Dead Man’s Tale is Presage’s signature Exotic, but the mission’s associated legendary weapons cover several distinct roles. Bungie’s official August 2023 reward announcement names Dead Man’s Tale and several Season of the Haunted and Opulent weapons; it is a dated list, not confirmation of the complete current pool. This ranking weighs practical usefulness across PvE and PvP, while treating the legendary pool and its present drop behavior as unconfirmed where official sources do not settle them.
Which weapons are associated with Presage?
Bungie’s August 10, 2023 announcement for the Exotic Mission Rotator identified Dead Man’s Tale as Presage’s Exotic and listed weapons from Season of the Haunted and Season of Opulence among its rewards. Specifically named legendary examples were Bump in the Night, Austringer, Drang (Baroque) and CALUS Mini-Tool. Bungie’s announcement is a dated reward reference, not a verified, exhaustive table of what drops today.

A March 2026 post on Bungie.net’s player forums reports drops of Austringer, Firefright, Tears of Contrition, Beloved, Drang (Baroque), Hollow Denial, Without Remorse, Nezarec’s Whisper, Bump in the Night and CALUS Mini-Tool. That is one player’s account, not an official confirmation of the complete loot pool. The player report can be a clue to possible drops, but should not be treated as a guarantee.
Neither source establishes an exact current drop rate, a guaranteed pattern count, a weekly lockout or a complete 2026 reward list. The ranking below covers the Exotic and legendary weapons named in these sources, with the player-reported additions clearly identified as anecdotal.

How this ranking works
This is a practical ranking, not an official Bungie tier list or a claim about measured weapon performance. Broad usefulness across activities gets more weight than strength in one narrow situation; a weapon can still rank highly if it offers a distinctive role. The order distinguishes PvE from PvP uses and considers role, ease of use, perk flexibility and how readily a weapon can fit a loadout. No verified current pattern or perk details are available here for the listed legendary drops, so the ranking does not assume a specific roll or craftability.
Presage weapons, ranked
1. Dead Man’s Tale — Exotic Scout Rifle
Best for: players who want a precision-focused Scout Rifle, especially for PvP duels.
Dead Man’s Tale is the mission’s signature Exotic. Bungie describes its Cranial Spike trait as granting bonus target acquisition, range, rounds reloaded and damage against combatants after chained precision hits. Bungie’s item record documents that trait; it is the clearest official weapon-specific detail available for this list.
Its place at the top reflects the combination of an identifiable precision-dueling role and a documented trait that rewards accurate follow-up hits. The trait’s damage benefit is specifically described as applying against combatants, so it should not be read as a PvP damage bonus. Players who prefer close-range add clear or a heavy-damage role may value a different weapon more.
2. CALUS Mini-Tool — legendary SMG
Best for: close-range PvE add clear.
CALUS Mini-Tool is among the Opulent weapons named in Bungie’s August 2023 announcement. As an SMG, its natural role is close-range pressure and clearing groups of weaker enemies. Its ranking is based on that accessible role, not a claim that a particular roll is currently obtainable or best-in-slot. The cited reward announcement does not establish a current perk pool or crafting status.
3. Austringer — legendary hand cannon
Best for: precision play and hand-cannon users who want a weapon that can serve in PvP or general PvE.
Rank #2
- Online only and requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
- An incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
- Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.
- Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre and breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
Austringer was specifically named in Bungie’s 2023 list. Its hand-cannon archetype makes it a natural fit for deliberate, precision-focused play, particularly in duels. Its broad familiarity gives it a versatile place in the ranking, but the available sources do not document its current perks, craftability or relative performance against other hand cannons.
4. Drang (Baroque) — legendary sidearm
Best for: close-range precision and players who prefer sidearms to SMGs.
Recommended Free Tools
Drang (Baroque) appears in Bungie’s dated list and in the 2026 player report. Its sidearm role overlaps with the Mini-Tool’s close-range use, but the weapon type can suit players who prefer a more deliberate sidearm feel. No verified current perk or pattern information is established by the cited sources, so its ranking reflects role rather than a particular build.
5. Bump in the Night — legendary rocket launcher
Best for: a heavy-slot burst-damage option in PvE.
Bungie named Bump in the Night in its 2023 reward announcement. Rocket launchers are used for concentrated burst damage, making this the clearest heavy-weapon role among the officially named examples. The available evidence does not verify a current roll, damage comparison or exact Presage drop behavior, so this placement is about loadout role rather than a claim that it outperforms other launchers.
6. Beloved — legendary sniper rifle (player-reported)
Best for: players who want a long-range precision option, particularly in PvP.
Beloved appears in the March 2026 player report, not in the cited official 2023 examples. As a sniper rifle, its role is distinct from the close-range and heavy options above. Its inclusion here is conditional on that anecdotal report; the report does not prove it is part of a complete or guaranteed current pool.

