In its May 28, 2025 announcement, CD PROJEKT said the team had completed the project’s conceptual phase several weeks earlier and that the game had progressed to preproduction. The announcement is the latest sequel-stage information among the cited company updates; it does not establish the game’s status in 2026.

Is Project Orion now called Cyberpunk 2?
Project Orion was the sequel project’s codename. In the 2025 announcement, CD PROJEKT called the game “Cyberpunk 2 – previously known under the codename Project Orion.” That is the company’s wording for the project, not confirmation that Cyberpunk 2 is its final name at release.

When is the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel coming out?

What can you play while waiting?
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is an option for playing the existing game and its Phantom Liberty expansion. CD PROJEKT’s history says the edition was released in physical and digital distribution and includes both adventures: CD PROJEKT company history. It is not the sequel or a preorder for it.
CD PROJEKT also reported that Phantom Liberty had sold over 10 million copies in its May 28, 2025 announcement. That figure is an expansion sales milestone, not a statistic about the sequel’s development.
