What’s new in Update 2.2?
CD PROJEKT RED describes Update 2.2 as an update focused on expression and personalization. Its additions cover V’s appearance, supported vehicles, Photo Mode and apartment décor. The patch notes also include gameplay and quest fixes, plus a moment-to-moment change that can bring Johnny along for a drive.

These are features introduced in Update 2.2, not a claim that it is the game’s latest version. CD PROJEKT RED’s December 10, 2024 patch notes provide the detailed feature list.
How do I customize V?
Update 2.2 adds over 100 options to the Character Creator. CD PROJEKT RED’s patch notes itemize them by category:

The same update adds a “Plain-to-Punk” slider to the Character Creator randomizer. The listed counts come from the publisher’s patch notes; they describe added options, not a count of every appearance choice in the game.
Can I change my car’s paint?
Yes, on supported vehicles. CrystalCoat, previously associated with Rayfield cars, expands to select Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra and Villefort vehicles. Update 2.2 also introduces Kiroshi’s TWINTONE feature, which lets players apply color schemes to compatible vehicles.

Compatibility is selective, not universal. Check the vehicle-specific details in the official patch notes before expecting a paint feature on a particular car. The notes identify the Mizutani Hozuki MH2 as a vehicle that requires Phantom Liberty; that does not mean the expansion is required for Update 2.2 as a whole.
What’s new in Photo Mode?
The drone camera becomes a free camera, with a greater range and new controls for collision, camera lock and precision. Players can also create more elaborate scenes by placing characters and lights.

Custom-resolution screenshots are not available on consoles: the patch notes say console captures export in standard 16:9. The custom aspect-ratio support is PC-specific.
How do Gallery and SmartFrames work?
The Gallery tab sits alongside Journal, Shards and Tarot. SmartFrames let you display Photo Mode pictures in frames in V’s apartments. CD PROJEKT RED support specifies that the PC Gallery reads PNG files from the game’s screenshots folder; on consoles, it uses the console’s gallery.

Do I need Phantom Liberty?
No. Update 2.2 is free for owners of Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official FAQ says neither Phantom Liberty nor Ultimate Edition is required, and you can continue an existing save. New players need to own the base game to access the update.

What else does Update 2.2 change?
After Act 1, Johnny may sometimes appear in the passenger seat while V drives and react to events on the road. It is an occasional addition, not a guaranteed companion in every drive.
The patch notes also list quest and gameplay fixes, including changes to quest progression text and fixes for specific Phantom Liberty quests. On PC with Intel Arrow Lake CPUs, CD PROJEKT RED says a threading-system optimization can improve performance by up to 33%. That is the publisher’s maximum claim for that CPU family, not an independently verified benchmark or a general performance estimate for all PCs.
