Which Steam settings make achievement tracking easier?
Three Steam client settings cover the essentials: turn on the overlay globally, confirm it is enabled for Cult of the Lamb, and avoid setting notification toasts to Never. The overlay is what displays Steam’s achievement notification panel; the toasts setting controls whether that panel and other Steam notifications are allowed to appear.

Cult of the Lamb is Steam App ID 1313140, developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital. Steam lists achievements and Steam Cloud for the game. The game released on Steam on 11 August 2022, and the store lists Windows and macOS (64-bit), with Steam Deck compatibility marked Verified.
Enable the overlay globally
- Open the Steam desktop client and sign in. These controls are in the client, not on the Steam store website.
- Select Steam > Settings > In-game.
- Turn on Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
- Close Settings. If the game is already running, restart it for the change to take effect.
Enable the overlay for Cult of the Lamb
- Open Library, right-click Cult of the Lamb, and choose Properties. You can also open the game’s Library page and select its gear icon, then Properties.
- In the General tab, check Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
- Close the properties window and launch the game from the Steam Library.
Check the per-game switch even if the global setting is already enabled. Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes the overlay as Steam’s in-game interface and says its default shortcut is Shift+Tab, which users can change in Steam settings. Valve also says the overlay displays an achievement notification panel when an achievement unlocks. That is why disabling the overlay can leave an unlock recorded without its familiar on-screen pop-up.

How do I see achievements while playing Cult of the Lamb?
Launch the game through the Steam Library, wait briefly after it loads, and press Shift+Tab to open the overlay. If the default shortcut conflicts with your controls, set a different combination in Steam’s in-game settings and restart the game.
- Start Cult of the Lamb from the Steam Library rather than a desktop shortcut that bypasses Steam.
- After the game loads, press Shift+Tab. If you changed the shortcut, use your chosen combination instead.
- Use the overlay’s Steam features, such as friends, chat, screenshots, or the built-in browser for community and achievement pages.
- Press the shortcut again to close the overlay.
The overlay hooks into games launched through Steam and supports common graphics APIs including DirectX 7–12, OpenGL, Metal, and Vulkan; Valve’s documentation excludes software-rasterized games. Given that Cult of the Lamb is a Unity game and its Steam store page lists achievements, the Steam overlay is the expected route for its pop-ups. The overlay is not itself a documented live panel listing every still-locked achievement; for checklist-style tracking, use the Library achievement pages and Sets, or consider an optional third-party tracker below.

Go to Steam > Settings > In-game, select the overlay shortcut field, and press a new key combination. Because the game uses modifier keys during combat and building, changing the shortcut can be more practical than turning the overlay off. Restart the game after changing it.
Why are achievement pop-ups missing?
Check the overlay switches first, then the notification setting and launch method. Steam can record an unlock without showing the corner toast if the overlay is unavailable or Steam toasts have been turned off.

- Shift+Tab does nothing: confirm both the global and game-specific overlay switches are on, verify the shortcut, and make sure the game was launched from Steam.
- The overlay is still unresponsive: restart Steam and the game. Steam may close or fail to show the overlay under heavy system load; updating graphics drivers and closing competing overlays or recording tools can help isolate a conflict.
- Game files may be damaged: open Library > Cult of the Lamb > Properties > Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files.
- The overlay opens but achievement toasts do not: check Steam > Settings > Notifications > Show Notification Toasts. Do not set it to Never if you want Steam’s achievement pop-ups.
The exact notification sub-options can vary; the setting to look for is Show Notification Toasts. Steam Achievement Notifier’s documentation notes that choosing Never disables all Steam notification types, including achievements, friends and chat messages, and online-status notices. Steam does not expose a separate native switch for silencing only achievement toasts while retaining those other notifications.
What does the Steam Client Beta change for Woolhaven achievements?
Steam Achievement Sets allow supported games to group achievements into separate sets, such as a base game and its DLC. In October 2026, Massive Monster separated Woolhaven achievements from the base-game achievements, giving PC players a distinct base-game completion view rather than having the expansion’s achievements mixed into that set.
The studio announced the change on 20 October 2026, saying it had separated the DLC achievements from the base game. Its Steam news update likewise said that Woolhaven achievements had been separated. The key practical point is that players who completed the base game can see that set as complete without owning or finishing the expansion, using the Achievement Sets interface.
Join the Steam Client Beta
- Open Steam > Settings > Interface.
- Find the Steam Client Beta option under beta participation and opt in.
- Allow Steam to update or restart if prompted, then open the game’s achievement view in the Library.
Achievement Sets were in beta in October 2026, so labels and page details may change. Valve’s player-facing feature, described in Steam News and reported by VGTimes on 16 October 2026, provides a progress bar for each set, achievement details, and filters for sets, locked achievements, and unlocked achievements. The rebuilt achievement view also supports comparing progress with up to three friends, including rare achievements and DLC sets.

