Cooler Master’s shark-themed PC is real. Called the Shark X, it began as a 2019 case mod named “Leviathan,” became a CES 2023 prototype, and eventually reached the market as an extraordinary Mini-ITX desktop—and, according to March 2026 reporting, a standalone product in the U.S.
Its appeal is obvious: a roughly one-meter-tall shark with RGB lighting, visible PC hardware and a custom internal layout. Its value is less straightforward. The reported $6,999.99 pre-built launch price—and later $5,499.99 U.S. standalone price—buys a design object and collector piece first, and conventional gaming-PC hardware second.

From “Leviathan” to Shark X
The Shark X was not invented from scratch for CES 2023. Its design lineage reaches back to Inony’s shark-shaped “Leviathan” case mod, which appeared in Cooler Master’s 2019 Case Mod World Series. Cooler Master later developed that showpiece into a manufacturable product as part of its “Be Different” concept range.

Cooler Master displayed the commercial Shark X at CES 2023, when it was still a planned product with no established final retail specification or price. The company formally announced the finished pre-built system in September 2024. The multi-year timeline matters: early CES reports described a prototype and should not be treated as a definitive guide to the final retail configuration.

What is the Shark X?
The Shark X is more than an empty novelty case in its pre-built form. It is a complete, upgradeable-in-principle Mini-ITX desktop built into a large shark-shaped chassis. The shark rises from a hexagonal RGB base, with lighting integrated into the base, head, eyes and other design elements. The exterior uses plastic and steel, while the body, head, fin and base dictate a highly unusual internal arrangement.
The design leaves some hardware visually exposed or framed as part of the sculpture. A graphics card is mounted through a PCIe 4.0 riser cable, while the motherboard, power supply and liquid-cooling hardware are distributed through the shark’s body. The result looks less like a decorated tower than a piece of PC-themed industrial art that happens to contain a working computer.

| Power supply | Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold |
| Graphics connection | PCIe 4.0 x16 riser cable |
| Case fans | Coverage referenced SickleFlow or MF120 Halo 120mm fans, depending on the cited configuration material |
These small differences are worth preserving rather than silently combining into one supposedly universal specification. RAM speed, fan naming and some physical-clearance figures vary between launch materials. Consult the exact listing and manual for the unit being purchased.
How large is this shark?
Reported pre-built dimensions are approximately 790 × 908 × 894mm, or about 31.1 × 35.75 × 35.2 inches. Cooler Master has also described the product as approximately one meter tall. The exact presentation of the dimensions can make different sides appear to be the “height,” but the practical point is the same: this is much larger than a normal desktop tower.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore buying, measure more than the spot where the PC will stand:
- Desk width, depth and overhead clearance
- Doorways, stairwells and elevators
- Access for the shipping box
- Room around radiator, fan and GPU openings
- Cable-routing space behind or beside the base
- A safe path for moving or returning the unit
A roughly one-meter-tall PC can be difficult to deliver, reposition and service even when the available desk area appears large enough.
Case or complete PC?
The answer depends on the date and product version. CES 2023 coverage discussed a planned full system but did not establish its final price or component list. Cooler Master’s September 2024 announcement presented the Shark X as a pre-built PC. In March 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported that a standalone Shark X product was reaching the U.S. at $5,499.99.

