Rasetsu is the strongest all-around pick in this ranking for players who want a powerful, distinctive rifle; Breakthrough is a compelling choice for shots through cover, while Overwatch remains the clearest fit for stealth. The best option depends on your build and preferred way of fighting, not a single universal damage number.
This is a role-based comparison for the Update 2.0-era weapon system and the named rifles covered in a secondary guide updated for version 2.3. It includes Phantom Liberty weapons, so access to the expansion matters. The available evidence does not establish an official, exhaustive roster or a controlled test of current rifle performance; treat the ordering as an editorial guide rather than a measured DPS ranking.

How this ranking works
Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0 changed core gameplay systems, made weapon damage scale by Tier, and altered some Iconic weapon effects. That makes older launch-era damage comparisons unreliable as a guide to a later build. CD PROJEKT RED also says the game now represents its most important stats with bars to make comparison easier; those bars are useful context, not a complete ranking method.

Every sniper rifle in the working roster, ranked
The list covers both the base game and Phantom Liberty. Expansion access can affect which options are available. Because the roster is not verified as exhaustive for every edition and build, “every” here means every rifle in the working comparison list—not a guarantee that no other sniper rifle exists in the version you play.
-
Rasetsu — best all-around pick
Rasetsu takes the top spot as the most appealing blend of power and a distinctive combat identity in this role-based ranking. It is a strong first choice if you want a high-impact precision rifle that feels different from a conventional long-range weapon. Its position is an editorial judgment, not a result from a current-build damage test.
-
Breakthrough — best for shots through cover
Breakthrough is the specialist pick for players who want to hit enemies behind cover. That effect can make it more useful than a conventional rifle when opponents are protected, though it is less of a general-purpose answer if your preferred approach is to avoid combat or take straightforward exposed targets.

- Become a cyberpunk, an urban mercenary equipped with cybernetic enhancements and build your legend on the streets of Night City
- Take the riskiest job of your life and go after a prototype implant that is the key to immortality
-
Overwatch — best fit for stealth
Overwatch is the natural choice for a stealth-focused approach. It remains worth considering if you value a weapon associated with quiet, deliberate engagements over rapid follow-up shots. Do not rely on launch-era damage expectations: CD PROJEKT RED said in Patch 1.6 that Overwatch’s damage output was lowered. The note documents a historical change, not its exact current output.
-
SPT32 Grad — heavy conventional option
SPT32 Grad is a straightforward option for players who want a hard-hitting, conventional sniper-rifle role. Consider it when you prefer direct precision shooting to a weapon whose value depends on a special effect. Its placement reflects that role, not a verified damage comparison against the other rifles.
-
Nekomata — charge-based precision
Nekomata suits players willing to charge shots for deliberate precision. Charging makes timing and handling central to its feel. Patch 1.6 specifically made Nekomata easier to handle while charging, so older advice about its handling may not reflect that update. That historical note does not establish its exact behavior in every later build.

-
O’Five — a specialized combat choice
O’Five is best approached as a distinctive combat option rather than a universal stealth or precision upgrade. Choose it if its special character suits your build and the kind of encounters you expect; do not assume an Iconic effect or its numerical value is unchanged across updates.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Ashura — for deliberate, specialized shots
Ashura is a more specialized choice for players who enjoy lining up intentional shots instead of relying on quick follow-ups. It may suit a focused build, but its role makes it less of a default recommendation for every sniper user.
-
Osprey — another specialized option
Osprey belongs in the comparison for players seeking a rifle with a distinct combat role. Without a controlled current-build comparison, there is not enough evidence to claim that it outperforms the more versatile options above it.

-
Borzaya — choose for its particular feel
Borzaya is a viable alternative if its handling and effect fit your play style. Its lower position is not a claim that it has a measured damage deficit; the available evidence does not provide comparable current statistics.
-
Sparky — a niche alternative
Sparky is worth considering when its specific weapon identity appeals to you, but it is not the first recommendation for a broadly useful sniper setup. As with other Iconics, confirm how its effect works in your current build rather than treating older descriptions as definitive.

Foxhound — last in this role-based order
Foxhound rounds out this working roster. It may still suit a particular build or personal preference, but the evidence available does not establish a reason to rank it ahead of the more clearly differentiated picks for stealth, cover penetration, or general precision.

Which sniper rifle should you choose?
| Your priority | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best all-around role-based pick | Rasetsu | Ranked first here for its combination of power and a distinctive role. |
| Stealth | Overwatch | The clearest fit for quiet, deliberate engagements; remember its damage was lowered in Patch 1.6. |
| Enemies behind cover | Breakthrough | Its standout use is hitting targets through cover. |
| Charged precision | Nekomata | Designed around charged shots; Patch 1.6 made it easier to handle while charging. |
| Conventional heavy sniping | SPT32 Grad | A straightforward choice if you want a traditional precision-rifle role. |
| A specialized Iconic effect | O’Five, Ashura, Osprey, Borzaya, Sparky, or Foxhound | Choose according to the effect and handling in your current build; no controlled comparison establishes a universal winner among them. |
What changed, and how current is this ranking?
Update 2.0 introduced Tier-based weapon scaling and changed some Iconic effects, so a rifle’s value depends on the version, Tier, and build being compared. CD PROJEKT RED’s earlier Patch 1.6 notes also said sniper rifles should only be able to one-shot enemies after investment in that weapon archetype. That is a statement of design intent, not a promise that any rifle will one-shot a particular enemy in every current build.
Update 2.3, dated July 16, 2025, highlighted vehicles, AutoDrive, Photo Mode, and Mac support; its notes do not list a sniper-specific balance change. Those notes therefore do not settle whether sniper rifles received a later balance change. The available information does not establish a rifle-by-rifle sniper balance history after Update 2.3, so check the current in-game weapon details and patch notes before treating this ordering as definitive for a newer build.
Quick Recap
How to get more from a sniper rifle
- Invest in the weapon archetype. Patch 1.6’s one-shot change makes clear that sniper performance is intended to reward investment rather than operate independently of the build.
- Match the rifle to the encounter. Use a stealth-oriented option for quiet engagements, a cover-penetrating specialist for protected enemies, and a conventional rifle when you want straightforward precision.
- Compare the weapons in your own Tier and build. Update 2.0’s Tier scaling means a name alone does not determine the weapon’s performance. Check its current stats and effect in-game.
- Recheck Iconic effects after major updates. CD PROJEKT RED changed some Iconic effects in Update 2.0, so older guides may describe an earlier version.
