Players did report losing the ability to crouch—and, in some accounts, slide—during Operation: Seraph’s Shield, sometimes preventing them from entering a vent and progressing. Bungie recorded a fix for the crouching issue in Update 7.2.0.1 on August 22, 2023. The reports are historical; they do not establish that the bug is currently recurring.
What players experienced
January 2023 forum posts describe characters who could no longer crouch during the mission. One player said the problem began after picking up the first Scanner augment and left them unable to enter a shaft. Another described losing crouch or slide during a Legendary run on PS5—once after depositing Scanner and once near the launch pods—and said the fireteam could not crouch through vents. A separate post described being unable to crouch through a vent to advance.

These accounts document reported symptoms and timing, not a technical diagnosis. They do not show that Scanner caused the problem, how often it occurred, or how many players were affected. Bungie has not published a player count in the cited material.
What Bungie says was fixed
In its August 22, 2023 Update 7.2.0.1 notes, Bungie stated: “Fixed an issue preventing the player from crouching in the Exotic mission Operation: Seraph’s Shield.” Read Bungie’s Update 7.2.0.1 notes.

That is the clearest official record of the crouch problem and its resolution. The notes specifically name crouching; player posts also mentioned sliding, but the official entry does not separately describe a slide fix.
Do the later Seraph’s Shield patch notes mean the bug returned?
No evidence in the cited notes says it did. Bungie’s June 23, 2026 Update 9.7.0.2 lists a different Seraph’s Shield fix: players with uncapped framerate settings could die unexpectedly. That entry concerns unexpected deaths, not crouching or sliding. Read Bungie’s Update 9.7.0.2 notes.

The available sources do not verify crouch behavior on every platform and configuration as of October 2026. The historical reports should not be treated as proof of a current widespread issue.

Because these are community suggestions rather than tested remedies, they are best understood as things players tried or proposed during the historical reports—not as instructions that Bungie endorsed.
