Iconic weapons are unique variants with special properties, and they come from more than one kind of activity: missions, enemy drops, exploration, crafting specifications, Dogtown airdrops, and vendor recovery. This guide gives practical, source-supported routes for selected base-game and Phantom Liberty weapons, while flagging where a mission decision matters. It is not a verified inventory of every Iconic in the current game, so it avoids an unsupported total and separates documented recovery options from items with no recovery route established here.
Version note: Patch 2.0 changed weapon tiers and progression. The location examples below come from guides of different ages; treat their routes as directions to check in your current build, not as confirmation of current stats, rarity labels, or balance. Official Patch 2.02 and Update 2.1 notes establish specific recovery changes, not a blanket rule for every missed weapon.

How Iconic weapons are acquired
An Iconic is a distinctive version of a weapon, with a special effect that sets it apart from its ordinary counterpart. Finding one may mean collecting a mission reward, picking up a weapon during exploration, defeating a particular enemy, earning a crafting specification, or buying an item from a vendor after missing its original route.

- Agaou (Axe): Dropped by Ayo Zarin during an Increased Criminal Activity event near Luxor High Wellness Spa.
Airdrops and the Black Market Vendor
Gamer Guides lists Alabai, Laika, and Taigan as random airdrop finds. Availability is not limited to recovering them from an airdrop: CD PROJEKT RED’s December 4, 2023 Update 2.1 notes say, “Previously exclusive Iconic weapons are now obtainable in the game,” and specify that Alabai, Borzaya, Laika, Taigan, and Volkodav can be bought from the Black Market Vendor if they were not retrieved from an airdrop. This official change applies to those named weapons; it does not establish a recovery route for every Iconic. [CD PROJEKT RED Update 2.1 patch notes]

What to do if you miss an Iconic
Recovery depends on the weapon and the update. Do not assume that every missed pickup can be bought later or that every choice-dependent weapon has an alternative route.
- Sasquatch’s Hammer: Patch 2.02 says it would appear in the stadium black-market vendor stock if missed after the boss fight.
- Bald Eagle: Patch 2.02 says it could be picked up after siding with Songbird.
- Alabai, Borzaya, Laika, Taigan, and Volkodav: Update 2.1 documents Black Market Vendor purchases when they were not retrieved from an airdrop.
Patch 2.02 also fixed a progression issue involving “Addicted to Chaos” and a stash looted before V received its passcode. These are specific patch notes, not evidence that all missable rewards have been made recoverable. [CD PROJEKT RED Patch 2.02] [CD PROJEKT RED Update 2.1 patch notes]

Which version do you need?
The base game is sufficient for the base-game routes. Dogtown and the Phantom Liberty weapons listed above require the expansion.
