If Cyberpunk 2077 keeps crashing on PS5, start with a full power cycle, then work through these checks from least to most disruptive. CD PROJEKT RED specifically recommends power cycling and, in some cases, loading an earlier save. The remaining steps are general PlayStation game-start troubleshooting—not fixes confirmed for every Cyberpunk crash.
Before you start: note when the crash happens
Write down what you were doing when the game closed, whether it happens at the same point each time, and any error code shown. That information can help you choose whether to try an earlier save and will be useful if you need to contact support.
10 steps to try when Cyberpunk 2077 crashes on PS5
1. Fully power cycle the PS5
CD PROJEKT RED’s PlayStation crash guidance recommends a complete power cycle. Turn the console off; do not use Rest Mode. Wait for the lights to turn off, unplug the power cable, and leave it unplugged for at least two minutes. Reconnect it and start the PS5. The developer says this process does not erase games or data. CD PROJEKT RED’s PlayStation crash guidance.
2. Try an earlier save if the crash repeats at the same point
If the game reliably crashes during the same mission, location, or action, load a save from before that point and see whether you can continue. CD PROJEKT RED recommends using an earlier save in some cases; it does not identify this as a universal fix or establish a cause for every recurring crash. Avoid deleting saved data as a routine troubleshooting step.

5. Check for PS5 system software updates
Make sure the console is running current system software. PlayStation lists this check in its broader game-start guidance and in its instructions for error CE-109573-5. That code refers to a problem starting a game; do not assume it applies unless that is the error you see. PlayStation’s CE-109573-5 support page.
6. Restore licenses
As a general game-start check, restore licenses for your account, then try launching the game again. PlayStation includes license restoration in its troubleshooting guide for games that will not start.

7. Delete and reinstall the game
If the earlier checks do not help, delete Cyberpunk 2077 and reinstall or redownload it. PlayStation recommends this for certain game-start problems, including CE-109573-5. If redownloading, PlayStation suggests using a wired internet connection if possible. Reinstalling the game is not the same as deleting saved data; do not remove saves as a routine step.
8. Rebuild the database in Safe Mode
Turn off the PS5, then start it in Safe Mode and select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Rebuild Database. PlayStation lists this maintenance option in its general game-start guidance and CE-109573-5 steps. 9. Update system software from Safe Mode if the problem persists
PlayStation’s CE-109573-5 workflow advises updating system software through Safe Mode if the issue continues after the earlier steps. This is a platform troubleshooting action, not a Cyberpunk-specific remedy.
10. Treat system software reinstallation as a last resort
PlayStation presents system software reinstallation as a later escalation in its broader game-start guidance. It is more serious than updating: back up your data before proceeding and follow PlayStation’s current instructions carefully. If the game still crashes, contact PlayStation or CD PROJEKT RED support with the error code, a description of what happens, the steps that reproduce it, and a screenshot or video if available.

Which steps apply to your problem?
- Crash during play, especially at a repeatable point: begin with the full power cycle, then consider testing an earlier save.
- Game will not launch or shows CE-109573-5: use PlayStation’s general startup checks, including restart, reinstall, database rebuild, and system software update, as appropriate.
- Game is on USB extended storage: test it from internal storage before moving on to more disruptive steps.
- Considering system software reinstallation: reserve it for escalation and back up data first.
These steps come from official developer and PlayStation guidance, but the platform steps are not guaranteed to stop every in-game crash. The cited support pages do not publish crash-rate figures or success rates for these actions.
