CD Projekt has not confirmed a release date or window for Cyberpunk 2. The late-2030 or 2031 timeframe came up as an investor’s estimate during a May 2025 earnings call; co-CEO Michał Nowakowski described the company’s average development journey, but declined to name a year for the sequel. Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077’s sales have since moved beyond the 35 million milestone announced in November 2025.
Has Cyberpunk 2’s release window been revealed?
No. In the May 2025 Q1 earnings-call Q&A, an investor asked whether comparing Cyberpunk 2’s development with The Witcher 4 could point to a launch in late 2030 or 2031. That timeframe was the questioner’s inference, not an announced target.
CD PROJEKT co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said the company’s average period from pre-production to final release is four to five years. He also emphasized that projects differ and that many variables affect their schedules, adding that he would not point investors to specific years for Cyberpunk 2. Where did the late-2030 or 2031 estimate come from?
The investor framed the estimate by comparing Cyberpunk 2 with The Witcher 4 and asking whether that comparison suggested late 2030 or 2031. Nowakowski replied that the company’s four-to-five-year average was “a bit less than what you said in the question,” but immediately cautioned that every project is unique and has variables that shape its outcome. He did not confirm either year.

It is therefore more accurate to describe 2030 or 2031 as an investor’s rough extrapolation than as a CD PROJEKT release window. The cited exchange does not establish when Cyberpunk 2 will launch.
How many copies has Cyberpunk 2077 sold?
CD PROJEKT’s sales milestones have advanced since the 35 million figure in the original headline. Its 2025 annual report dates the announcement that Cyberpunk 2077 had surpassed 35 million copies to 26 November 2025. In the company’s first-half 2026 update, it said the game had crossed 40 million copies sold. Both figures are company-reported milestones. See CD PROJEKT’s results and reports.

The 35 million figure is a dated milestone, not the latest total in the cited company updates. CD PROJEKT’s 2025 report says that year’s performance was helped by PlayStation Plus availability and the Nintendo Switch 2 Ultimate Edition release.

The same first-half 2026 update that reported more than 40 million Cyberpunk 2077 copies also put Phantom Liberty at 15 million. The company described that expansion milestone as achieved in less than three years. There is also physical-product activity around the game. CD PROJEKT’s 2025 annual report discusses sales to distributors of Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition cartridges for Nintendo Switch 2. The report establishes that a cartridge release exists, but not current store stock or availability in a particular region.
For the franchise’s fifth anniversary, CD PROJEKT RED announced a Collector’s Set featuring a steel case, illuminated Relic biochip replica, soundtrack USB drive, three holographic tarot cards and two pins. The announcement also described a planned 2026 Kickstarter campaign for a Cyberpunk trading card game with WeirdCo.
