For DEATHLOOP crashes, follow the steps for your platform: Bethesda has separate troubleshooting guides for PC crashes, PC frame-rate problems, and Xbox crashes. On PC, check system requirements before changing graphics settings. On Xbox, the documented steps address crashes; Bethesda’s guidance does not establish a specific fix for low FPS or freezing that occurs without a crash.
Start with the symptom and platform
Use the relevant path below rather than applying every fix to every problem:
- PC crash or launch failure: check requirements, updates, background apps, Steam files, and required components.
- PC low FPS or uneven performance: check the graphics adapter selected in the game, avoid Alt+Tab, and compare your whole PC with Bethesda’s targets.
- Xbox crash: try an earlier save, restart the game and console, then proceed to reinstalling without deleting saves.
- Xbox freezing or low FPS without a crash: the official Xbox article covers crashes, not a verified performance fix for these symptoms.
Check whether your PC meets DEATHLOOP’s requirements
Bethesda publishes these tiers as system targets, not independent benchmark results. Meeting a target does not guarantee the stated frame rate in every situation.
| Tier | Bethesda’s target | CPU | Memory | Graphics card | Other listed requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 1080p / 30 FPS, Low settings | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | 12 GB RAM | NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB | Windows 10 64-bit, version 1909 or later; DirectX 12; 30 GB available storage on Bethesda’s current localized requirements page |
| Recommended | 1080p / 60 FPS, High settings | Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X | 16 GB RAM | NVIDIA RTX 2060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 5700 8 GB | Windows 10 64-bit, version 1909 or later; DirectX 12; SSD storage |
| Ultra 4K | 4K / 60 FPS, Ultra settings | Intel Core i9-10900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT | 16 GB RAM | NVIDIA RTX 3080 10 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB | DirectX 12 |
These are Bethesda’s published requirements, not a guarantee of performance. Its PC system requirements list Windows 10, while Bethesda’s launch details describe availability on Windows 10/11 PC. The requirements page currently lists 30 GB available storage; Bethesda’s older FAQ gives an older 38 GB figure. Check your storefront and installed version for the space needed rather than relying on one figure.

Fix PC crashes or launch failures
- Compare the complete system with the minimum tier. Check your CPU, RAM, graphics card, Windows version, and available storage; a GPU match alone does not establish that the whole PC meets the target.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. Bethesda’s crash guidance lists NVIDIA driver 461.40 as a minimum supported version and recommends 582.28 or newer. Driver recommendations can change, so check the current crash troubleshooting page before relying on those version numbers.
- Close unnecessary background applications. Bethesda recommends reducing programs running alongside the game.
- Verify the game files in Steam. Use Steam’s file-verification option for DEATHLOOP. Bethesda notes that some local configuration files may fail verification normally; do not alter them simply because of that result.
- Check DirectX and Visual C++ components. Install the latest DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.
- Try the optional permissions and antivirus checks. Bethesda suggests running DEATHLOOP or Steam as administrator and checking that antivirus software is not blocking the game. These are troubleshooting options, not guaranteed fixes.
- Consider Bethesda’s V-Sync workaround only if needed. Turn V-Sync off in the game and enable it in your graphics-card settings. Bethesda cautions that this may not work for everyone and can affect performance.
- Escalate with diagnostic files. If crashes continue, contact Bethesda Support and provide DxDiag and MsInfo files.
Improve low or uneven FPS on PC
- Check the full system against the requirements. If the PC is below minimum, graphics-setting changes may not overcome the hardware gap.
- Start with High settings if you meet recommended requirements. Bethesda recommends High for a more consistent 60 FPS experience on recommended hardware. It says Ultra is for PCs that far exceed the recommended tier; neither is a guarantee for every scene or system.
- Select the primary graphics card. In DEATHLOOP, open Options > Visuals and confirm Video Card Selection uses the primary graphics card. This is especially relevant on systems with more than one graphics adapter.
- Avoid Alt+Tab while playing and close unnecessary background programs. Bethesda says Alt+Tab can affect frame rate.
- Update the graphics driver, Windows, and DirectX. Bethesda’s performance page lists NVIDIA driver 461.40 as the minimum supported version and 471.96 or newer as its recommendation. These numbers differ from the crash page’s recommendation, so consult the performance guidance for the current advice rather than treating the two pages as one shared driver threshold.
- Send diagnostic information if the problem remains. Bethesda directs players with persistent performance problems to contact support with DxDiag information.
Troubleshoot DEATHLOOP crashes on Xbox
Bethesda’s Xbox steps are for crashes. Try them in order, moving to the more disruptive steps only if the earlier ones do not help:
- Load an earlier save. If the crash happens at a particular point, test whether an earlier save lets you proceed.
- Fully quit and restart DEATHLOOP. A return to the home screen may not fully close a suspended game; use the console’s quit option.
- Power-cycle the console. Hold the Xbox console button for 10 seconds, unplug its power for 10 seconds, reconnect it, then restart the console.
- Reinstall the game without deleting save files. Do not choose an option that removes saved data.
- Try launching offline. If the crash persists, test whether the game launches while the console is offline.
- Contact Xbox Support if it still crashes. These steps follow Bethesda’s Xbox crash guidance.
What to do about Xbox low FPS or freezing without a crash
The available DEATHLOOP-specific Xbox support guidance does not establish a particular fix for low frame rates or freezing when the game does not crash. The crash steps above may help if the symptom is actually a crash, but they should not be treated as a confirmed Xbox performance remedy. If the console becomes unresponsive or the game repeatedly closes, use the crash path and contact Xbox Support if it continues.
