two require Dylan to be airborne.

- WORLD WITHIN A LOCATION -- Explore diverse environments and shifting architecture in a deep unpredictable world, set within a sprawling New York building.
- FLEXIBLE AND SUPERNATURAL COMBAT SYSTEM -- Define your playstyle by integrating supernatural abilities, upgrades, and modifiable loadouts.
- REACTIVE ENVIRONMENTS -- Harness dynamic environmental destruction for exciting combat possibilities and master complex rituals to alter your surroundings.
- REALITY MEETS THE UNEXPLAINABLE -- Dive into a dark and brutalist-inspired world where daily reality has been corrupted by an otherworldly force.
| Move | Input and state | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Air Trick | While locked on, hold the modifier key and press dodge. | Dylan teleports directly to the targeted enemy. |
| Trick Down | On the ground, perform a back-to-forward motion and press dodge. In the air, use the same motion and dodge. | On the ground Dylan teleports backward; in the air he teleports down to the ground. |
| Trick Up | While airborne and not locked on, hold the modifier key and press dodge. | Dylan teleports upward. It is disabled by default and must be enabled in settings. |
The creator’s announcement describes the update as bringing DMC-style Trick movement to CONTROL Resonant, with motion inputs and Hold Lock-on. That is a creator description of the implementation; the mod documentation is the source for the individual move conditions above.

- Install the required f2g DLL Mod Loader, which the mod lists as a prerequisite.
- Place the mod’s
crmodsfolder in your CONTROL Resonant installation directory, following the author’s installation instructions. - Launch the game and open the mod settings. Enable Trick Up if you want the upward teleport; it is off by default.
- Turn on Hold Lock-on when you want lock-on to persist while you perform motion inputs and dodge commands.
- Lock onto an enemy and practice Air Trick first: hold the modifier and press dodge to appear at the target.
- Test Trick Down from both states. On the ground it is an evasive backward teleport; in the air it returns Dylan to the floor.
- For Trick Up, leave lock-on and jump or launch Dylan into the air before using the modifier-plus-dodge input.
The mod’s input design means the same movement tool can be inserted between attacks rather than treated as a separate traversal action. Timing still depends on the game’s existing animation and dodge windows, so use the training tools before attempting long strings in a normal encounter.

Combo construction and practice tools
Dylan May Cry is more than a teleport add-on. Its configurable string editor lets you decide how light and heavy attacks flow, then route the sequence into a finisher, dodge attack or ability. Attack-cancel behavior is optional: when enabled, a swing can be cut as soon as it lands, allowing the next command to begin earlier.
| Tool | What it does | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Six-press strings | Build sequences from light and heavy inputs. | Creates repeatable routes instead of relying only on the base game’s fixed attack order. |
| Weapon swapping | Changes weapons inside a configured sequence. | Lets a route combine different attack types without stopping to reselect a weapon. |
| Attack cancelling | Optionally ends a swing when it connects. | Provides tighter transitions for players who want faster execution. |
| Combo History | Records the commands used in a sequence. | Makes failed or successful routes easy to inspect and reproduce. |
| Frame meter | Displays Street Fighter-style timing information. | Helps players study spacing and input windows rather than guessing. |
| Training dummy | Provides a practice target that can be made unable to die. | Allows extended testing without resetting a fight. |
| Shareable presets | Saves and shares configurations. | Useful for trying another player’s routes or maintaining separate builds. |
Is Dylan May Cry based on Devil May Cry 5?
It is Devil May Cry-inspired. Atomicbentobox has said that Devil May Cry 5 was the basis for the implementation, and the mod adopts the names and motion concepts of Trick. That establishes an influence, not a one-to-one conversion of Capcom’s combat engine.

| Comparison axis | Dylan May Cry | CONTROL Resonant without the mod |
|---|---|---|
| Input expression | Up to six configurable light/heavy presses, optional attack cancelling and directional motion inputs. | Official materials emphasize Dylan’s evolving powers, the shapeshifting Aberrant and gravity-bending combat spaces rather than user-authored strings. |
| Mobility | Air Trick, Trick Down and Trick Up reposition Dylan through lock-on and motion-based commands. | Movement is shaped by the base game’s dodge, powers and distorted vertical and horizontal spaces. |
| Practice and optimization | Combo History, frame data, an invulnerable training dummy and shareable presets. | No equivalent mod-added practice layer is documented here. |
Those are feature-level comparisons. The available documentation does not establish that the mod matches Devil May Cry’s enemy roster, ranking system, animation quality, balance or overall combat depth, and there is no controlled performance comparison showing that it surpasses the series.
