In Destiny 2’s 2024 Festival of the Lost, the main reward loop was to equip a Festival mask, earn Manifested Pages and event rewards, then run Haunted Sectors to fight Headless Ones. Bungie changed several rules on October 29, so this guide distinguishes the event’s initial announcement from its updated state. It is a historical guide, not instructions for a currently live event.
How the Festival of the Lost 2024 reward loop worked
Start the event introduction to unlock the Haunted Sectors playlist. Then equip a Festival mask and play activities to earn Manifested Pages, candy, and other event rewards. Haunted Sectors were a central activity: defeating Headless Ones and completing runs could earn candy, weapons, Eerie Engrams, and pages. Bungie’s October 24, 2024 announcement describes the original event setup.

Manifested Pages were used to complete chapters in the Book of the Forgotten, located near Eva Levante in the Tower. The initial announcement described the simplified process as no longer requiring Spectral Pages. On October 29, Bungie further clarified that pages dropped from activities across the game while wearing a Festival mask, as well as from Haunted Sectors. Defeating up to ten Headless Ones in a Haunted Sector run could earn additional pages.

Bungie’s October 29, 2024 update revised several details from the initial announcement. If following an old launch-day guide, use these later-event changes instead:

- Book chapters: Chapters in older Book of the Forgotten volumes were reduced to one Manifested Page each.
- Mask stats: Masks from the introductory quest and Expert Haunted Sectors received high, spiky stats and Masterwork level 7. Masks from base Haunted Sectors received high stats. Masks bought from Eva retained a static high-stat roll.
- Mementos: Festival Memento storage increased from one to three, and any Eerie Engram focusing option could have a chance to drop a Memento. The Twilight Memento Triumph returned with hidden objectives.
- Expert matchmaking: Matchmaking was removed from Expert Haunted Sectors, which were added to Fireteam Finder.
- Horrific Haunts: The challenge reward increased by 500 candy.
Normal or Expert Haunted Sectors?
Choose based on whether you want matchmaking or a more demanding activity. The October 24 announcement described additional Eerie Engram chances in Expert mode; the October 29 update removed its matchmaking and directed players to Fireteam Finder for teammates.

What rewards were available?
Weapons
Bungie announced Arcane Embrace as the new Festival weapon for 2024, alongside the returning Mechabre, Jurassic Green, BrayTech Werewolf, and Acosmic. Haunted Sectors were among the event’s reward sources, and Eerie Engrams could be opened for rewards or focused into Festival weapons.

Eerie Engrams and Exotic armor
Eerie Engrams could be opened or focused into Festival weapons and certain Exotic armor. Bungie also announced that Eva Levante would sell Exotic Class Items for one Eerie Engram and 2,500 candy. Selected attunement perks were guaranteed when attunement was unlocked.

Masks and Mementos
Mask rewards differed by source after the October 29 update: quest and Expert Haunted Sector masks had high, spiky stats and Masterwork level 7; base Haunted Sector masks had high stats; and Eva’s purchased masks had a static high-stat roll. The same update raised Festival Memento storage to three and made any Eerie Engram focusing option a possible Memento source.

Bungie’s October 31, 2024 post described a Headless Ones-themed T-shirt as a Bungie Rewards item. To unlock it, players had to complete the Haunted Sector Playlist Event Challenge by 8:59 AM PST on November 19, 2024, and complete the purchase by December 31, 2024.
