If a Cyberpunk 2077 gig, mission or objective has no marker, start in the Journal: select the job and make sure it is tracked. Update 2.0 added the ability to untrack quests and displays marker distance in the Journal, so a missing route can be a selection problem rather than a broken save. If the job is tracked but will not advance, check for a prerequisite quest, then try reversible trigger steps such as leaving the area, starting another quest or skipping 24 in-game hours. Next verify the game files and load a save from before the failure. Keep the current save, especially if mods are installed, and send CD PROJEKT RED both before-and-after saves if the fault remains.
What kind of quest-marker problem do you have?
“The marker is missing” can describe several different states. Diagnose the state before changing saves or reinstalling anything; the appropriate fix depends on whether the job is untracked, locked behind another quest, unable to trigger, or switching routes.

Journal tracking and marker distance are documented game features. A quest that cannot progress is a different support case from a map route that changes, so do not assume one action cures all of these symptoms.
How do I track the correct quest in the Journal?
Open the Journal, choose the intended job and verify that it is the active, tracked selection. Then return to the map and check whether the route and distance correspond to that job.

- Open the Journal.
- Find the gig, side job, main job or other activity you intend to follow.
- Select it and check its current objective text.
- Confirm that the job is tracked rather than untracked. Update 2.0 introduced an explicit Journal option to untrack quests.
- Check the distance shown for the selected quest. If the distance belongs to a different activity, select the intended job again.
- Return to the map and verify that the destination matches the Journal entry before travelling.
Do not rely on an assumed platform-specific map-filter switch. The documented, cross-platform check is the Journal’s quest-selection state; button names and controller prompts can differ by platform and input method.
Could another quest be preventing the objective from appearing?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance says that some quests require another quest to be completed before they can progress. A missing marker can therefore mean “not unlocked yet,” not a damaged installation.

In the Journal, read the full current objective and look for jobs involving the same character, fixer, location or storyline. If a related job is unfinished, complete it or reach the point the objective describes, then revisit the Journal. A quest that is waiting for a prerequisite generally will not respond to repeated map selection.
Use version-specific examples as clues, not universal rules
The Edgerunners 2.5 update notes provide concrete examples of unlock chains. The new Clampdown side quest requires The Heist, two gigs for Wakako and then a message. Welcome to Paradise requires The Heist and 15 Street Cred. These requirements apply to those named quests; they do not establish a universal level or mission requirement for every missing marker.
If the Journal does not list the job at all, check its known unlock conditions before treating the absence as a bug. If the job is listed and its objective is already active, continue with the recovery steps below.
What low-risk steps can make a quest trigger?
GOG’s quest-support advice recommends several reversible actions: update the game, repair a GOG installation, try an earlier save, leave the quest area or start another quest, and skip 24 in-game hours. These are possibilities, not guaranteed fixes for every quest.

Install the latest update offered for your platform, then relaunch the game. Record the game version shown on the title screen or platform information page before reporting the problem. An update can contain a quest-specific correction, but a current version does not prove that every marker issue is fixed.

2. Leave the area and return
Travel away from the quest area, let the location unload, and come back. If the objective depends on an encounter or a character entering the area, this can give the event another opportunity to trigger. Do not overwrite the only save that shows the original failure.
3. Start or advance a different quest
Track another available job, perform a small amount of progress, and then reselect the stalled quest in the Journal. This is a trigger-recovery suggestion from GOG, not a documented requirement for a particular mission.
4. Skip 24 in-game hours
Use the game’s in-game time-skip function for 24 hours, then check the Journal and objective location again. The recommendation concerns 24 hours inside the game, not 24 hours of real-world waiting, and no success rate is established.
5. Try an earlier save
Load a save made before the marker disappeared or the objective stopped advancing. If the quest works there, continue from that state while retaining the newer save as evidence. An earlier save is more informative than repeatedly reloading a save created after the quest state was already recorded.
How do I verify files without losing my progress?
When the quest is genuinely blocked, CD PROJEKT RED recommends verifying the installation files and loading a save made before the failure. File verification checks the installed game data; it does not necessarily repair a quest state that is already stored in a save.
Verify the installation through your storefront
Use the repair or file-verification function supplied by your platform’s launcher. The developer’s Mac support guidance confirms that verification is available for Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store installations. The exact menu wording varies by storefront, so use the launcher’s own “verify,” “repair” or equivalent command rather than deleting game files manually.
Preserve the current state before loading back
- Keep the save that shows the missing marker or stalled objective.
- Note the quest name, objective text, location and game version.
- After verification, load a pre-failure save and check whether the same objective advances.
- Compare the two states instead of overwriting the newer save immediately.
If verification changes nothing and the pre-failure save reproduces the issue, the evidence points away from a simple damaged download. Continue with mod isolation or support escalation.