Base-game sets appear in blue and DLC sets in purple. A DLC set appears when the player owns the add-on, and DLC achievements do not count toward overall game progress until the player owns that DLC. The page’s global completion-rate statistics are a toggle on the achievement page. Valve’s explanation, as quoted by VGTimes, is that players in supported games “still unlock achievements by playing the game as usual”; Sets change how achievements are grouped and viewed, not the normal act of earning them.
Other details matter to completionists: totals include achievements the player owns and can still unlock; completed sets can remain marked complete if a developer adds achievements later; and achievements developers archive as unearnable no longer block completion for players who never earned them. Players who already unlocked an archived achievement keep it. Steam also renamed the Perfect Games tab to Completed, and completed sets can appear on the perfectionist showcase.

Steam’s built-in overlay, toasts, and Library achievement pages are enough for unlock notifications and post-session progress checks. A third-party notifier is worth considering only if you want a live list of locked achievements, rarity information, custom alerts, or stream overlays while playing.

Steam Achievement Notifier also offers native OS notifications and can take a Steam screenshot when an achievement unlocks. Its wiki’s display advice is particularly relevant if an external window must draw over a game: borderless windowed display is often more compatible than exclusive fullscreen. Achievement Watcher Next documents a keyboard shortcut, search, filters, rarity, and hidden descriptions for its live list. Neither optional tool is needed for the Steam overlay’s standard unlock toast.

If you enable a third-party notifier and want to avoid duplicate pop-ups, you can set Steam’s own toasts to Never, but that mutes friends, chat, and online-status notifications too. Treat that as a trade-off, not an achievement-only setting. Keep Steam’s toasts enabled if you want the native panel as well.

Steam Cloud helps carry save data between devices on the same Steam account, while the game’s own difficulty setting can make the hunt more comfortable. Neither feature replaces the overlay or the achievement pages: Cloud is for save roaming, and the difficulty control is an in-game option rather than a Steam tracking toggle.
- Move between PC and Steam Deck: Steam lists Cloud support for Cult of the Lamb, so saves can roam between devices when signed into the same Steam account. Achievement data is associated with the Steam account, not just the local installation.
- Open the overlay on Deck: use the Steam button to open the Steam overlay; Shift+Tab is the desktop shortcut and is not the Deck’s overlay control. The game is marked Verified on Steam Deck. No official Deck-specific live achievement-list panel is documented here.
- Use screenshots for proof or notes: Steam screenshots require the overlay and use F12 by default; the key can be changed under Steam > Settings > In-game. Steam opens the Screenshot Uploader after quitting if screenshots were taken. To disable that post-game uploader, use Steam > Settings > Cloud > Open the screenshot uploader after closing game.
- Adjust the game’s difficulty: a long-running Steam Community achievement guide says there are no difficulty-related achievements and that difficulty can be lowered in the game settings. That guide also says there are no missable achievements; because it is community-authored, treat it as guidance rather than a current official achievement guarantee.
- Find collectibles: the same community guide points players to the Codex at merchants for collectible tracking. It also notes that many achievements are cumulative, so some require repeated resource gathering.
Do not rely on an old achievement total to judge completion. A 2024 community comment mentioned 48 Steam achievements as of the Sins of the Flesh update, but Woolhaven and later content changed the list. A current official total was not available in the Steam Community or SteamDB achievement tables cited for this article, so a specific up-to-date count cannot be stated confidently.
Which setup should I choose?
For most players, enable the overlay at both Steam levels, leave toasts on, and launch through the Library. Add the Steam Client Beta if you want to track the Woolhaven and base-game sets separately. Use an external notifier only when a live locked list, custom alerts, or streaming features solve a need the native Steam interface does not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Achievement Sets change how I earn achievements?
No. Valve’s explanation, quoted by VGTimes in October 2026, says that in games supporting sets, achievements are still unlocked through normal play. The feature changes how progress is grouped and displayed.
Can I lower the difficulty and still earn Cult of the Lamb achievements?
A long-running Steam Community achievement guide says there are no difficulty-linked achievements and that the game difficulty can be lowered in its settings. It is community guidance, not a current official guarantee.

Does Steam Deck use Shift+Tab for the overlay?
No. On Deck, the Steam button opens the Steam overlay; Shift+Tab is the desktop shortcut. Steam lists the game as Deck Verified, but an official Deck-specific live achievement list is not documented here.
Can I use screenshots to keep a record of an achievement unlock?
