When DayZ standalone entered Steam Early Access on Dec. 16, 2013, it sold more than 172,000 copies in its first day. Contemporaneous coverage estimated sales above $5.1 million. That figure refers to reported sales—not audited net revenue, profit, or money confirmed to have reached Bohemia Interactive.
What DayZ sold on its first day
GameSpot reported on Dec. 18, 2013, that DayZ standalone had sold more than 172,000 copies on its first day of Early Access. GamesBeat reported the same day that sales topped $5.1 million. The reports connect the dollar estimate to the launch-day sales milestone; they do not provide an audited financial statement. GameSpot’s launch report and GamesBeat’s report are contemporaneous accounts.

Does $5.1 million mean profit or net revenue?
No. The reported $5.1 million is an estimate of sales, not a disclosed figure for profit or net revenue. The available reporting does not establish how much Bohemia Interactive retained after storefront fees, refunds, taxes, regional pricing, or other costs. It is most accurate to describe the figure as estimated launch-day sales.
How the launch-day figure differs from later milestones
In 2014, Bohemia Interactive announced that DayZ had sold more than 875,000 copies in its first three weeks. That is a later cumulative unit milestone, not another count of first-day sales. The announcement appears in Steam’s archived DayZ news feed.

Early Access launch versus full release
The 2013 milestone belongs to DayZ’s Steam Early Access launch, not its later full release. Steam dates the PC game’s full release to Dec. 13, 2018. Bohemia Interactive’s 2020 brochure also places the full PC release in 2018 and console versions in 2019. DayZ is a multiplayer survival sandbox developed and published by Bohemia Interactive; its current Steam listing describes the game and provides current product details, but today’s prices do not establish what buyers paid in 2013.