What should I do if mods or console commands are involved?
Isolate modifications instead of guessing which one is responsible. CDPR-Modding-Documentation advises temporarily removing mods, retesting the suspected mod together with its dependencies, and then retesting without that mod.
Use a controlled comparison
- Back up important saves before changing the installation.
- Record the mod list and each dependency needed by the suspected mod.
- Temporarily remove the suspected mod and its dependent components according to the mod’s documentation.
- Launch the game and test the same quest state.
- If the issue disappears, add components back one at a time to identify the change.
Update 2.5 introduced cross-platform in-game mod support, so do not assume that only PC players can have a modified installation. When contacting support, disclose mods, console commands and trainers; GOG specifically asks for that information in blocked-progression reports.
Community console commands may alter a quest state, but they are not an official repair and can make a save harder to diagnose. Keep an untouched backup and test on a copy when possible.
Did Update 2.5 fix missing quest markers?
Update 2.5 contains a documented progression fix for a named quest, but its notes do not claim a general repair for missing markers. CD PROJEKT RED dated the Edgerunners 2.5 notes October 21, 2026 and announced rollout from October 22 on PC, Mac storefront versions, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version to follow.
The documented quest-specific correction
The notes identify a progression fix for Things Done Changed involving the Delamain cab. That is evidence for that quest, not proof that every absent objective or route is corrected by 2.5.
The route-switching report is a separate symptom
A recent PS5 player report described a selected gig or map destination switching back to a main-quest route, even without mods. The report is anecdotal; the reviewed official notes do not establish its cause or a permanent remedy. If this is your symptom, document the selected job, the route that replaces it, the platform and version, and how often the switch occurs.
An SSD is not a demonstrated marker fix
Update 2.0’s PC SSD requirement concerns content streaming. The official notes do not establish that buying an SSD repairs a missing marker or a quest state already recorded in a save. Treat storage requirements and quest troubleshooting as separate issues.

When should I use a pre-issue save?
Use a pre-issue save after checking the Journal, prerequisites and low-risk trigger steps, or sooner if you already have a clearly dated save from before the failure. It is the safest way to determine whether the quest state changed at a specific point.

- Keep: the current affected save so support can compare both states.
- Test: the same objective under the same platform and version conditions.
- Avoid: deleting all newer saves or relying on an autosave that may have been created after the fault.
If the earlier save works, progress from it only after preserving the affected state. If it fails in the same way, report that reproducibility rather than repeatedly cycling through identical reloads.
How do I report a quest that still will not progress?
Contact CD PROJEKT RED support when the Journal and prerequisite checks, reversible trigger steps, file verification and a pre-failure save do not restore progress. Include enough information for the support team to reproduce the state.
Include these details
- The exact quest, gig or side job name.
- The objective text shown when progress stops.
- Your platform and game version.
- Where the character was when the marker disappeared or the objective failed.
- Whether the job was tracked in the Journal.
- Whether a related prerequisite quest was complete.
- Whether mods, console commands or trainers were used.
- A save from before the problem and the affected save, when available.
Describe the sequence in order: what you selected, what action should have triggered next, what appeared instead, and which recovery steps changed nothing. For a route that reverts to a main quest, say that explicitly rather than calling it only a “missing marker”; it is a different symptom.

No. A guide can explain an unlock order, objective location or route, but it cannot restore a marker or alter a blocked save. Use one only after the free troubleshooting steps, when you need help understanding where a quest should lead.

Piggyback lists the Cyberpunk 2077 The Complete Official Guide standard paperback (ISBN 9781911015772) at 464 pages and the Collector’s Edition hardcover (ISBN 9781911015765) at 496 pages. Both editions are dated December 10, 2020. The publisher describes walkthroughs, annotated maps and a mission-unlock roadmap; each guide includes a code for its Premium interactive map, and the hardcover listing says that map includes Dogtown.
Those books predate Update 2.5 and cannot account for later quest changes or restore a marker. Treat their printed unlock information as historical reference, then confirm current requirements in the game’s Journal and current update notes.

What is the safest order for fixing a missing objective?
Follow the least destructive path first. This order keeps your evidence intact while addressing the most common selection and unlock explanations before save recovery.
- Classify the symptom: absent Journal entry, untracked job, missing route, unchanged objective or route switching.
- Check the Journal: select the intended job, confirm tracking and read the current objective.
- Check prerequisites: inspect related jobs, required missions and any stated Street Cred or message condition.
- Try reversible triggers: update, leave the area, start another quest, skip 24 in-game hours and revisit the objective.
- Preserve saves: keep the affected save and test a save from before the failure.
- Verify files: use the applicable storefront’s repair or verification command.
- Isolate modifications: remove suspected mods with their dependencies and retest.
- Escalate with evidence: provide quest details, platform, version, modifications and before-and-after saves.
This sequence cannot guarantee a repair: some failures are quest-state bugs, and a route that switches back to a main quest has no confirmed universal fix. It does ensure that a simple tracking mistake, an unmet prerequisite or a recoverable trigger is checked before you risk your progress.

Will reinstalling Cyberpunk 2077 restore a quest marker?
A reinstall is not established as a universal remedy for a quest state saved after the failure. Verify the installation first, keep your saves, and test a pre-failure save before considering a more disruptive reinstall.
Can I wait 24 real-world hours for a stuck quest to unlock?
No. The support suggestion is a 24-hour in-game time skip, not a requirement to leave the game running or wait a full day in real time. After skipping time, recheck the Journal and objective.
Where are Cyberpunk 2077 saves stored on Windows and Mac?
GOG lists the Windows location as %userprofile%Saved GamesCD Projekt RedCyberpunk 2077. CD PROJEKT RED’s Mac guidance lists ~/Library/Application Support/CD Projekt Red/Cyberpunk 2077/Saves; back up the folder before troubleshooting.
Does the official guide include every post-launch quest requirement?
No. The listed print editions were published in December 2020, before later updates. They can clarify the original route and unlock roadmap, but current Journal objectives and update notes take priority.