7. Firefright — legendary auto rifle (player-reported)
Best for: sustained primary-weapon fire in PvE or PvP.
Firefright is another weapon named only in the March 2026 forum post. An auto rifle offers a sustained-fire alternative to precision-focused hand cannons and scouts. Its position reflects that general role, not verified current perks or comparative performance.
8. Tears of Contrition — legendary scout rifle (player-reported)
Best for: players who want a primary weapon suited to longer sightlines.
The same player report lists Tears of Contrition. Its Scout Rifle role overlaps with Dead Man’s Tale, but it is a legendary weapon rather than the mission’s Exotic. The sources cited here do not establish its Presage availability beyond that single report, or provide a current perk or crafting comparison.
9. Hollow Denial — legendary trace rifle (player-reported)
Best for: sustained beam damage and players looking for a special-ammo option.
Hollow Denial is included in the forum report, not the named examples in Bungie’s 2023 announcement. A trace rifle offers a different feel from conventional bullet-firing weapons, but no current drop or perk details are confirmed by the cited evidence.

10. Without Remorse — legendary shotgun (player-reported)
Best for: close-range engagements.
Without Remorse appears in the March 2026 anecdote. Its shotgun role is the shortest-range option among the reported weapons, potentially useful in close-quarters encounters, but the evidence here does not establish a guaranteed drop or a preferred roll.
11. Nezarec’s Whisper — legendary glaive (player-reported)
Best for: players who want a glaive’s distinct mix of ranged attacks and close-range utility.

The forum post also reports Nezarec’s Whisper. Its role is sufficiently different from the other listed weapons to interest players who want a glaive, but its presence in the current Presage pool remains anecdotal in the available evidence.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose what to pursue
- For a precision-focused Exotic: start with Dead Man’s Tale; its official trait description centers on chained precision hits.
- For close-range PvE clearing: consider CALUS Mini-Tool or Drang (Baroque), based on whether you prefer an SMG or sidearm.
- For a heavy burst-damage role: Bump in the Night is the rocket launcher among the rewards specifically named by Bungie in 2023.
- For PvP precision options: Dead Man’s Tale, Austringer and the player-reported Beloved fill distinct Scout Rifle, hand-cannon and sniper roles.
- For an unusual weapon type: the player-reported Hollow Denial and Nezarec’s Whisper offer trace-rifle and glaive roles, respectively, but their Presage drops are not officially confirmed here.
These are role-based recommendations, not a guarantee that each weapon is currently available to earn or that a particular roll can be obtained.
Where to find Presage in the current Director
Bungie’s June 9, 2026 Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 Support Guide says the Legends node has been deprecated and Exotic missions are launched from Pinnacle Ops or the Raids and Dungeons node. It does not specify Presage’s individual menu placement. Check the live Director rather than relying on an older Legends-node route.
The same guide says planned live-service content updates ended with Update 9.7.0 on June 9, 2026, while allowing for possible stability hotfixes. That status does not establish that Presage’s rewards or drop behavior are fixed; the guide does not enumerate the mission’s loot pool.

Presage is also a Season of the Haunted story experience. Bungie’s season overview describes Calus returning aboard the Leviathan in pursuit of the nightmarish power of the Lunar Pyramid. Bungie’s Season of the Haunted overview provides that context.
In its 2021 development article, Presage: Building an Omen, Bungie described the story as “a story about a failed communion, a voice within the Darkness, and the price Calus paid for indulging in his wounded pride.” The development article frames the mission as narrative as well as loot content.
