Critical Role Campaign 4 Lore Guide: Aramán, Thjazi Fang, and the Three Tables

Campaign Four leaves Exandria for Aramán, where Thjazi Fang’s execution, dead gods, rebellion, and three rotating adventuring groups shape the story.

Critical Role Campaign Four takes place in Aramán, a new world separate from Exandria. Its opening story centers on the execution of war hero Thjazi Fang and the people drawn into the truth behind his fate, against a backdrop of dead gods and rebellion. You do not need to finish an earlier campaign to understand that premise.

Spoiler cutoff: the official recap for C4E37, “Death to Tyrants,” dated October 7, 2026. Campaign Four is ongoing.

What is Aramán?

Aramán is the uncharted setting of Campaign Four, not another region of Exandria. Critical Role described the move in its August 21, 2025 announcement: “With Campaign Four, we’re venturing beyond our world of Exandria to explore the uncharted lands of Aramán.” The campaign’s official premise places the world in the aftermath of dead gods and a tumultuous rebellion, and asks what great deeds people without gods might accomplish—and who could claim the gods’ place. Critical Role’s campaign page and campaign announcement introduce the setting and premise.

Who is Thjazi Fang, and why does his fate matter?

Thjazi Fang is a war hero marked for execution. His fate is the story’s catalyst: people connected to his life gather to uncover the truth behind what happened. The official premise does not reduce the campaign to a simple rescue or revenge plot; it frames the mystery against Aramán’s political and divine upheaval.

  • Multi-continental story that spans the scarred Wastes of Xhorhas, introduces the continent of Marquet, and eventually plunges players into the Netherdeep—a terrifying cross between the Far Realm and the deep ocean
  • Bursting with lore and all new art depicting Exandria
  • Includes a poster map of Ank’Harel
  • Adds magic items, creatures, and introduces rival NPCs

Several character profiles establish personal links to Thjazi. His pixie companion Thimble mourns his death and seeks vengeance. Kattigan Vale fought alongside him, while his brother Halandil “Hal” Fang is pulled into danger by Thjazi’s schemes and wants to protect his children. Bolaire Lathalia, a curator at Dol-Makjar’s Archanade, is also connected to criminal dealings involving Thjazi. These are starting points from the official profiles, not a complete account of episode-by-episode revelations. The campaign page’s character profiles provide the published introductions.

Why are there three adventuring groups?

Campaign Four uses a West Marches-style structure rather than following one permanent party. After an opening Overture introduces characters and sets up the story, episodes rotate among three tables—the Soldiers, the Seekers, and the Schemers. Their separate perspectives gradually intertwine, so changes in cast are part of the design, not a sign that you have missed an episode. The campaign uses the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons rules, with some custom subclasses. Critical Role’s announcement describes the format.

The Soldiers

The Soldiers thread includes figures with direct ties to Aramán’s rebellion and its aftermath. Azune Nayar is a former Falconer’s Rebellion soldier and now serves as Arcane Marshal of Dol-Makjar’s Revolutionary Guard. Teor Pridesire, a lionfolk mercenary and rebellion veteran, is searching for his brother. These profiles place the group near the setting’s military and revolutionary history.

The Seekers

The Seekers’ profiles include characters pursuing personal or magical goals. Vaelus, an elf and former servant of the fallen Shaper Sylandri, seeks the Stone of Nightsong, stolen from Sylandri’s monastery by Thjazi and Thimble. Thaisha Lloy, an orc wild mage, travels to right wrongs; her family, the Lloys, forged the blades that killed the gods. Occtis Tachonis, an eighth son of House Tachonis who lacked the sorcerous ability expected of him, becomes a reanimated soul in a dead body after his family betrays him. He travels with Thaisha and created Pincushion, an undead fox.

The Schemers

The Schemers’ character introductions connect the story to institutions, secrets, and shifting loyalties. Bolaire Lathalia is a construct and the Archanade’s curator in Dol-Makjar—but the official profile’s unusual key detail is that Bolaire is literally a mask inhabiting a body that is not truly his. Wicander “Wick” Halovar, a scion of the Candescent Creed, has had his confidence in his family’s religion shaken by a shadowy truth. Teor is honor-bound to protect Wick after Wick saved his life.

These labels help orient viewers, but the character profiles are not a substitute for episode recaps when following later developments. A group’s introduction tells you where a character starts, not everything that will be revealed about them.

Which places and historical names should I recognize?

Dol-Makjar is a key city in the character introductions. It is home to the Archanade, a museum curated by Bolaire, and the Penteveral, an academy for mages and arcanists. Their roles make the city’s civic and political institutions useful context for the stories unfolding there.

The official Aramán lore page lists names including the Shapers War and Fall of Azgra, Change of Power, the War of Axe and Vine, the Falconer’s Rebellion, the Sundered Houses, the Hallowed Round, the Seven Stars, and Falcon’s Rest. Treat these as signposts, not as a complete timeline: the page’s headings and entries do not establish a full chronology or explain every cause and connection. Avoid assuming that two events are directly linked just because they appear in the same lore reference.

Do you need to watch earlier Critical Role campaigns?

No earlier campaign is presented as a prerequisite. Critical Role describes Campaign Four as a new story in a new setting, so its basic premise and characters begin in Aramán rather than depending on a finished Exandria campaign. That does not guarantee that every later reference will be self-contained; if a specific episode mentions something unfamiliar, use the relevant Campaign Four recap or lore entry rather than assuming you need to catch up on all the older campaigns.

How to follow the ongoing story without getting lost

  1. Start with the Overture. It introduces the characters and establishes the premise before the rotating tables become the norm.
  2. Track the table names. Note whether an episode follows the Soldiers, Seekers, or Schemers; each group contributes a different perspective.
  3. Use official profiles for names and starting motives. The profiles establish relationships and goals, but not every later twist.
  4. Check recaps for developments you missed. The official site had published a recap for C4E37, “Death to Tyrants,” on October 7, 2026. That is the spoiler cutoff for this guide; later episodes may change what is current.
  5. Keep theories separate from confirmed lore. The official lore page provides useful names and setting entries, but its list alone does not settle chronology or explain all the links between events.

Where can you watch or catch up?

Critical Role’s campaign announcement lists Beacon, YouTube, and Twitch as streaming options. It describes same-day video-on-demand access and full podcast access for Beacon members, with ad-supported podcast availability later. The campaign page also promotes Beacon-exclusive Critical Role Cooldown and companion recaps. Schedules, membership terms, and platform availability can change, so check the current campaign page for the latest details; no schedule is repeated here as a standing guarantee.
