If Dark and Darker is crashing, stuttering, or disconnecting, start by identifying which problem you have: a crash, low or choppy FPS, a damaged-file error, or a connection problem. - Update your graphics driver using the appropriate driver software or support page for your GPU.
- Update Citrix Workspace, Overwolf, OBS Studio, and Medal Recorder if they are installed.
- If you use a SteelSeries headset, test with Sonar and Moments turned off in SteelSeries GG.

Repair the game if IRONSHIELD reports abnormal files
For the exact message “One or more game files are abnormal!”, IRONMACE directs players to repair the installation through the launcher they use. This documented route is for that file-integrity error; it is not a guaranteed fix for every crash.

Blacksmith launcher
- Open Blacksmith.
- Select the gear icon.
- Choose Scan and Repair and let the process finish.
Steam
- Open your Steam Library and right-click Dark and Darker.
- Select Properties, then Installed Files.
- Select Verify Integrity of game files and wait for Steam to complete the check.

Try reversible software and settings changes
- Close unnecessary background applications to free system resources.
- Update CPU, graphics, and audio drivers.
- Lower or adjust in-game video options and check whether performance changes.
- If the game randomly freezes while playing or loading maps, Steam advises restoring the video card’s settings to factory defaults rather than relying on an overclock or custom tuning profile.
Steam notes that meeting minimum requirements does not ensure high FPS; performance can depend on other system-specific factors. Its software troubleshooting guide covers these general checks.

When a hardware upgrade is worth considering
Consider an upgrade only if low FPS persists after software and settings checks and your PC falls short of the game’s requirements. For a Blacksmith login server error, IRONMACE says maintenance or a restriction from antivirus software, an ISP, or a VPN may be involved. Check the game’s official Discord for maintenance information. Connection errors are distinct from low FPS, so changing graphics settings is unlikely to address the documented causes.
