Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.31 changes how AutoDrive behaves: on a route to a selected point, the vehicle drives more smoothly, overtakes vehicles blocking its way, and no longer stops at traffic lights. CD PROJEKT RED describes Free Roam separately, saying it was upgraded to follow traffic rules and navigate the city more reliably. “More human” is a useful shorthand, not a measured claim about realism.
What changed in AutoDrive?
The official Patch 2.31 notes say: “When driving to a selected point, the vehicle now drives smoothly, overtakes blocking vehicles, and no longer stops at traffic lights.” That behavior applies to AutoDrive when you direct the vehicle to a destination.
How is Free Roam different?
Free Roam is a separate mode. CD PROJEKT RED says it was updated to follow traffic rules and navigate the city more reliably. The notes do not describe Free Roam as using the selected-point behavior of overtaking blockers and ignoring traffic lights.
When did Patch 2.31 release, and what platforms received it?
CD PROJEKT RED dated Patch 2.31 September 11, 2025, and said it was rolling out on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Mac, and Nintendo Switch 2.

What else is in the update?
- Photo Mode: Most poses introduced in Update 2.3 became available more broadly; NPC collision can be disabled to make positioning easier; and a Royce pose was fixed.
- Quests and open world: The update includes fixes involving Freedom, Motorbreath, and Nitro (Youth Energy).
- Settings: A vignette toggle was added under Settings → Graphics → Basic.
- Other fixes: The notes also list localization, graphics, PC, and Mac fixes.
Does the update prove AutoDrive feels more human?
No measured realism evaluation or driving test is reported in the patch notes. They specify the intended changes—smoother selected-point driving, overtaking blockers, and not stopping at traffic lights—but do not quantify how often they occur or establish that the result feels more realistic in play.
