No supported Switch 2 procedure lets you choose an older Cyberpunk 2077 update. Nintendo says update and DLC data cannot be deleted separately from the software, so removing the game is not the same as removing a patch. Deleting the software preserves your save data, but reinstalling a digital copy does not provide a version selector. The physical Ultimate Edition is a genuine 64 GB game-card release, yet the available official guidance does not establish that an already-updated Switch 2 will launch its card-resident build offline, or that a save made under update 2.5 will load on an earlier build.
If an update caused crashes or another problem, use the publisher’s documented corruption check, cache-clear procedure and earlier in-game save before experimenting with deletion. Those steps address damaged data or a troublesome save; they do not downgrade the software.

Can you roll back a Cyberpunk 2077 update on Switch 2?
Not through any supported menu or publisher-documented method identified for Switch 2. Nintendo’s software-management instructions explicitly state: “You cannot delete DLC or Update data separately from the software.” The available recovery paths remove and reinstall the software or restore a downloaded title, but they do not expose a list of historical patches.
That distinction matters because deleting the installed software can leave the system with no local game files while retaining the save. It does not tell the console to install update 2.31, 2.4 or any other selected release. A reinstall obtains the software made available for that ownership route, rather than functioning as a patch picker.

As checked on October 30, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch 2 support entry says update 2.5 is live. The publisher’s October 22, 2026 announcement also lists Switch 2 among the platforms receiving 2.5. An advance note dated October 21 said the Switch 2 rollout would arrive in the days after October 22, but the later support entry is the relevant live-status statement. Patch 2.5 includes a fix for a Switch 2 error in which saving could report insufficient space. Availability can change, so check the current support page if you are reading this later.
Can I delete just the update or DLC?
No. Nintendo’s documented Switch 2 storage controls do not offer separate deletion of update data or DLC. The available command is to delete the software package as a whole.

- From the HOME Menu, highlight Cyberpunk 2077.
- Open Options and choose Manage Software.
- Select Delete Software and confirm.
This removes the installed game software. Nintendo says save data is stored in the Switch 2 system memory and is not deleted by deleting software. The same save-storage rule applies whether the game came from a physical card or an eShop download. A microSD Express card can hold software and updates, but it cannot hold the game’s save data.
Do not select Delete Save Data, remove the user profile or initialize the console as a routine rollback attempt. Those actions attack the data you may need to recover your progress and still do not provide an older patch.
Does the physical Switch 2 card let me play an older version?
It may seem like the card should contain an untouched launch build, but the official material does not establish a reliable offline downgrade procedure. CD PROJEKT RED released Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Switch 2 on June 5, 2025 as either a physical 64 GB game card or an eShop download. The edition includes the base game and Phantom Liberty. Nintendo’s general definition of a “game-key card” describes a card that requires a game-data download; the publisher describes this release as a physical 64 GB game card, so it should not casually be labeled a game-key card.

- Remove the game card from the console.
- Use HOME Menu software options → Manage Software → Delete Software to remove the installed software.
- Reinsert the game card.
- Download available updates when prompted or when the system offers them.
That procedure is not documented as a downgrade. The guidance does not say that declining an update, switching the console offline or deleting the software will force a previously updated Switch 2 to run a particular card-resident version. It also does not promise that the card contains every file needed to launch without additional downloads. Additional language packs may require downloads and can change the total installed size.
What remains unknown about an offline card launch
The official sources reviewed do not establish whether a particular Switch 2 that has already run update 2.5 will launch the card-resident build while offline after the installed software is deleted. They also do not establish whether that build would be an earlier release, which components would remain on system storage, or whether the console would insist on obtaining an available update before starting.
For that reason, a physical card is best understood as a different ownership route, not as an officially supported archive of selectable patches. Owning the card does not let you choose 2.31 from a menu, and buying a card after using the digital edition is not a guaranteed way to reverse a patch.
What is different about physical and digital ownership?
Both routes use the same Switch 2 save-storage rules, but their reinstall sources differ. The comparison below describes what is established, not a success rate for downgrading.

Nintendo generally allows the same user’s save to be used with physical and digital copies of the same software. That general compatibility statement does not answer the harder question: whether a save written while update 2.5 was installed can be opened by an earlier card-resident build. No quantified compatibility result is published in the cited official material.
Will deleting the game delete my save?
No. Nintendo says deleting software leaves save data on the Switch 2’s system memory. This applies whether Cyberpunk 2077 was installed from a card or downloaded digitally.

