How to check CS2 server status

Check a CS2-specific status dashboard. SteamPoweredTools’ CS2 status page reports game services, matchmaking scheduler status, and regional datacenter information. Its operator says the information comes from Valve’s CS2 status endpoint and is cached for 60 seconds. The page is an unofficial third-party tool, not a Valve-operated status page.

Check Steam’s broader service status. Steam Support advises checking Steam Server Status when a connection problem might be caused by system-wide downtime. This helps distinguish a broader Steam issue from a problem limited to CS2.

Compare the scope of the problem. If the CS2 dashboard shows a service or matchmaking issue, wait briefly and check again. If the indicators look normal but only you—or a small number of players—cannot connect, investigate the local connection rather than assuming Valve’s servers are down.

Try basic network checks. Steam Support recommends testing your router, trying a wired connection to help isolate wireless or powerline instability, and checking firewall settings. Review other software that could interfere with Steam as well.
What a CS2 status dashboard can tell you
The SteamPoweredTools dashboard presents several kinds of indicators: service state, matchmaking scheduler state, online server and player counts, queue size, average search time, and regional datacenter capacity or load. These are changing operational readings, not durable statistics. A dashboard can help show whether an issue looks broad or concentrated in a region, but it is not a guarantee that a particular player can connect.

Capacity and load are different: available capacity is not the same as current load. Read the dashboard’s labels in context, and avoid treating a single counter or snapshot as proof that matchmaking will work for everyone.
Official matchmaking and community servers are separate checks
A CS2 matchmaking status indicator does not establish whether a separately operated community server is online or reachable from your connection. If you cannot join one community server while official matchmaking appears normal, treat that as a server-specific or connection-specific issue; the status indicators described above do not verify that individual server.

How to interpret “CS2 is up”

A reported CS2 service or matchmaking problem is a reason to wait and recheck the dashboard.

A Steam-wide service issue may affect access beyond CS2, so consult Steam’s status information too.

Normal-looking status pages do not rule out an ISP, router, firewall, or network-route problem affecting an individual player.

A community-server connection failure is not answered by official matchmaking status alone.