Do not assume that a listing called “Shark X” includes the i7-14700F, RTX 4070 Ti Super or any other specific component. Confirm whether it is a complete system, an empty chassis or a bundle, and check regional stock and return terms before ordering.
Upgradeability comes with serious qualifications
Cooler Master describes the Shark X as upgradeable, but that does not mean it offers the flexibility of a conventional ATX tower. The platform is built around Mini-ITX hardware and an SFX power supply, immediately narrowing the pool of compatible replacement parts.
Potential upgrades must also account for:
- GPU length, height, thickness and power-connector orientation
- The custom PCIe riser-cable route
- Radiator and fan dimensions
- Clearance around the shark’s body and base
- Limited motherboard and storage expansion compared with standard towers
- The amount of disassembly required to reach internal components
Early reports gave graphics-card clearance figures around 330–335mm, but that is not a guarantee that every card below that length will fit. Thickness, cable placement and cooling access can be just as important. Check the exact manual and compatibility information before buying a replacement GPU, cooler, motherboard or power supply. Compatibility may also differ between the pre-built and standalone versions.
Cooling and maintenance questions
The launch configuration uses a 120mm liquid cooler and 120mm fans, but the cited coverage does not provide a complete independent thermal or acoustic review. There are therefore no responsible grounds to promise particular temperatures, noise levels or sustained performance.
The chassis raises practical questions that matter more than its novelty:

- Where does the 120mm radiator exhaust heat?
- Do the enclosed body sections restrict intake?
- How easily can dust be removed from the base and internal channels?
- Can the radiator and fans be replaced with standard parts?
- How accessible are the motherboard, GPU and riser cable?
- Does the unusual mounting angle complicate cable service or transport?
The large exterior footprint does not necessarily translate into generous usable internal volume. The shark’s shape prioritizes appearance and custom routing, so routine cleaning and component replacement may be more involved than they are in a normal case.
What performance should buyers expect?
The i7-14700F and RTX 4070 Ti Super form a capable gaming combination, but the Shark X should not be called a flagship gaming PC simply because it costs flagship money. Performance will vary by game, resolution, ray-tracing settings, DLSS and frame-generation support, drivers, power limits and thermals.
The internal hardware was upper-midrange to enthusiast-class at launch, not the fastest hardware available. The premium is primarily attached to the chassis, manufacturing, integrated lighting, custom engineering and rarity—not to unusually high frames-per-dollar.

| Date | Product and reported price |
|---|---|
| January 2023 | Prototype-era coverage; price not disclosed |
| September 2024 | Pre-built launch/pre-order price of approximately $6,999.99 |
| March 2026 | U.S. standalone product reported at $5,499.99 |
Compared with the cost of the CPU, GPU, memory, SSD and supporting hardware, the pre-built price was difficult to justify as a conventional gaming system. That criticism is fair—but it is also incomplete.

The buyer is paying for a bespoke, large-scale design; custom manufacturing; integrated RGB lighting; a commercial product derived from a notable case mod; and collector or display value. The Shark X is best understood as a luxury design object that happens to be a functioning PC, not as a price-optimized gaming desktop.
Who should buy it?
It makes sense for
- PC and case-mod collectors
- Cooler Master enthusiasts
- Streamers, studios, venues or offices wanting a display centerpiece
- Buyers who prioritize visual design and rarity over price/performance
- Owners prepared to verify space, delivery, servicing and upgrade constraints
It is a poor fit for
- Gamers seeking maximum FPS per dollar
- People who regularly replace GPUs or motherboards
- Small rooms or desks
- Users who prioritize quiet operation and simple maintenance
- Builders wanting broad ATX compatibility
- Anyone assuming a $5,500–$7,000 computer must contain current flagship hardware
Verdict
Cooler Master succeeded at the difficult part: it turned a memorable community case mod into a real, commercial shark-shaped PC. The Shark X is a remarkable piece of PC design, and its scale, lighting and exposed-looking hardware give it genuine display appeal.
It is not a rational purchase for a conventional gaming-PC shopper. Mini-ITX and SFX constraints, unusual maintenance, transport challenges and uncertain upgrade paths all come with the design. The hardware is capable, but the price is dominated by the shark itself.
Recommended Free Tools
Buy the Shark X if the object, story and rarity are the point. If gaming performance, serviceability and value are the point, a conventional Mini-ITX build or pre-built system is the better choice.
See Cooler Master’s official Shark X product information before making a purchase, and verify the current regional listing rather than relying on either historical price.
