Bungie Help’s June 17, 2026 guidance says an initial clear on the higher difficulty shown in your game can award the catalyst; the old weekly Vault-puzzle schedule is no longer required for it. The Vault puzzles still matter for Outbreak Perfected’s intrinsic upgrades, while Ada-1’s switch quests unlock additional craftable perks.
What you need to know before starting
“Outbreak Prime” is the earlier weapon name. The Destiny 2 weapon covered here is Outbreak Perfected. Bungie brought Zero Hour back as a reprised Exotic mission in Into the Light, launched April 9, 2024, and describes Outbreak Perfected as craftable. Bungie’s Into the Light announcement covers the return; Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault page provides the earlier availability context.

Before launching, open Zero Hour’s activity details and check the difficulty labels and reward text currently displayed in your game client. “Heroic” is legacy wording; the Bungie Help guidance discussed below refers to Expert/Master. Follow the higher-difficulty option and reward description available to you rather than assuming an old guide’s label or instructions still apply.
How to get the Outbreak Perfected catalyst
- Launch Zero Hour on the higher difficulty shown in your client, and read its reward details before starting.
- Complete the mission for your initial clear on that difficulty.
- Check the mission rewards and Outbreak Perfected’s catalyst progress in-game. Bungie Help’s June 17, 2026 reply says the initial Expert/Master clear can award Outbreak, The Corruption Spreads II, and the catalyst. It also says the former weekly rollout of Vault puzzles is no longer required for the catalyst. Read the Bungie Help reply.
The forum guidance does not establish one universal current label across every game-client view. Use the higher difficulty and reward text you actually see, and do not treat old “Heroic” or weekly-reset instructions as current requirements.

What the Ada-1 quests and Vault puzzles unlock
These are separate upgrade paths, not extra steps for the catalyst:

The Bungie Help responses establish the rewards and that the intrinsic stages need not be spread across weekly resets. They do not provide a verified current symbol sequence or a room-by-room puzzle route. For exact inputs, consult a current puzzle chart or walkthrough that matches the mission as it appears in your game.

Do you need to kill the boss after solving the intrinsic puzzles?
A June 2026 Bungie Help reply says players have reportedly received remaining intrinsic tiers after completing the puzzle portion without killing the boss. That is a report in a forum reply, not a formal mission guide. Treat it as an unconfirmed possibility, not a reliable substitute for completing the activity and checking your weapon’s unlocks.

An older community-wiki entry describes a catalyst upgrade involving 500 precision final blows, SIVA Particulate from Heroic Zero Hour, and five weekly clears. That legacy account is not confirmed by the newer Bungie Help guidance for the reprised activity, so it should not be used as a current requirement. See the legacy wiki entry.

The current catalyst masterwork requirement is not established by the Bungie Help pages cited here. Check the catalyst’s objective in your game for the requirement that applies to your version; do not confuse acquiring the catalyst with completing its masterwork objective.
