Prepare Java and an isolated server folder
Install and verify 64-bit Java 21
Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime on the machine that will host the server. NeoForged’s getting-started documentation explicitly calls for a Java 21 Development Kit and a 64-bit Java Virtual Machine for the 1.21.1 line. A 32-bit runtime, an older Java release, or a launcher-only Java installation can cause the installer or the game process to fail before any mods load.

Open a terminal or command prompt and run java -version. Confirm that the reported major version is 21. Also verify that the Java installation is 64-bit using your operating system’s Java information or package manager; the version number alone does not prove the architecture. If more than one Java installation is present, use the path to the Java 21 executable explicitly when launching the installer and server.
Create a clean working directory
Create a new directory used only by this server, such as a folder named CrazyTown-S3-Server. Keep the directory outside a game-launcher instance so the server’s libraries, configuration, world, logs, and run scripts remain together. Do not extract the pack over an older world or merge it with files from another Minecraft version or loader.
- Give the account running the server read and write permission to the directory.
- Leave enough free storage for the 206.3 MB archive, extracted libraries, generated world data, logs, backups, and future updates.
- Record the exact pack filename and revision in your notes so you can identify the same build when helping friends connect.
Download and extract the correct CrazyTown server pack
Choose the server artifact, not the client archive
In the CrazyTown Season 3 project’s CurseForge files, select the entry identified as the server pack for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. The listed file is CrazyTown - Modpack Officiel-0.2.zip, uploaded June 30, 2025. A client modpack ZIP may be smaller and may omit server libraries, launch scripts, or server-specific configuration; it is not automatically a complete dedicated-server distribution.
Extract without changing the layout
- Download the server-pack ZIP into a temporary location.
- Check that the filename and Minecraft/NeoForge compatibility match the entry above.
- Extract the archive into the empty server directory.
- Keep every supplied folder and file in its relative position. Do not rename configuration directories or move mods into a different level of the tree.
If your archive utility creates an extra top-level folder, open it and confirm that the pack’s files—not another ZIP—are what you will use as the server directory. Do not combine this extraction with a different CrazyTown revision, a 1.20.x installation, or a Forge/Fabric server.
Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1

java -jar <installer>.jar --installServerReplace <installer>.jar with the actual installer filename. If your system has several Java versions, substitute the full path to the 64-bit Java 21 executable for java. A successful installation creates NeoForge libraries and a generated run script in the server directory. The exact script name depends on the operating system; use the supplied Windows batch script on Windows or shell script on Linux and similar systems.
Run the generated script rather than inventing a new classpath command. NeoForge’s documented flow is designed to assemble the libraries and arguments correctly. The first launch may stop before opening the world because the server has created an EULA file and needs your confirmation.
Accept the EULA and complete the first launch
- Start the generated NeoForge server script once.
- When the process stops, open
eula.txtin the server directory. - Read the Minecraft EULA and, if you agree, change the acceptance value to
eula=true. Do not add quotation marks or change the filename. - Save the file and start the same generated script again.
- Watch the console until NeoForge finishes loading the mod list and reports that the server is ready for connections.
Keep the console window or service output available during this stage. A clean shutdown, a Java exception, or a missing-mod message tells you where to investigate before inviting players. If the first run never creates eula.txt, check that you launched from the extracted server directory and that the process has permission to write there.
Configure and test the server before exposing it
Start with a local connection
After accepting the EULA, start the server again and wait for a completed load. Test from the host computer using localhost or 127.0.0.1. This separates game and mod problems from router, firewall, and address problems. If the local client cannot join, fix the server installation first; forwarding a port will not repair a failed mod load.
Keep the generated files together
Once the server has started, it will contain world data, configuration, logs, libraries, and runtime files. Stop it through the console’s normal shutdown command before copying or editing those files. Abruptly closing the process while it is writing the world can damage the save.

