Destiny 2’s 2022 Guardian Games ran from May 3 through May 24 and were free for all players. Hunters, Titans and Warlocks competed by earning medallions in activities and depositing them at the Tower Podium; a separate strike-scoring contest added daily playlist challenges, Tower torches and armor glows. The details below apply to the 2022 event, not later editions.
When did Guardian Games 2022 start and end?
Bungie’s 2022 event ran from May 3 to May 24. It was free for all Destiny 2 players. Its dates, playlists, reward rules and medal system were specific to that edition and should not be assumed to describe a later Guardian Games.

Bungie’s April 28, 2022 announcement introduced the event and its core activities.
How did Guardian Games medallions work?
The class competition had a straightforward loop: earn medallions through activities or event cards, then deposit them at the Podium in the Tower. Deposits added to the total for your class—Hunter, Titan or Warlock. Bungie described Contender and Platinum Cards as mini-quests that offered additional routes to medals.

- Earn a medallion. Activity difficulty and the card type affected the medal tier available; tougher content was associated with higher-tier medals.
- Return to the Tower. Deposit the medal at the Guardian Games Podium to contribute to your class total.
Lower-difficulty and higher-difficulty routes
Lower-tier medals were available through broadly accessible activities, including Gambit, Vanguard Strikes, Quickplay Crucible and standard Throne World activities. Contender Cards offered Gold medals through easier activities. Higher-tier medals were associated with raids, dungeons, competitive PvP—including Trials of Osiris and Survival—and higher-difficulty PsiOps Battlegrounds; Platinum Cards were the card route for tougher content.
Bungie’s announcement described categories and examples, not a complete activity-by-activity medal or point table. It did not establish a universal best activity for medals per hour, so the practical choice depended on what you could reliably complete and whether you preferred accessible participation or more challenging content.
How did Guardian Games strike scoring work?
In 2022, Guardian Games introduced scoring in its dedicated strike playlists, along with Strike Medals for notable combat feats. Bungie said scores took play time in those playlists into account, while also describing medals for impressive actions. The system therefore rewarded more than simply rushing through a strike: combat performance, survival and finishing promptly all mattered.

Training and Competitive schedules
- Training: Tuesday through Thursday. Players earned scores in the event playlist.
- Competitive: Friday through Monday. This playlist offered rewards and used score thresholds for the Tower torch progression.
Playlist buffs lasted until the weekly reset and could also be used in regular Vanguard Ops. Bungie did not publish a complete point formula in its announcement, so there is no supported basis for assigning exact values to specific actions or declaring speed alone the winning strategy.

Reaching score thresholds let players light Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum torches in the Tower. Torch lighting granted rewards and a glow on the right shoulder. Separately, personal medallion deposits contributed to a glow on the left shoulder. These were distinct progress tracks within the 2022 event.
What rewards were available in Guardian Games 2022?
In-game rewards
Bungie highlighted The Title, a new legendary Void submachine gun for the Energy slot, plus class items and another opportunity to obtain Heir Apparent and its catalyst. Bungie Test Lead Jason Briggs described The Title as “a Hakke Void SMG for the Energy slot that is an aggressive frame with a unique origin perk, Classy Contender, which grants class ability energy with final blows from this weapon.”

Strike-score thresholds also provided rewards as players progressed through the Tower torch tiers. Personal deposits and class competition were part of the wider event, but the available source does not establish a complete item-by-item reward table or drop rates.
Physical commemoratives through Bungie Rewards
Bungie said players who lit two Platinum torches could purchase a Guardian Games Tankard, while players who lit four could purchase a Guardian Games Medal through Bungie Rewards. These were 2022 eligibility-linked offers. That announcement does not establish present-day stock or availability, and it did not describe an Amazon listing.

The Guardian Games Cup was a separate, out-of-game creator team competition held alongside the in-game event. Bungie reported that it involved 42 teams across 14 territories and raised $222,835 for Direct Relief in partnership with the Bungie Foundation.

The Cup tracked medallions earned and deposited during teams’ scheduled scoring periods. Bungie later explained that it corrected an early scoring issue that had counted total deposits rather than only medallions earned during the slot. This charity competition was distinct from the ordinary Hunter-versus-Titan-versus-Warlock class leaderboard.
