Codex Aspects can be reused; you do not need to extract a one-use Aspect item from every Legendary.
How to get Aspects in Diablo 4
- Find a Legendary item. Its Aspect is the power you can add to the Codex by salvaging it.
- Take it to a Blacksmith and salvage it. The Aspect is stored in the Codex of Power for reuse. Blizzard describes the Codex as a searchable collection with filters and favorites. Blizzard’s Season 4 itemization overview explains the salvage-and-store system.
- Check the Codex entry. Salvaging a Legendary with a stronger version of an Aspect upgrades the stored version. Compare the value shown in the Codex with the power on the item before deciding what to salvage.
Dungeon unlocks are not the whole Codex: salvaging Legendaries is also a way to add and improve stored Aspects. For a particular Aspect’s unlock source and the value currently available to your character, check its entry in the in-game Codex; a complete, current unlock list is not established here.

How to imprint an Aspect onto equipment
- Visit an Occultist and choose the imprint option.
- Select the item you want to change, then choose an Aspect from the Codex. The Occultist’s selection screen indicates which powers you already have equipped.
- Review the Aspect’s tooltip and the resulting item details, then confirm the imprint if it fits your build and slot.
Blizzard documents the Blacksmith-to-Occultist workflow, but the exact interface sequence and costs are not specified here and may vary with the current game version. Follow the prompts shown in your game.

An Aspect’s effect can be stronger when imprinted on certain item types. Blizzard patch notes call out increased power on Amulets, Two-Handed Weapons, and Ancestral items, but this is not a universal multiplier for every Aspect. Read the individual Aspect tooltip and compare the actual values for the item you plan to use. Blizzard’s Patch 2.3 notes discuss the item-slot descriptions.

What to know about current Codex behavior
The salvage-and-reuse system remains relevant in current Diablo 4 updates: Blizzard’s 2026 Patch 2.6 notes include a fix for higher Aspect rolls being filtered out, and its 2026 Season of Hell’s Legacy announcement discusses Legendary drop rates and Codex progression. These updates confirm that rolls and seasonal tuning can matter; they do not provide a complete Aspect-by-Aspect unlock guide. Check current in-game information for the available value and season-specific details. Blizzard’s Diablo IV patch notes cover the Patch 2.6 fix, and the Season of Hell’s Legacy announcement describes its progression tuning.
Seasonal and Eternal Realm behavior can also be version-sensitive. Blizzard’s Season 4 article says the Seasonal Codex transfers to Eternal at season end, preserving the higher value when the same Aspect is already learned there. Check current in-game wording for the details that apply to your character and season.
