A locked loadout in one Destiny 2 activity does not necessarily mean Bungie has disabled the Loadouts feature. As of October 8, 2026, Bungie’s Disabled Items page says there are no disabled items, while its Year 8 known-issues page lists a specific saved-loadout error involving older weapon versions that were later upgraded. The message’s wording and where it appears help distinguish these cases.
What “Locked Loadout” can mean
Bungie describes Locked Loadout as an activity stake in the Portal: a rule that can prevent gear swapping during that activity and affect scoring. Bungie also describes customizable activity restrictions such as weapon-category limits and requirements involving new or featured armor. These are activity rules, not a general declaration that players’ loadout slots are disabled. Bungie said these restriction modifiers are not randomized in matchmade activities in its August 21, 2025 This Week in Destiny.

If the lock appears only after you enter or select a particular activity, inspect that activity’s modifiers first. A restriction scoped to an activity is different from missing slots or inaccessible Loadouts throughout the interface.
What Bungie’s current status pages say
No items are currently listed as disabled
Bungie’s live Disabled Items list explains that items may be disabled for specific activities or game-wide, and that disabled items cannot be equipped. As of October 8, 2026, it states: “Currently, there are no disabled items in Destiny 2.” This is a statement about disabled items; it does not rule out activity restrictions or a problem with loadout functionality.

A known error concerns upgraded weapons in saved loadouts
Bungie’s Year 8 Known Issues and Vital Information page lists a case where equipping a saved loadout that contains an older version of a weapon, subsequently upgraded, may produce the message “Contains items with invalid mods.” The page describes its issue list as targeted rather than complete. Bungie’s entry does not establish that this wording, or any other loadout lock, has the same cause.

What past fixes do—and do not—show
Bungie’s July 22, 2025 Update 9.0.0.3 says it fixed an issue that made extra loadout slots inaccessible to some players. The update also says restrictions in Cutting Edge were made to apply properly. These notes confirm that slot access and activity restrictions have each had distinct issues in the past; they do not establish a current widespread outage.

There is also a historical example of the whole feature being temporarily unavailable. A BungieHelp notice reproduced in the August 22, 2023 Bungie.net Help Forum thread “Why are my loadouts locked?” said Loadouts had been temporarily disabled and would appear locked behind Guardian Ranks, while existing loadouts remained available to players who had already unlocked them. That notice explains an earlier symptom; it is not a current status announcement.

- Identify where the message appears. If it is limited to an activity, open that activity’s details and read its modifiers before treating it as a feature outage.
- Record the exact error text. If it says “Contains items with invalid mods,” compare the saved loadout with the weapon version you have upgraded and check Bungie’s current known-issues entry.
- Check the live Disabled Items list if an item itself is unavailable. Its status is time-sensitive, and a no-disabled-items status does not address every loadout problem.
- If slots or all Loadouts controls are inaccessible, check Bungie’s current known issues and official support updates. Older patch notes and the 2023 notice document past cases, not a universal diagnosis for a new one.
The official material cited here does not establish one fix for every locked or disabled loadout screen. It also does not support assuming that ranking up, changing characters, or buying hardware will resolve an issue unless Bungie gives that guidance for the specific case.
