Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 launched on December 10, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is free for owners of the base game, works with an existing save, and does not require Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition. Its main additions are more ways to customize V and selected cars, expanded Photo Mode tools, and occasional passenger-seat visits from Johnny Silverhand after Act 1.
“Out now” refers to the original 2024 release; it does not mean Update 2.2 is the game’s current latest version. CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.2 announcement dates that release.
Who can get Update 2.2?
The update is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. CD PROJEKT RED says it is free for people who own Cyberpunk 2077’s base game. If you do not own the game, you must purchase Cyberpunk 2077 to access the update. The publisher’s Update 2.2 FAQ says Phantom Liberty and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition are not required.
Update 2.2 is not listed for Xbox One. The Xbox Series X|S edition details are distinct from the earlier-generation Xbox One platform; see Xbox Wire’s launch coverage for the Series X|S Ultimate Edition listing.

What does the update add?
More appearance options for V
CD PROJEKT RED describes the update as adding over 100 customization options. The patch notes enumerate 32 eye colors, 18 lip makeup types, 17 nail colors, 10 cheek makeup types, 16 eye makeup types, four face scars, five eyebrow shapes, four face tattoos, two body tattoos, and eight cosmetic face cyberware options. A new Plain-to-Punk slider also adjusts the Character Creator’s randomizer. These are publisher-reported counts, not independent measurements. See the official Update 2.2 patch notes.
Expanded car paint and color schemes
CrystalCoat paint customization, previously limited to Rayfield vehicles, expands to selected Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort cars. TWINTONE lets V use Kiroshi optics to scan a vehicle and save a color scheme for an in-game fee. Some schemes apply broadly; others are model-specific. Quest-linked cars, NCPD-owned vehicles, and incompatible models cannot be cloned. Compatible vehicles are marked with a spray-can icon in Autofixer.

More control in Photo Mode
Photo Mode’s drone camera becomes a free camera, with increased range and toggles for collision, camera lock, and precision. The Characters tab allows players to place up to three NPCs chosen from a list of over 20, then adjust their poses, expressions, and positions. The Lighting tab adds lights that can be spawned and adjusted.

Custom aspect ratios are available on PC only; consoles export standard 16:9 images. The Gallery draws images from the PC screenshots folder or the console’s gallery. SmartFrames let players display Photo Mode images in V’s apartments.
Johnny, quests, and technical fixes
After Act 1, Johnny may sometimes appear in the passenger seat while V drives. The patch also contains quest fixes for the base game and Phantom Liberty, gameplay corrections, miscellaneous fixes, and PC-specific changes. Its PC notes say a threading optimization can improve performance by up to 33% on Intel Arrow Lake CPUs; that is CD PROJEKT RED’s scoped claim, not a general performance guarantee.

Do you need to start a new game?
No. CD PROJEKT RED says Update 2.2 does not require a new game, so you can continue an existing save. The publisher’s FAQ also says you will not lose your progress by updating.
Why was Update 2.2 focused on customization?
CD PROJEKT RED said the Photo Mode changes drew on requests from virtual photographers. In Xbox Wire’s December 10, 2024 coverage, Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko described feedback gathered by the community team and said the requested changes shaped a feature roadmap. Lead Producer Pauline Debroux said a small group of virtual photographers gave feedback when the features reached beta.
