Beast in the Ice waits in the Glacial Fissure in the Fractured Peaks. In the current Season 15 guidance, you can fight without a summoning material, then spend a Lair Key to open the reward Hoard. Key costs and loot rules have changed between seasons, so check the in-game Hoard prompt before you commit to a run.
Where to find Beast in the Ice
Travel to the Glacial Fissure in the Desolate Highlands, south of Kyovashad, in the Fractured Peaks. The entrance is the lair for this boss. Wowhead’s Season 13 guide identifies the location; check your map for the lair marker.

What you need to fight and claim the reward
Entering the fight and opening the reward Hoard are separate steps. Blizzard’s Season 8 rules classify Beast in the Ice as an Initiate Lair Boss and say boss materials are no longer needed to summon Lair Bosses; each player instead spends keys individually to open their own Hoard after the kill. The Season 15 Icy Veins guide describes the current cost as one Lair Key.
The quantity is season-sensitive: Blizzard’s Season 8 notes and a Season 13 guide list 12 keys, while the Season 15 guide lists one. Do not rely on the older figure as current. Read the Hoard prompt in-game for the cost that applies to your season. Blizzard’s Season 8 notes also required Torment I or higher for any Lair Boss; because that is a dated requirement, confirm the current difficulty gate in-game.

How to beat Beast in the Ice
The encounter combines cold and physical attacks, marked ground hazards, storm lanes, and summoned enemies. Keep moving, watch attack tells, and use the stagger window: filling the boss’s stagger bar briefly stuns it, giving you time to deal damage. A build with reliable single-target damage and enough survivability is useful; no particular class or build is mandatory.
Recognize the attacks
- Frozen Strike: The boss swings and sends crystals outward that split into smaller projectiles. Dodge early to avoid the initial hit and the shatter.
- Icy Breath: When it inhales, leave the frontal cone. The breath can freeze you.
- Ground Slam and frost circles: Move out of marked circles before spikes fall from above.
- Aerial Slam: Clear the landing area, then avoid the follow-up ice projectiles.
- Storm lanes: During the airborne phase, the arena is divided into lanes. Move into the safe lane and stay clear of the surrounding storm.
- Adds: Kill summoned enemies during the airborne phase so they do not build up while the boss is away.
Manage the fight’s phases
A Season 13 guide describes two main phases and two intermissions, beginning at 66% and 33% health. Its phase outline also emphasizes frost waves, adds, and finding the safe line in the arena. Attack tuning can change with patches, so prioritize the visible tells and safe areas over memorizing an old health threshold.

Beast in the Ice rewards
The Season 15 guide says the first Unique in the reward Hoard is guaranteed to come from Beast in the Ice’s boss-specific pool. Each additional Unique has a 50% chance to come from the general Unique pool. Blizzard’s Season 8 notes describe those pool rules and say each additional party member increases the chance of an extra Unique by 33%; treat that party bonus as a Season 8 rule unless current in-game information confirms it still applies.
