“Into the Abyss” refers here to Operation Fulgurite (Abyss), the Week 3 story mission in Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep—not the separate Deep Dive activity. Bungie’s Content Vault archive lists the mission under Year 7; as of October 8, 2026, current access is not established. Bungie says seasonal content moves to the vault when a new expansion launches, though its eventual return remains possible. Check Bungie’s Content Vault listing before looking for a launch point.
Where to start Operation Fulgurite
Historically, Operation Fulgurite was part of the Season of the Deep “Into the Depths” questline on Titan. In Week 3, the quest sequence had players speak with Saladin at the H.E.L.M. holoprojector, then launch Operation Fulgurite. The mission had no matchmaking, according to Shacknews’ contemporary walkthrough, so plan to enter solo or with a fireteam rather than relying on automatic matchmaking. See Shacknews’ historical quest walkthrough.

Season of the Deep began May 23 and ended August 22, 2023. Bungie’s season page describes its story as a response to a distress call on Titan, leading Guardians into the moon’s methane ocean to uncover secrets and disrupt Hive and Taken rituals. Those dates and entry details describe the original season, not a present-day route to launch the vaulted mission. Bungie’s Season of the Deep overview.
What the mission involves
At a high level, Operation Fulgurite asks you to bank coral, fight Taken, and defeat a final boss. That is the useful spoiler-light outline; the available historical guides do not establish a complete sequence of traversal steps or every encounter mechanic. Gamepur’s Into the Depths walkthrough summarizes the mission’s core loop.

How to handle the encounters
Prepare for the Taken section
Shacknews describes a dense add-clear stretch. Bring weapons that can deal with groups efficiently, plus an option for tougher miniboss enemies. The guide does not establish any particular weapon as mandatory.
Manage the Knight’s three damage phases
The final Knight encounter is described as a three-phase fight: clear enemies, damage the boss, then repeat. If you are playing solo, Shacknews recommends saving your Super for the third phase. This is published guide advice, not a guarantee that every build or fireteam needs the same timing.

What comes after Operation Fulgurite
In the historical Week 3 quest sequence, completing the mission was followed by a Deep Dive, a conversation at the H.E.L.M., delivering coral to Sloane, and speaking with Sloane at the holoprojector. These were subsequent quest steps, not objectives within Operation Fulgurite itself.
Operation Fulgurite versus Deep Dive
These are separate Season of the Deep content types, despite their shared Titan setting. Operation Fulgurite is a weekly story mission in the Into the Depths questline. Deep Dive is a seasonal activity; Bungie’s historical page described it as playable solo or with up to three players. That activity’s player-count description should not be mistaken for matchmaking guidance for Operation Fulgurite.

Can you still play it?
Bungie’s Content Vault page currently places Season of the Deep and Operation Fulgurite (Abyss) in its Year 7 archive. Bungie’s policy says seasonal content remains available through the current expansion and moves into the Content Vault when a new expansion launches; it also leaves open the possibility that vaulted content may return. The archive does not establish that this mission can currently be launched, so do not assume buying a particular edition or item will unlock it. Review the current archive and vault policy.
