It brought more than 100 new customization options for V, expanded vehicle paint customization, upgraded Photo Mode, and added occasional Johnny reactions while driving. Later releases 2.21 and 2.3 showed that support continued after 2.2—but they are past releases, not a promise of future updates.
What’s new in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2?
CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.2 announcement and patch notes describe a mix of cosmetic additions, Photo Mode improvements, play-world details, and fixes to quests, gameplay, and the interface. The headline feature count—more than 100 new customization options for V—is the publisher’s figure.
More ways to customize V and vehicles
Update 2.2 adds new cosmetic choices for V and extends CrystalCoat, the vehicle-color-changing feature, beyond Rayfield vehicles to select Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort models.
It also introduces TWINTONE. Scan an eligible vehicle with Kiroshi optics, pay to save its paint scheme, then apply compatible saved schemes to vehicles. Some schemes are model-specific; quest-linked cars, NCPD vehicles, and other incompatible vehicles are excluded. Autofixer marks compatible vehicles with a spray-can icon. Ten vehicles added to Autofixer
The update adds these purchasable vehicles:
- Mizutani Shion MZ1
- Mizutani Shion Targa MZT
- Thorton Galena GA32t
- Thorton Colby CST40
- Archer Quartz EC-L r275
- Quadra Type-66 640 TS
- Quadra Type-66 680 TS
- Mahir Supron FS3-T
- Villefort Deleon V410-S Cupé — Phantom Liberty required
- Mizutani Hozuki MH2 — Phantom Liberty required
Photo Mode and apartment displays
Photo Mode gains additional camera options, aspect ratios, lighting choices, and posable NPCs. Players can display their captured images in V’s apartments using SmartFrames, a feature also described by Xbox Wire.
Johnny can ride along
After Act 1, Johnny may occasionally appear in the passenger seat when V is driving and react to events. It is an intermittent world detail, not a guaranteed companion on every trip.

Is Update 2.2 free, and do you need Phantom Liberty?
Update 2.2 is free for anyone who owns the Cyberpunk 2077 base game. You do not need Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition, and you do not need to start a new save. If you do not own the base game, you must buy it to play the update. CD PROJEKT RED answers these questions in its Update 2.2 FAQ.
Phantom Liberty is relevant only to particular content here: two of the ten new Autofixer vehicles require the expansion. The rest of Update 2.2 does not require it.

Which platforms received Update 2.2?
CD PROJEKT RED listed PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for Update 2.2. It was not released for Xbox One. Xbox Wire noted that the Xbox One edition’s final patch was November 8, 2022, and that Series X|S is required for patches after that date.
Do not confuse 2.2’s platform list with later releases. In July 2025, CD PROJEKT RED announced Update 2.3 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Mac alongside the Mac game launch. That later platform support does not mean Update 2.2 launched on those additional platforms.

Did CD Projekt continue supporting Cyberpunk 2077 after 2.2?
Yes, in the sense that later updates were released. Patch 2.21 arrived on January 23, 2025, adding DLSS 4 support on PC and fixes. Update 2.3 followed in July 2025 with features including AutoDrive, Delamain taxi service, quests, vehicles, Photo Mode additions, and technology updates. CD PROJEKT RED said 2.3, like 2.2, was developed with Virtuos.
At the time of the 2.2 launch, Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko described the creative potential of the game’s world: “The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is fascinating, rich and varied – and there is still so much space to create rewarding and inspiring content and features for our players.” That was a comment on creative possibilities, not an announcement of a particular future patch. The subsequent releases establish that 2.21 and 2.3 happened; they do not establish a forward-looking update roadmap.
