If Cyberpunk 2077 keeps crashing on Xbox Series X or Series S, start with a full power cycle: shut down the console, unplug it for two minutes, then reconnect it and restart. CD PROJEKT RED recommends this for Xbox crashes and says it will not erase games or data. It is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
1. Fully power cycle your Xbox
CD PROJEKT RED recommends this procedure for crashes and other performance problems. It applies to both Xbox Series X and Series S:
- Hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for at least 10 seconds to turn it off.
- Unplug the console’s power cable.
- Wait two minutes.
- Reconnect the cable and turn the console on.
The publisher says this will not erase games or data. CD PROJEKT RED’s Xbox crash instructions cover the procedure.
2. Clear the Xbox cache
CD PROJEKT RED says clearing the cache can help troubleshoot performance issues, crashes and black screens, and will not erase games, data or saves. Its unplugging method works on any Xbox, including both Series X and Series S:

- Power down the console.
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the Xbox.
- Wait at least two minutes.
- Reconnect the cable and turn the console on.
The publisher also documents a menu option for Series X: Profile & System → Settings → Devices & Connections → Blu-ray → Persistent Storage → Clear Persistent Storage. 3. Try an earlier save if the crash happens at one point
If the game repeatedly crashes when loading a save or reaching the same point in a playthrough, CD PROJEKT RED says trying an earlier save may help in some cases. Keep your current saves; the guidance does not establish that every crash is save-related or that reverting will always solve it.

4. Contact CD PROJEKT RED support if it still crashes
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, use the publisher’s Xbox crash support form. It asks for details that can help describe the problem:
- Your console model: Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
- The graphics mode you are using.
- Whether you have a boxed or digital copy.
- Your game version.
- Whether Phantom Liberty is installed or involved.
- Whether the playthrough began before or after the 2.0 update.

What these steps can—and cannot—tell you
The publisher provides troubleshooting steps, not one confirmed cause for every Xbox crash. Its support guidance does not establish that crashes are always caused by cache, a damaged save, overheating or a particular update. Power cycling, cache clearing and testing an earlier save are sensible steps to try, but none is presented as a universal fix.