That protection does not make deletion risk-free. A save can remain present while the replacement software refuses to load it, behaves differently or requires a newer version. The sources do not establish backward compatibility between an update-2.5 save and an earlier card-resident build, so do not delete the software expecting a guaranteed path back to an older state.
What about cloud backup?
Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud applies only to supported titles. Do not assume that Cyberpunk 2077 is covered without title-specific confirmation in your account or Nintendo’s current support information. Cloud availability, even where supported, would protect a save copy; it would not provide an older game executable.
What microSD Express can and cannot do
microSD Express storage can hold downloaded software and update files when internal space is insufficient. Nintendo says game saves remain in system memory, so moving or replacing the card cannot restore an earlier save or patch. A larger card solves a storage-capacity problem, not version selection.
What should I do if update 2.5 caused crashes or save errors?
Use the publisher’s Switch 2 troubleshooting sequence before deleting anything. It targets corrupt installation data, cached system data and a problematic in-game save without presenting an unsupported downgrade as a fix.
- Open System Settings → Data Management → Manage Software → Cyberpunk 2077.
- Choose Check for Corrupt Data and let the console complete the check.
- If the problem persists, open System Settings → System → Formatting Options → Clear Cache. CD PROJEKT RED says this does not delete saves.
- Try loading an earlier in-game save from the title’s load menu.
- If you use the physical edition and Nintendo’s troubleshooting flow asks for a reinstall, remove the card, delete the software, reinsert the card and download the available updates.
- For a digital copy, restore the downloaded title through the console’s software-management and redownload controls.
An earlier in-game save is not an earlier software update. It can help determine whether a particular save became damaged or whether the failure is tied to newer progress, but it cannot remove patch 2.5 features or code.
Why the storage error is relevant
Update 2.5 includes a fix for a Switch 2 issue in which saving could report insufficient space. If that is the symptom you saw, first verify free storage and the installed software’s integrity rather than attempting to remove the update. Deleting the title and reinstalling may consume additional download space and still return you to the same available version.

Is there a safe way to test the card without risking progress?
There is no officially verified test that proves an older launch on an already-updated console. If you choose to investigate the physical edition, protect your data and treat the result as uncertain.
- Confirm which user owns the save and avoid deleting save data.
- Record the current software version and the exact symptom before removing software.
- Make sure you have enough internal or microSD Express storage for the reinstall and any language downloads.
- Keep the game card available; deleting a digital installation does not create a card-resident copy.
- Expect the console to offer available updates. Do not interpret an update prompt as evidence that an older launch is supported.
- Stop if the console requests a system reset, user deletion or save-data deletion; none is a documented rollback step.
If the card launches only after downloading an update, that result is consistent with Nintendo’s documented troubleshooting flow and does not demonstrate that an older version was available offline. If a newer save fails to load, do not overwrite or delete it while investigating.

CD PROJEKT RED publishes older-version guidance for PC platforms such as Steam beta channels or GOG Galaxy. Those instructions rely on PC launchers and their version-management features. They are not Switch 2 procedures and should not be adapted as if Nintendo’s software-management menu offered the same controls.
Switch 2 owners have the card-based or eShop-based reinstall paths described above, plus the console’s corruption check and cache-clear tools. Neither route exposes an archive of prior Cyberpunk 2077 patches.

If a specific older version is essential for a mod, exploit, quest behavior or compatibility reason, Switch 2 currently offers no documented, dependable way to select it. Keep the existing installation and saves intact while you check whether the issue is addressed by update 2.5 or by the support steps.
If you own the physical edition
You can follow Nintendo’s delete-and-reinsert troubleshooting sequence, but regard any offline card launch as unverified. Have a storage card and the required downloads ready, and do not assume that the card’s presence guarantees a launch without updates.

If you own only the digital edition
You can delete and redownload the purchase, but the cited recovery procedure does not let you choose an earlier patch. A digital reinstall cannot manufacture the card-resident build described in the physical release.
If preserving progress is the priority
Leave the software and save data in place, run the corruption check, clear the cache if needed and try an earlier in-game save. This approach avoids an unsupported experiment while using the publisher’s documented remedies.
