If Core Keeper closes unexpectedly or freezes on Nintendo Switch, restart the console first, then update the system and game. After each step, reopen the game and return to the point where the problem occurred. Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance applies to Switch software generally; it does not establish a specific cause or confirmed fix for Core Keeper.

Work through the basic checks first

Follow these steps in order, testing the same part of your game after each one. Menu labels and update availability can vary by region, so use the options shown on your console rather than relying on a version number.

  1. Restart the Switch. Hold the POWER Button for three seconds, choose Power Options, then Restart. If the console is unresponsive, hold POWER for twelve seconds to force it off, then turn it on again. Nintendo’s unexpected-closure troubleshooting recommends restarting as an initial step.
  2. Update the system. Open System Settings and check for a system update. Nintendo advises making sure the console has the latest system software before continuing.
  3. Update Core Keeper. On the HOME Menu, highlight the game without launching it, press + or −, select Software Update, then Via the Internet.

Check the game data, then reinstall if needed

Check for corrupt data

Use the Switch’s software data-check procedure for Core Keeper. If the console reports corrupt data, follow Nintendo’s on-screen instructions to repair or redownload the software. This checks the downloaded game files; it is not the same as deleting saved progress.

Try a fresh installation in system memory

If the basic checks do not help, Nintendo’s crash guidance recommends deleting the problematic software and redownloading it to system memory. If a microSD card is inserted, remove it before redownloading. Nintendo states that game save data is stored in system memory, separately from downloaded software data. Follow the console’s prompts carefully and do not treat deleting the game software as deleting a save.

If Core Keeper is installed on a microSD card

A card can be isolated as a possible factor, but the available Nintendo guidance is general troubleshooting—not evidence that microSD cards cause Core Keeper crashes.

  • Remove the card and install or redownload the game to system memory, then retry the same point in play.
  • If the problem continues and the game had been running from microSD, Nintendo’s downloaded-software guidance also lists formatting or replacing the card as possible troubleshooting steps. Formatting erases data on the card, so back up anything you need and follow Nintendo’s current instructions before proceeding.
  • A replacement card is not a guaranteed repair. You do not need to buy one to try the earlier steps.

Save the error details before contacting support

Open System Settings → Support/Health & Safety → Error History, then select the relevant entry. Nintendo says the console retains the ten most recent errors; a selected record can include error, network, software, and system information. Record the displayed error and the software and system context so you can provide them to support.

Use factory-reset options only as a late escalation

Nintendo’s unexpected-closure instructions list restoring factory settings without deleting save data after the earlier troubleshooting and reinstall steps. Treat this as a last resort, follow Nintendo’s current instructions carefully, and contact Nintendo Support if the crash persists. Nintendo says, “If the issue persists, please contact us for support.”

What these steps can—and cannot—tell you

These actions follow Nintendo’s general guidance for software that closes unexpectedly or has downloaded-software problems. They can help isolate a system, software-data, or storage-path issue, but none is a confirmed Core Keeper-specific crash fix. The available official sources do not establish a particular cause, such as world size or multiplayer, or confirm that a particular update resolves the issue.
