Cyberpunk 2077 is a story-driven, open-world action-adventure RPG set in Night City. You play V, a mercenary pursuing a one-of-a-kind implant associated with immortality. The game’s premise and official platform details make it possible to answer the practical buying questions; they do not, by themselves, establish how well its writing, combat, exploration, pacing, or performance hold up. Whether it is right for you depends in part on which version you can play and whether you want its expansion.
What is Cyberpunk 2077 about?
In CD Projekt Red’s futuristic Night City, V takes on mercenary work while pursuing an implant said to be the key to immortality. PlayStation describes the game as an open-world action-adventure and says V’s choices and relationships shape the story and world. That establishes the broad premise, but not how much any individual choice changes the outcome.

The clearest reason to consider it is the combination of a Night City setting, a central mercenary story, and player choices and relationships that PlayStation says shape the story and world. If that premise appeals to you, the game has a substantial single-player storyline, with multiple endings and additional content available. Whether the writing, combat, exploration, pacing, and moment-to-moment performance suit you is a matter of firsthand experience; the official information available here is not enough to rate those qualities or promise a particular experience on every platform.

What comes with Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition?
Official publisher materials describe Ultimate Edition as bundling the base game and Phantom Liberty, along with updates released for the game. Exact contents and availability can vary by platform and storefront, so check the specific listing before purchase.
Phantom Liberty adds a story campaign in Dogtown. Its premise involves V working with secret agent Solomon Reed amid political maneuvering and divided loyalties. PlayStation also lists the expansion separately from Ultimate Edition, so buyers who already own the base game should check their platform’s listing rather than assuming the bundle is the only way to get it. Edition details differ by platform
- Nintendo Switch 2: CD Projekt Red says its Ultimate Edition includes the base game, Phantom Liberty, and updates released since launch. The publisher also describes Switch 2-specific motion controls, touchscreen menu navigation, and mouse and gyro controls. - Mac: The publisher’s July 2025 announcement described Ultimate Edition as including the base game, Phantom Liberty, and updates released to that point, including Update 2.3. It announced Mac availability through the Mac App Store, GOG.com, Steam, and Epic Games Store, and said existing owners on those storefronts could download the Mac version at no additional charge. Do you need Phantom Liberty?
No: it is an expansion campaign, not the core premise of the base game. You can start with the base game if you want V’s Night City story without the additional Dogtown campaign. Ultimate Edition is the relevant bundle if you want both the base game and the expansion together; verify its contents on your platform’s storefront.

Yes, PlayStation’s US page lists the base game for PS4, but its support has a firm limit: the PS4 version received its last patch on November 8, 2022. PlayStation says a PS5 is required for patches released after that date and for Phantom Liberty. This support note applies to PlayStation and should not be generalized to other platforms. Can your PC run Cyberpunk 2077?
CD Projekt Red’s requirements page says its Update 2.0 PC requirements apply to both the base game and Phantom Liberty. The figures below are publisher targets, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee of performance on every system. What about Battle.net availability?
On September 14, 2026, CD Projekt announced that Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, and Ultimate Edition were planned for Battle.net later in 2026.
