On Seasonal Realm characters, you currently cannot make or use elixirs: Wowhead reports that Elixirs and Incense were removed from Seasonal realms with the Lord of Hatred expansion. Its current Alchemist guide reports one legacy Elixir of Iron Barbs remains on Eternal realms, but that item’s current availability and use behavior have not been officially verified. If you’re asking where to craft elixirs, the answer depends on your realm—and old craft-and-drink instructions no longer apply to Seasonal characters.
Can you make elixirs in Diablo 4 now?
For a Seasonal Realm character, no. [Wowhead’s current Alchemist guide] reports that Elixirs and Incense were removed from Seasonal realms with the Lord of Hatred expansion. That means there are no current Seasonal elixir recipes to select at the Alchemist, and no elixirs to craft or use there.

The reported Eternal Realm exception is a legacy Elixir of Iron Barbs. This is a claim from Wowhead’s guide, not a point confirmed by the official patch notes cited here; its exact current availability and use behavior remain unverified. Do not assume that Seasonal and Eternal characters have identical elixir options.

For current Seasonal play, the Alchemist’s documented role includes converting crafting materials rather than offering elixir recipes. Blizzard’s 2.5 patch notes list conversions such as Rawhide and Iron Chunks into Veiled Crystals, and Veiled Crystals into Forgotten Souls or Legendary Salvage. They also state that conversion recipes for legacy materials that are exclusive to Eternal realms do not appear for Seasonal characters.

Healing Potion upgrades are a separate change
Elixir removal should not be confused with Healing Potion upgrades. In its Season of Divine Intervention announcement, Blizzard says, “Healing Potion upgrades have been removed considering Potions are now a portion of your overall Health, still stop by to say hi to the Alchemist sometime though.” That statement concerns Healing Potion upgrades; it is not Blizzard’s confirmation of the reported elixir removal.
Why old elixir guides say to craft and drink them
Older guides describe a former system: choose an available recipe at the Alchemist, pay its listed gold and materials, then consume the resulting elixir for a temporary effect. Those steps are historical guidance, not instructions for a current Seasonal character.

For example, PC Gamer’s 2023 elixir guide described elixirs as single-use consumables that formerly lasted 30 minutes, with only one active at a time. It also cited a 5% experience gain for a common experience bonus, while noting that effects varied by elixir. Those figures describe the older system; they are not current Seasonal durations or bonuses, and the guide’s recipes and ingredient costs should not be treated as current options.

What to do if you can’t find elixirs
- Check your realm. If the character is Seasonal, the reported removal explains why elixir recipes and consumables are missing.
- Don’t rely on older recipe lists. Their costs, ingredients, durations and effects belong to the former system.
- If you play on Eternal, treat the Iron Barbs exception cautiously. Wowhead reports it remains, but the official sources cited here do not establish its precise availability or how it can currently be used.
- Use the Alchemist for current material services. Blizzard’s patch notes document conversions and specify which legacy-material recipes are unavailable to Seasonal characters.