Size resources from evidence, not a made-up minimum
There is no authoritative CrazyTown-specific RAM, CPU, bandwidth, or supported-player baseline in the published project information. Begin with the resources available on your machine, then observe startup time, tick performance, garbage-collection pauses, and memory pressure in the server output while your real group plays. Increase resources or reduce simultaneous activity when logs and in-game performance show a sustained problem. Do not treat a generic Minecraft figure as an official CrazyTown requirement.
Let friends connect safely
Separate local testing from internet access
For players on the same home network, test with the host’s local network address after the localhost test succeeds. For players outside that network, you will normally need to allow the server application through the host firewall and configure the router to forward the Minecraft server connection to the hosting computer. The exact screens and terminology vary by router and operating system, so confirm that the forwarding rule targets the correct machine and remains valid if its local address changes.
Share only the information players need
- Give friends the public address or managed-host address they should enter in Minecraft, not the private
localhostaddress. - Tell them the exact Minecraft version (1.21.1), NeoForge loader, CrazyTown revision, and any extra mod files.
- Keep administrative files, console credentials, and backup locations private.
Make a backup before changing network settings or updating mods. If a router or firewall change makes the server unreachable, revert that change and confirm the local connection still works before trying another adjustment.
Install the matching client pack on every player’s computer
Match all three compatibility points
Every client must run Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge for 1.21.1, and the same CrazyTown Season 3 pack revision used by the server. A player can have the right mod names but still fail to connect if the loader build, game version, or pack revision differs. Ask players to remove duplicate or obsolete copies before importing the intended pack so the launcher does not load two versions of one mod.

The project page warns that some mods could not be bundled in the principal download and provides separate downloads. Obtain those files from the project author’s instructions and copy them into the client’s /mods folder exactly as directed. Do not assume that a missing client mod belongs on the server, and do not download an arbitrary replacement with a similar name. The server and client logs will identify whether a required file is absent or incompatible.

Use a repeatable installation checklist
- Install or select Minecraft 1.21.1 in the launcher.
- Install and select the NeoForge 1.21.1 profile.
- Import the matching CrazyTown Season 3 client pack.
- Copy each separately supplied missing mod into the profile’s
/modsfolder. - Launch once in single-player or the launcher’s test mode to allow configuration files to be created.
- Connect using the server address only after the client reaches the title screen without a loader or mod error.
Keep a copy of the final client mod list. When a new player joins, comparing that list with the server’s pack revision is faster than replacing files at random.

“Unsupported Java” or the installer exits immediately
Check that the process is using 64-bit Java 21, not an older system default or a 32-bit runtime. Run the installer and the generated server script with the same Java executable. If the command prompt points to another installation, use the executable’s full path.
The server stops and mentions the EULA
That is the expected first-run gate. Open the generated eula.txt, set eula=true only after accepting the agreement, save it in the server directory, and start the generated script again. Editing an EULA file in a different folder has no effect.

A client reports missing or mismatched mods
Compare Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, the CrazyTown revision, and the separately supplied files. Remove duplicate versions from the client /mods folder, then copy the exact files specified by the project author. Do not “solve” a mismatch by changing only the client; the server and every player must converge on one known file set.
The server loads locally but friends cannot connect
This points to network exposure rather than pack installation. Re-test locally, confirm the server is still running, check the host firewall, and verify the router forwarding rule points to the current hosting machine. Managed hosting avoids most home-router work, but you still need to confirm the provider’s address and that the selected plan supports NeoForge.

The world or configuration behaves differently after an update
Stop the server cleanly and make a complete backup of the world, configuration, and current pack directory before changing revisions. Keep the old pack available so you can roll back if a new mod set changes world generation or configuration compatibility. Never test an update on the only copy of a long-running world.

Freeze a known-good revision
Write down the server-pack filename, upload date, NeoForge version, Java version, and any separately supplied mods that work together. Give that same list to every player. When the project publishes another revision, treat it as a controlled migration rather than an automatic replacement.
Back up before maintenance
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Copy the world, configuration directories, server-pack files, and logs to a separate storage location.
- Label the backup with its date and pack revision.
- Test that the archive can be opened and that a restore can be performed on a spare directory.
Update one variable at a time
When troubleshooting or upgrading, change either the Java runtime, NeoForge build, pack revision, or an individual extra mod—not all of them simultaneously. Start the server after each controlled change and retain the previous working copy. This makes a new crash or missing-mod message actionable instead of turning several changes into one unknown failure.
