Diablo 4’s Season 16 PTR turns War Plans from a largely preset activity chain into a progression system you can steer. War Plans Tactics lets you weight the activities and reward categories you want, Marks of Wisdom let you reassign those choices, and the seasonal Tyrael’s Boons tree adds temporary paths for loot, gold, materials and crafting. The systems are planned for both Seasonal and Eternal play where stated, while Tyrael’s Boons is available to every Seasonal player without requiring the Lord of Hatred expansion. Blizzard’s 3.3.0 PTR runs from October 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PDT to November 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PST; the announcement does not give a live Season 16 launch date.
What is changing with War Plans in Diablo 4 Season 16?
The upgrade adds three layers of control: War Plans Tactics for weighting activities and rewards, Marks of Wisdom for changing those allocations, and Tyrael’s Boons for a season-specific set of priorities. Together, they let you build War Plans around the content your character actually needs instead of accepting the same activity mix every time.

War Plans Tactics
Completing War Plans activities awards points for two kinds of nodes. Activity nodes increase the chance that a particular activity appears in your chain, while reward nodes increase the chance of receiving a chosen reward category.
- Each individual activity node accepts up to 3 points.
- Each individual reward node also accepts up to 3 points.
- Available activity choices include Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, the Undercity, Lair Bosses, Infernal Hordes and the Pit.
- Reward categories include armor, weapons, jewelry, Obducite, salvage, gems, gold, activity keys, Horadric Cube materials and Talisman items.
Putting at least one point into Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons unlocks a further preference: you can increase the chance of Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons. Blizzard describes War Plans Tactics as a meta-progression system intended for both Seasonal and Eternal content.

How the underlying War Plans chain works
War Plans already links selected endgame activities into a sequence. The system can generate a needed Sigil, teleport you to the next activity, level the Command Table and award a War Chest after the selected chain is finished. Activity trees provide additional points for customization; Tactics adds a broader layer that affects what appears and what pays out.
How do I respec War Plans choices?
Completed War Plans award Marks of Wisdom. These replace gold when you change nodes in War Plans Tactics or in an individual Activity tree, so changing direction is a planned resource decision rather than a direct gold fee.

How does Tyrael’s Boons work?
Tyrael’s Boons is a separate, Season-themed War Plans tree. It is open to all Seasonal players, and Blizzard explicitly says that owning Lord of Hatred is not required. The tree offers 132 points in total; you can select up to four of six available choices across four paths.

What does Greater Temper cost?
Once the recipe is unlocked, Greater Temper upgrades a Tempered Affix to a Greater Affix for 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite. On the PTR, unassigning a Tyrael’s Boons point costs 5,000,000 gold per point, so the tree rewards committing to a plan rather than constantly testing every branch.
Which Tyrael’s Boons path should I choose?
There is no universal best route: choose the path that removes your current bottleneck.

- Need gold, experience or broad farming returns: start with Scent of Gold.
- Need tempering and crafting supplies: prioritize Trash for Treasure, especially if Obducite or Scrolls of Restoration are limiting upgrades.
- Want gamble-oriented gear targeting: Curious Addition improves the Purveyor’s possible outcomes.
- Have Forgotten Souls and prefer cache-based targeting: Merchant of Mystery offers the most direct route.
You can combine selections across four paths, but the four-of-six limit means you should compare the activity you run most, the reward category you lack and the cost of changing your mind before assigning points.
Do Tyrael’s Boons replace Seasonal Blessings?
No. Blizzard says Seasonal Blessings remain a static system with the same five Blessings each season. Tyrael’s Boons operates alongside them as the configurable War Plans tree, so Seasonal characters use both systems rather than choosing one.
What other Season 16 systems are in the PTR?
Horadric Items and Talisman sets
Horadric Items are Legendary items with affixes that interact directly with Talisman set bonuses. Jewelry can increase the set-bonus count for a specified Talisman set, potentially enabling a two-piece bonus while only one charm is equipped. Armor and weapons can add skill ranks, damage or defensive effects when a qualifying set bonus is active.

The Fractured Reaper encounter
Season 16 also introduces the Fractured Reaper as a partner to the Corrupted Reaper. Blizzard presents them as a combined dual-boss lair encounter, not two unrelated bosses encountered separately.

The official announcement reviewed for this update gives only the PTR window: October 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PDT through November 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PST. It does not state the live Season 16 launch date, so any later date should be treated as unconfirmed until Blizzard publishes it.

Do War Plans activities still teleport me between objectives?
Yes. The existing War Plans flow can generate a needed Sigil and teleport you to the next selected activity. It also levels the Command Table and awards a War Chest after the chain is complete.
